  1. Nice one Martyn, thanks for posting. Despite her rather fragile vocals, I always loved her "I'm so in Love" DJM LP, which this cracking track is also on. I never realised though, until you posted this that the DJM album was a re-issue or more accurately a re-compilation of Happy & In Love which I now find out was released 4 years earlier on MOJO (Fontana US). Dunno how I missed it at the time, I could have had 4 more years of listening pleasure. "I've Just Gotta Tell Somebody" B/W I'm so in Love" to was released on a label called "Shotgun", as 45 a few years ago. Whether this was a boot or not , I don't know but it looks legit. Anyway for the un-initiated:
  2. Another unusual one from Discogs. Dunno if it's a genuine acetate or a mail order type thing, however I'll be amazed if it's worth the asking price. Rusty Draper is a US old school country artist. Bud Harper, Rusty Draper ‎– Mr Soul / Love Don't Grow On Trees Label : The Music Centre, Wembley ‎ Format: Acetate, 7", 45 RPM £4,427.64 - why 64p ?? postage ? see here: https://www.discogs.com/Bud-Harper-Rusty-Draper-Mr-Soul-Love-Dont-Grow-On-Trees/release/9572391
  3. Is this too disco ? It's very anthemic any road and may have been played at the Mecca, Morecambe or similar. Hudson County - Heaven's Here On Earth- RCA
  4. Bobby Garrett, what ? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ORIGINAL-NORTHERN-SOUL-WIGAN-CASINO-R-B-7-RECORD-MY-LITTLE-GIRL-BOBBY-GARRETT-/292049462833?hash=item43ff812631:g:tpEAAOSwax5Y17gq
  5. Another one for the soul cops. A very off the wall UK only production, seldom comes up for sale, which some might say is a good thing. Robert Henley Hensley UK Polydor, Baby you're gonna to see me cry.
  6. Very underrated. Can't understand myself, why this hasn't ever been included in any of the Stax/Volt , Kent crossover CD compilations. Excellent choice.
  7. That's what sold me on it Martyn. I note that the new Coalminers' Groovadelic compilation LP , contains a few tracks highlighting that West Coast Garage "sound". In case anyone's interested see here.
  8. R Dean Taylor There's A Ghost .. I wonder who was actually responsible for first playing it out? Like you Dave , my first memory is buying it on one of those strange MFP Motown LP's including the Contours and Isley's. I do recall it being played to a packed dance floor at Wigan and despite it's chart success and hammering, I still think its a great Motown production. Also worth a listen on those cheap MFP LP's is Kiki Dee's cracking version of "I'll Try Something New".
  9. IMOP underrated Jackie Wilson (I can feel those vibrations)This Love Is Real

  12. Not very often we stray into Discogs territory, but , and this used to be a Anglo Soul Pack record, $669.00 + shipping ? Better let me down easy! https://www.discogs.com/sell/item/449732491

  15. There was a boot of Never For Me sold for £75 on here earlier today. No mention of it's status. I recently pointed out to an ebayer that the Elgin's that they were selling was actually not a "first UK press" but infact the second re-issue (i.e.third press) without any response. Bottom line is we continue to laugh, but some folks obviously have the cash to throw at these items. Yesterday I bid reasonable offers on several low grade originals only to be outbid in the last few minutes by several tens of pounds on the items by numerous bids.. The world of soul has gone completely mad no doubt about it :-) I'm just glad I held on to the few rarities that still adorn my record box over the years Wish that folks wouldn't touch all those modern boots of boots though.

  18. As you say weirdly also released on a UK Track 45. Long gone now I'm afraid, but I once owned a copy that I picked up from Cadman's record exchange in Hanley Bus Station. You could swap 10 old records for a chart tune. What I found there, ah those were 't days. Have to make do with the BackTrack compilation LP now.
  19. There's a copy of the Indian Sateside Craig Douglas on Discogs for £33 which seems about the going rate for the Pye too. New to me, I suppose it has it's charm like the Robert Henry Hensley on Polydor. Best wishes with your health issues. Mick
  20. Well here's one that often slips the radar as being played at The Torch and I think The Cat's. Maybe that reputation is deserved, however what it lacks in quality I reckon it makes up with energy. I'm guessing that the Black Verve issue which I've owned through thick and thin for 45 years (can you believe it? no wonder we're all falling apart) must be rarer than the yellow demo, cos there's lots of the latter on popsike. Anyway, King Davis House Rockers "Baby you satisfy me" Verve (Black) b/w we all make mistakes sometimes (also worth a listen)
