  1. Looking at these pictures I do wonder where my life has gone.
  2. A record that always gets me out on the dance floor. Don't hear it much now though.
  3. I've been to the Cleethorpes weekender for several years now, sorry that there weren't so many attending in 2018, perhaps late publicity. This year's will be the first without Ady being in control, interested to see what it's like, will there be changes? Cleethorpes is as much a social event as a musical one I think. Did Blackpool Soul Festival last year after Cleethorpes, really enjoyed it, apart from the journey. Going again this year and must get into the Modern rooms too. But the Northern room seemed a bit predictable when I popped in there a couple of times. Rare room was superb. Was good to meet friends I'd not seen for ages. Haven't been to Bridlington for ages, simply due to clashes with nights I like, plus getting accommodation has been difficult. Loved the rare and underplayed room in particular, especially when it was ordinary soul lovers playing their favourites. Sometimes "big" DJs simply play their current biggies. The main room dance floor is very good but again a bit predictable. I loved Prestatyn but gave up a while ago, again rare room good but the rest was disappointing. When I first attended you had a really wide selection of NS played in the big room the last few times it was the same old stuff. It's a long way to go for a small amount of music. I've done most of the MonuMental weekenders in Clacton but not so sure this year. I wish I'd attended the Lifeline weekend a few years ago, got the DVD and it would have been just what I like. Something on those lines would be nice but I'm probably in a minority. Are there any weekenders that specialise in R&B? Not for me but my friend loves it. I should look a bit further at weekends available but don't want a whole weekend of top 500 oldies, a few are okay but not ad nauseum. Again I'm sure I'm in a minority.
  4. Just looked on YouTube, do you mean We Can Make It We Can? It shows a British Tamla Motown record and a comment underneath says it's the flip of Come Round Here I'm The One You Need. I liked Mr Misery.
  5. Sorry to read of Clydie's passing, a fine singer. I love Missin' My Baby, Soft And Gentle Ways, and Thrill Is Gone, and will listen to the others that have been posted here. Unfortunately losing our singers is something we've got to expect as they reach older age. RIP Clydie King
  6. Not easy to follow the above but Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to the Soul Source team and all members.
  7. Another fine singer leaves us. She covered a wide range of styles. I've always liked her version of Where Does That Leave Me. RIP Nancy.
  8. Very sorry to hear about Peter Young's death. I used to enjoy his radio programmes, he played a wide variety of soul music. I saw him DJ a couple of times, he was a very nice guy to speak to. He'll be missed. RIP PY.
  9. I forgot to add that I didn't realise there was a connection with Teddy Randazzo. He composed some lovely songs, is there a complete list of the songs and artistes who recorded them?
  10. As Rictic66 said great research. Most interesting to hear different versions of this song which I've always liked. I got Brook's version years ago on an LP. Interesting in the advert that it's listed as the topside. it was the flip that gave him his first big hit if my memory is correct. Almost a different song by Barbara and Brenda. I agree it would have been a great song for Elvis Presley, right in the style of Don't Be Cruel, All Shook Up, etc. Please do more of these posts of different versions of songs, most interesting.
  11. I heard this at the Manchester Soul Festival at the end of August, I'd forgotten how much I like it. Must try and find it on a 7 inch single.
  12. Were True Image and Larry Houston posted as examples of disco records? Certainly wouldn't call them disco records myself, more fairly conventional 70s Modern Soul. Disco seems to be a pejorative term used to describe anything recorded after the end of the 60s, which is just silly in my opinion. There are some records played now that could be called disco I guess but they fit in very well at an allnighter that isn't strictly oldies. For the absolute Northern purists the problem is that there don't seem to be any "new" traditional Northern records being discovered, except the odd acetate. No one can blame a DJ for wanting to play something a bit different as long as its soulful and danceable, if it works fine, if not they won't play it again. Many records have to be heard more than once to make an impression or at least to me anyway. All of us have our own take on the music, often it depends on your mood, sometimes an evening of oldies can be enjoyable but other times they can bore you. I just think we're lucky we've got such a choice to listen to and so many nights to attend around the country.
  13. Thanks Simon, just downloaded one of these. I used to have an extension to the Chrome toolbar on my laptop but can't seem to find it when I google from the PC I'm currently using.
  14. Is there a way to download these podcasts Chalky? I'd like to listen to them at my leisure.

  16. Don't think I've heard the Clara Hardy track before, but will request Butch to play it.
  17. A little bit goes a long way in my opinion. A bit like R&B. Usually the same ones each time. The problem comes when a DJ decides to play half a dozen following each other.
  18. I'll put that in the diary. Hope I see you before then though, Cleethorpes?
  19. That's a really nice set Steve, quite a few I don't recognise, will see if I can check them out. Wish I'd been there to hear these.
  20. I've only been there once, think it was towards the end of 2008. It was like being back in the mid 60s hearing records I hadn't heard out since those days, e.g Dust My Broom by Elmore James, etc. Sorry it's closing, hope you find another suitable venue.
  21. I dislike remixes, they never better the original. Usually they make the song go on too long and I'm puzzled why they get played. I heard a remix of Pyramid recently. Why would anyone want to do that?
  22. Thanks Robb.
  23. I'm a bit confused. Is this Jimmy Jones the same guy as the one who recorded Handy Man and Good Timin'?
  24. Thanks to everyone who answered my query. Got a copy at a very reasonable prive from a friend to whom I'm most grateful as I want it for a birthday present for someone.
  25. She appeared at the Saville Theatre in London in the series of Sunday evening concerts put on by Brian Epstein who had leased the theatre in 1965, initially to put on plays. I was a regular visitor to the Sunday concerts and remember Felice. If my memory is correct she sang three songs, think they included I Feel Love Coming On, It May Be Winter Outside and I'm Under The Influence Of Love, but I may be wrong, don't hold me to it. It must have been in 1967. At the time I thought she was okay but to me heavily influenced by Diana Ross. Just my opinion of course.
