Brilliant record. Cheers Richard

Although I have collected rare and Northern since I was a teenager I have never collected Motown. Don't get me wrong, there are some decent records on those Motown labels. If I was thinking of starting to collect US Motown - don't know why Supposing I decided to, what are the top tips for a fledgeling US Motown collector please? Cheers Richard

I recall reading in the Manship bootleg guide of a particular bootleg which had a bb hole. It was doubly unusual because it was a demo, which would not normally have these holes. Have just checked and it's a bootleg of Darrell Banks - Angel Baby on Atco. Apparently this bootleg came with a bb hole and Atco company sleeve. Anyone post a scan please? Cheers Richard

Ray Agee - I'm Losing Again/ Hard Loving Woman On Cd?
Premium Stuff replied to Stompingsevens's topic in All About the SOUL
I used to hate it and dismiss it as R&B. One day I listened to it and my ears opened. Great band, great drums, great vocals, great tempo, great brass. It actually starts R&B and gets more Northern as it goes along. I can see why it's a big record and commands a big ticket price. Cheers Richard -

VELVET SATINS - NOTHING CAN COMPARE TO YOU / UP TO THE ROOFTOP (GENERAL AMERICAN) DEMO Hi everyone Northern Soul anthem on a lovely 'red swirl' demo copy. Genuine original with a 'Bell Sound' stamped matrix. Price is £300 please. Beautiful condition copy. Most would grade M- without hesitation. I am grading this honestly and conservatively as Excellent condition (lightest of surface marks from storage and a tiny knock mark in the very outer part of the disc edge that does not affect play in any way - have no doubt most would not even mention these aspects). Label scan and MP3 soundfile from actual record below. Payment by PayPal as gift (family & friends), cheque or cash please. Postage is £2.50 UK Recorded Delivery or £7.00 UK Special Delivery. Overseas at cost. No quibble money back guarantee if not happy. Please just PM me if interested. Cheers Richard Click on picture to see larger image Nothing Can Compare To You.mp3

Would This Be Classed As An "inspired" Djing?
Premium Stuff replied to Northernjordan's topic in All About the SOUL
That is an outstanding record Ted. I remember when I first ever heard it, I didn't believe it was Motown because by comparison to so many of their hits it sounded raw and like a proper black sound. It's proper Northern too. Another one that I think could have a similar effect is this baby - Jamo Thomas - I Spy (For The FBI) Cheers Richard https://youtu.be/VN7QL0ydGbw -
Thanks for all the advice guys. I didn't go as far as the full 'scalpel' treatment. However, I did have a close look at the grooves with a good quality high magnification hand lens. Based on that I went for the 'needle' treatment. Record mow plays through fine, do I can keep it. Wonders if there was any kind of 'chemical' solution for some such problems that would dissolve the matter causing the skip - but maybe that is under a record cleaning thread? Thanks again Richard

Is that Black Lace the original Agadoo or a cover up mate? Great playlist. Jimmy Robins - very nice on Impression Cheers Richard

John Manship Auction Results 18-12-2013

Yes Ted, when there is only one person left - whether before 6pm or after 6pm (during the virtual live auction) the auction finishes. Just like on Bargain Hunt Cheers Richard -
John Manship Auction Results 18-12-2013
Premium Stuff replied to JOE TORQUAY's topic in Look At Your Box
To be honest, I think the way the auction works is fairly clear and transparent, especially if you watch it happening live. It's all explained on John's site too. What happens at 6pm is that the bids close on all items if there is only one person still in, with no competing bidder. So the bid standing at 6pm, if there is no competition, is the last and winning bid and all such items close. All very clear. I think the bit not everybody gets, is that when there is more than one bidder still in at the end, the auction then becomes a virtual auction-room on-line. If somebody bids on an item in the last two minutes running up to 6pm, the system then knows there is more than one person bidding and opens an extra two-minute window for competing bids to be placed. The bidders all know this and it gives everyone some time for reflection before placing a higher bid. If the previous high bidder then comes back, or if someone else places a bid, a further two minute window is opened. The bidding goes on between the remaining two or more competing bidders until there is a final winner. Got to say that the virtual live auction on John's website pretty much matches Chalky's description of Sotheby's auctions. Sure, this is not how it happens on eBay, but it is how it happens in auction houses all over the world. What's more, everyone can see what is happening, so it's very transparent. I think the live conclusion is actually a really clever and exciting part of the auctions, especially when there are items up there like the gold Professionals, Sandy Golden and Frank Wilson Cheers Richard -

Lee Moore - Information On The Artist Please
Premium Stuff replied to Premium Stuff's topic in Look At Your Box
Nice one John - thank you Didn't realise the Lee & Leopards connection at all. I have the Diamond Jim, Riley's and Tri-City 45s - but not the other ones. All seem quite obscure - not necessarily expensive though. Looks like Detroit but with a Southern sound. Cheers Richard -
Hi everyone I know very little about Lee Moore apart from some of his brilliant recordings on Detroit and Michigan area labels like Riley's and Tri-City. He did some great stuff and at least a couple of superb deep soul things. But his sound is soooo southern soul - not uptown or Detroit. Was he a southern artist with leased-in material. Or was he a Detroit guy? I know some of the Detroit stuff got cut down south - like some Premium Stuff, Wheelsville, D-Town stuff tracks. I have never really even thought about Lee Moore until tonight, so really grateful for any info please. TIA Richard

That is not good mate. really sorry to hear that. It's not just the records, which in themselves also obviously have sentimental value and associations, but it's the whole thing about who stole from you and who can and can't trust. Not a pleasant situation to be put in. Have you considered finding a way to ask all of your friends if it was them - but in a way that will not offend the innocent? I know that is easy to say and hard to do, but if one of my good friends asked me if I had nicked their records - because there were several potential suspects and they just wanted to narrow it down - there is no way I would be offended or think any worse of them, if I was innocent. Good luck with it mate Cheers Richard

Dean Anderson T. N. T. Show Two ! - ** New 2Nd Show ! **
Premium Stuff replied to Premium Stuff's topic in All About the SOUL
Good man Rob Shame it's going to be a gap now with some uncertainty about whether we will be treated to the show on a Thursday on an ongoing basis. I love this stuff actually coming out of a proper radio! Richard -
Hi everyone Need some tips on curing skips and sticks on a 45 please. Bought a record and it's pretty obscure so I'm keen to keep it. It's pressed on vinyl, not styrene. Played it a few times and it has either skipped, or more normally gets stuck and keep repeating. There are a few marks, most of them just surface scuffs and not really feelable. In the vicinity of the stick/skip there is a scratch about 2mm across the grooves. I can't say if this is the cause or not. I'm maybe thinking it's debris caught in the scratch rather than the scratch itself Cleaned it a couple of times and it hasn't cured it. However, I did manage to get it to play through without fault to record it. But then the next time I played it the record stuck What can I feasibly do to cure this please without wrecking it and so it does not sound when fixed? If anyone has got any tried and tested methods please I would greatly appreciate it. Cheers Richard

Why Would Any Collector Buy A Cracked Record?
Premium Stuff replied to Scal's topic in Look At Your Box
Have never knowingly bought a cracked record - wouldn't either no matter what it was and how well it played ... ... but I've cracked a few in my time that I had bought previously Cheers Richard
