What a pendulum?

I guess clapping must be learnt or transferred by means of some kind of "socialisation" - but clapping definitely fits with our kind of soul music - just like spinning does when dancing. You often see soulies at home playing records, in the radio studio, in the pub listening to a decent soul sound and they can't help themselves and just clap to the right bits in the song. Clapping and spinning are both probably a fairly natural kind of release - maybe due to the need to release the emotion and tension built up through the soulful nature of the music we all love? Not sure we could prove any of the above through laboratory or empirical psychological or sociological experiments but hey ho Richard

I totally agree - John's auctions are always a great mixture of styles and items ranging from undeniable rarities and top class oldies that always command high prices, right though to obscure, very different and barely-known things. While he definitely gets very decent prices most of the time, it obviously isn't price alone that determines whether something is on the auction - but just mixing things up and making sure each week has a range of stuff - including price-wise. No one person has a handle on the "true" value of things as is suggested above. Different people buy and sell in different markets - sometimes very different. Some folk only buy auction pieces from the most long-established dealers. Others chase bargains, regardless of condition. Blah, blah.
