  1. Very underrated IMOP. :-)
  2. A Johnny Harris production too. Johnny was born in Scotland and made his name producing and arranging albums for the likes of Tom Jones, Englebert , Lulu and Jackie Trent in the 1960's , moving on to bigger things in the states during the early 1970's. The move led to a lot of TV work and it's interesting to note that there's reference to this on here. Growing up in the 60's I don't mind a decent pop tune and you'll have to admit Chris, that Johnny Harris is hardly in the same league, Soul wise as Rick Hall, though even he succombed to the lure of producing rock bands. I can listen to Ian Levine's mixes without prejudice cos I never went to the Mecca or any of his gig. Although at times seeming obsessed with rarity, he does play some nice tunes but also the odd duffer. Thanks for sharing. nice northern soul tunes,
  3. Here's one I heard on a Levine Mixcloud, so I decided to dig it out. Bill Medley What Have You Got To Lose MGM. Sounds like a cross between Cajun Heart and Mike Post. Wack it up to get that brass sounding sweet, a Rick Hall production :
  4. Top draw cheap Northern Soul, rarity doesn't come into it: Sandy Wynns Love belongs to everyone Champion
  5. Been taking an interest in UK Jay Boy releases of late. Found this one interesting as I can't see any reference to a US release. As I understand it was recorded in UK, possibly the same group who were also touring UK clubs under various group banners during the late 60's. I believe that it's one of the rarer releases on the label. Quite a few threads on here about Jay Boy, here's one if anyone's interested: The Invitations Picking Up Jay Boy records:
  6. I don't like marmite, but love this. Sunshine pop it may be, but it's got the groove. Nice one.
  7. Currently put this one on Ebay, having a limited budget , I need to turn over a few tunes to refresh the collection. Some people rate it anyway. Friends No You - No Me ! UP records:
  8. Bit Psych , nevertheless a cracking tune in my book, love the hammond organ break. Much underrated.
  9. Sounding very darkly Detroit to my ears, flip the effervescent Try A lttle Harder for the Fi-Dels Bob Refl composition You Never Do Right (My Baby), Keymen/Jay Boy UK. I didn't realise that some of these Jay Boy's have become quite expensive - after 40 years I still find it hard to take the label seriously, though all credit to President for knocking the tunes out.

  11. That's what I thought too originally and granted it's not a club tune, however probably the recent price tag has made me listen to it with more enthusiastic ears than normal and let it plant it's seed. There again I now have a soft spot for Neil Young, the Eagles and Janis Joplin, which I wouldn't have given the time of day as a lad. Changing the subject I've just been playing the excellent recent Kent CD; "Mainstream Modern Soul" , when this came on as I was walloping a wall and had to check out what was playing, having forgotten how good it is. Being a staple of every sales box I doubt if fetches more than a fiver, the record I'm talking about is The Dramatics No Rebate On Love, such a great tune, sounding really fresh this morning.
  12. Come on chaps, give it a listen.....Thanks
