I always ask this, but what is the evidence this was recorded at Magic City Studios in Detroit? A reference to this goes way back, and was included in Rod Dearlove's - A Collector's Guide to Detroit. I often hear this claim, but have never found the source or any evidence to show it was actually recorded at Magic City. The label credits don't suggest the Magic City connection as far as I know. They do make a reference to "Glass City" though. Cheers Richard

Nice Richard -
I was chatting to a fellow soulie last night and found myself saying how important local radio was to me in by formative years, as a new soul fan in my late teens. We were chatting and I recalled the weekly guest spot that soul scene legend Dave Evison used to do on Radio Derby on the Terry Christian show - remember him! (Terry not Dave ). Well, I was not even really in the Radio Derby area - so used to have nightmares just trying to tune in on a dodgy FM radio with the signal swooshing in and out - but it was worth it! Some of the great songs I first heard on Dave's spot remain among my top favourite sounds of all time - Fantastics - Me & You (Sound Stage 7), Howard Tate - Baby I Love You (Verve), Lou Courtney - Trying To Find My Woman (Buddah), Marvin L. Sims - Get Off My Back (Revue), Mighty Lovers - The Mighty Lover (Boo-Ga-Loo), Linda Jones & Whatnauts - I'm So Glad I Found You (Stang) - wow! It struck me that there has been a close and special association over the years, especially in the earlier pre-internet days, between rare soul and local radio stations. Wondered if anyone else had a similar affection to me for those old FM shows Cheers Richard

Last orders please Cheers Richard SOLD. THANK YOU. WINNING BID £400. -
Don't think there's a way to tell from Pat's auctions, or Tim's for that matter. Or is there? Richard

I'm always open to receiving constructive feedback on any of my sales on here by means of PM by the way - price or any other aspect. Cheers Richard

The green ones you normally see are mid green label presssed on vinyl - bootlegs The original issue is on styrene with a lighter green stuck on label like the Prophets on Stephanye. Have the rare green styrene issue but would like a true minter so let me know if you find one Pete. There are one or two threads on here about this. Cheers Richard

John Manship Auction Results 13-11-2013
Premium Stuff replied to JOE TORQUAY's topic in Look At Your Box
But John's auction works like eBay in that it bids up automatically in increments - so there must have been at least two people in the Amazon Forest etc. to achieve that price. Cheers Richard -
That would be much more interesting. One example of such a claim you see quite often is Roy Handy - Baby That's A Groove Rare White Demo - but the white demo is the commonly found format, whereas the original styrene green-labelled issue is pretty much shit rare Cheers Richard

That's basically what I said, without being quite as direct about it.

People selling records are all very different in what they know and what they want out of it. Some people don't know the price of every record, or the current market value of certain records. As an example, other people aren't necessarily great at judging or describing condition - which is very subjective anyway, even with a detailed guide - and some folk don't want to, or don't have the time to provide much information to potential buyers. Turning over money is obviously very important to certain people, especially those where record sales are part of their regular income. Some other folk are very happy to sit on a record until the right person comes along willing to pay the asking price. It strikes me that it is very much like any other collector-based market (e.g. antiques) with a real mixture of different people right from from professional dealers, to those who are just selling as part of a hobby - maybe to trade up or finance a new purchase. This means there is not really a right or wrong way to go about selling records - especially in pricing them - because different people have different objectives. I have hardly ever sold any records, going right back from when I started collecting as a teenager, and I have only very recently started dipping my toe in the water in selling. Because this is unfamiliar territory for me personally, my current take on things is to try and test things out a bit, provide as much information as I can in the time available, and be as honest as I can (e.g. with condition). Just don't think there are any hard and fast rules on this. Cheers Richard

It is a fabulous, fabulous record. I'm not surprised it being auctioned because it's a truly class record - one off sound, as someone said above. Imagine it was one of your top wants and you just had to have it. The reason it is being auctioned must surely be because the current owner saw it as fetching a decent price at auction, and John will have done too. His auctions are always a real mix, not just big ticket items, but a collection of interesting items - it's not all about price. Good luck to the seller and to JM I say. It's not my record by the way - although if it was it would be nice seeing the auction price going up and up. Cheers Richard

Hi all Can anyone please tell me what the rough cost is to send a 45 record to Australia from the UK. This will be in a US-style mailer with the proper amount of fill. Would normally go in the UK as a large letter (if lucky and it slips through the slot). Guessing it would need to be some kind of airmail - tracked or normal? Thanks for any advice Richard

Today We Go Tag - Posting Members Please Read
Premium Stuff replied to Mike's topic in Look At Your Box
Hi Mike When I have been using only three tags I get a warning saying I can't use more than three tags. Won't let me post. Happened a couple of times. I then delete one tag, so there are only two tags, and then it will allow me to post. Maybe I'm doing something wrong? Cheers Richard -
That Hollidays on Groove City is one hell of a record. Double-sider. Rare too. Good price in it. Cheers Richard
