  1. I switched on with Tony Blackburn saying how timeless the Motown sound was ... the the credits rolled!! Cheers Richard
  2. Hi all Can anyone post up a scan of a promo copy of Ed Crook - That's Alright on Tri-Sound please? Either or both of the different label designs please. Cheers Richard
  3. Hi Alan, yes it's the same Westbound label - the Superlatives came out originally on Dynamics in Detroit and got picked up for wider distribution on Westbound. I Don't Know How/Lonely In A Crowd (Dynamics 1016/Westbound 144) Don't Let True Love Die/She's My Wonder Woman (Dynamics 1017/Westbound 154) Cheers Richard
  4. Hi all I have never really looked much at the Westbound label even though it was a very significant label. I have a few things on this one, Magictones, Superlatives, Detroit Emeralds, Emanuel Laskey - Never My Love etc. Amnesty on dumb numpty questions OK ... but what is the set up with some releases coming out on both the multi-coloured and the red issue? I won't embarass myself further ... please enlighten me Cheers Richard
  5. Baz - do you mean you need either an issue or demo of Martha Star to complete the full Thelma run (plus B Kennedy), or that you just need a WDJ? Have you got all the early series? I need a couple of those ones. Some of the Thelma WDJs are quite hard. Still looking for a couple of WDJs to replace issues. Cheers Richard
  6. IMVFHO if you play counterfeit records as a DJ at a genuine rare soul do you should be ashamed of yourself. I have less of a problem with legitimate issues of previously unreleased stuff. One of the things that grips me about the Northern and rare soul scene is the exclusivity and rarity - the authenticity. It's all about the genuine article. A DJ playing counterfeits is NOT the genuine article - you are only cheating yourself as the old saying goes. Nothing wrong with a bit of elitism if it is in a positive spirit - it's good to aspire to be different, and even better than the norm IMO. Counterfeits have their place in no nonsense local dos, but not at proper rare soul venues. Cheers Richard
  7. Not seen one in the flesh, but saw one for sale on a list a few years ago - circa 2004. Can't remember who had it though. I was out of work at the time for a few months and so could not buy it - it was only £400 I think I got my issue when I visited Mr Manship at his shop one school day in Melton Mowbray. Picked up Martha's Love Is The Only Solution for £9.00 I think and a Eula Cooper on Super Sound for a bit less I bought the Thelma 45 blind though because I already knew and loved No Part Time Love For Me. I'm Lonely is THE side though. Cheers Richard
  8. Yes, definitive originals There was a point during the last big recession when you couldn't give rarities away - and reputedly John had piles of the slower stuff like Steve Mancha DMBC on Wheelsville. I got some great stuff from Soul Bowl and used to love the big back catalogue type lists, as well as the weekly ones. I got some great stuff for £2.50 or £3.00. There was stuff at that price I got like Connie Clark - My Sugar Baby(Joker), Tobi Lark - Challenge My Love (Topper), Carol Anderson - Taking My Mind Off Love (Whip), Tate - Love Shop (Cloverstreet). Used to have to think hard about paying £5.00 or £10.00 in those days for a 45 and the kind of rarer stuff like the ones listed above was basically the same price as stuff like, for instance, Golden World promos like Holidays and Rose Batiste etc. If we only knew then what we know now eh? Soul Bowl soul packs had some truly great stuff in and one that sticks in my mind that I got is Darrow Fletcher - What Have I Got Now on Jacklyn. Looking at those old lists and thinking what could have been ain't good for your mind! Cheers Richard
  9. I agree and think it's all about original vinyl - not pressings. For venue-goers my suggestion is if you don't like a policy on playing pressings then either don't go that venue or don't dance to the DJ playing them. Cheers Richard
  10. Here's the link in case it wasn't obvious (probably was ): https://www.popsike.com Cheers Richard
  11. I love 'em both - which is why I have 'em both on Andrea's truly beautiful record C'mon though Gasher - just gotta have that cartoon lion on Spyder Turner though, no? Cheers Richard
  12. Black issue is harder and more collectable on this one IMO - but the yellow promo looks nicer Cheers Richard
  13. Anyone got the full story on Connie Clark - My Sugar Baby (Joker) please? In particular, anyone know where this was recorded, session dates, details etc.? Cheers Richard
  14. Hi all Anyone give me a value on Bileo - You Can Win on MTU/Watts City please? (orange label original and probably in M- or EX condition when I find it ) Cheers Richard
  15. This is Tina Cheers Richard
  16. Lovely! Richard
  17. I have this on a WDJ and I agree they are quite tough. Reckon it should probably be higher than the book price of 50 squid. Think the WDJ has been looked down on a bit in the past because it doesn't have the instrumental on it - but times change Cheers Richard
  18. Deon Jackson - I Can't Go On (Carla) This is his best! There is a guitar chord at the start that is as definitive as the one at the beginnig of the Beatles' 'Help'. Cheers Richard
  19. Some releases are known to have varying degrees of water staining or damage on the labels e.g. a few of the Mary Jane 45s. The vinyl is the main thing. Be honest about label damage and provide a scan/pic. Don't use the term "slight" label damage - one man's slight is another man's massive With rare stuff, or where it is the norm that many copies are water stained/damaged, this is much more acceptable. Water damaged copy or no copy ever - well no contest - take the water! Hope this helps Richard
  20. The ones that stick in my mind ... Nelson Sanders - Mojo Man (Rambler) Capitols - I Got To Handle It (Karen) WDJ ... pure class!!! Beth Bynum - I'll Set You Free (Starmaker) Cheers Richard
  21. Wouldn't mind one of those!! ... THE FABULOUS PEPS - WITH THESE EYES - D-TOWN
  22. What would a fair price be on one of these TamTown 45s please anyone? I have one somewhere, which I bought as new, but if I remember correctly the label printing was a bit dodgy (patchy print) in places Cheers Richard
  23. Gwen Owens on Velgo???
  24. We just need a carry forward page, or one at the top of the post that is a regularly updated list. Happened OK with sales and with the Detroit, Chigaco etc. name all the labels threads. Just need someone to be official editor Then there will be one list with all the 'no's taken out and all new suggestions added etc. Cheers Richard
