  1. Is that Peter Sutcliffe??? - just checking The Mum of my mate Simon from years ago from Bradford was a teacher - so was Sonia Sutcliffe. Sonia and Peter came round for dinner a few times and did the washing up in the kitchen - cleaning all the big utensils like kitchen knives My mate Simon's other claim to fame was that he once (regrettably) opened a door for Enoch Powell. Cheers Richard
  2. Not too difficult to get with the For Demonstration Use Only Not For Sale sticker - but much harder as a genuine issue copy without the sticker - am I right? Cheers Richard
  3. This is my only post for ages now as I can't work the site - and so this post is -ve Please sort this site - I am so fed up - no basic funtionality for days now - I truly respect the efforts you mods put in - but this is truly daft. Sorry Richard

  5. BACK STREET or YOU'RE MY MELLOW Richard
  6. Haven't read all the previous but for me it has to be: Contours - First I Look At The Purse Barrett Strong - Money Temptations - Ain't Too Proud To Beg Cheers Richard
  7. Jack Montgomery - My Dear Beloved b/w Do You Believe It - Scepter - £220 - piss poor price or bargain depending on outlook The Limitations - I'm Lonely, I'm Troubled b/w My Baby - Bacone - £223 - how does this rate to the norm please? Think I have one - a Stafford cheapie? Cheers Richard
  8. The Capitols - I Got To Handle It is one of the first few Northern records I bought and also one that got me into collecting Detroit. Awesome sound Anyone post up a soundfile of the Intentions please for comparison? Cheers Richard
  9. Here are a couple of scans showing different label details - I will leave it up to you guys, like a spot the difference Cheers Richard
  10. OK - I just checked and my My Dear Beloved issue does have a drill hole and is in a company bag. But I have a scan of one that doesn't, like the one posted above. Cheers Richard
  11. Guys, guys - I just want to kill myself after reading this thread I have this one twice as Dearly Beloved on a white promo and as My Dear Beloved on a lovely issue. I'm pretty sure my MDB issue doesn't have a cut out hole, but I will check. I have some scans at home on the laptop which show different variations in label design, at least on the promos, in relation to print, catalogue number format etc I think. I will check this out when I'm at home and report back. As for which side is best - I love Do You Believe It as it's a fairly unusual song and delivery by Jack IMFVHO. I can entirely understand why someone would auction the My Dear Beloved issue because it is a legend of a record and this is the rarest and most desirable format - I don't think it's about rarity really, it's about how much someone wants it and is prepared to pay - if the answer is potentially lots to both, why not auction it. Leaves the chepaer copies for the sane among us! B) Cheers Richard
  12. This came out twice - yellow label first local Detroit release on Soulhawk 1009 and then re-released on a grey label SH-10 distributed nationally by Atlantic. Both releases are also available on white promo copies as well as the issues. Cheers Richard
  13. I sold my US original a few (maybe 4 or 5) years ago - M- or maybe Ex white promo - £350 I think I got for it then. Think I still have a UK copy somewhere here - what does that go for please? Cheers Richard
  14. Have to say I think that's a pretty cool reason! Cheers Richard
  15. Last big one started off with: Joe Matthews - She's My Beauty Queen (Thelma) Ended up with: Buddy Smith - When You Lose The One You Love (Brute) Rita & Tiaras - Gone With The Wind [is My Love] (Dore) Eddie Parker - I'm Gone (Awake) Cest la vie! Cheers Richard
  16. Nice one - some absolutely stunning sounds in there guys! Remember - one only - it's your only desert island disc . Not easy to pick, but it's worth it! Keep 'em coming - it's great stuff Cheers Richard
  17. Good man Mike - nice 1 Cheers Richard
  18. Hi Lee Check for previous threads on here as I reckon this variant is covered. I think you are referring to the copy in the attached scan which I had on my laptop. I saw this on eBay a couple of years back. It went for a fairly tidy sum (over £100 if I remember correctly). I think the delta number is an early one which suggests possibly not a boot. If I recall from a previous thread on here, someone else had this copy and had asked John Manship about it. Based on the early delta number etc. I think it was considered likely to be an original. From the scan it has the look of a boot. Apologies if I have any of the above wrong, and to open up this can of worms again. Get a white one Check the archives Cheers Richard
  19. No mate you can't - it's ONE record only In starting the thread I had to decide between Eddie Parker I'm Gone and Jackey Beavers knowing someone would pick Eddie P when I went for Jackey B. The whole point is it's one record and one record only - the clue is in the title Tough ain't it - but be strong - desert island disc singular Cheers Richard
  20. Hi all Ortheia Barnes - Watch Out (unissued) Great version of the Holidays on Golden World. I'm looking for definitive info please. History, format, recording/session details etc. etc. Acetate only? Scans? Who has it etc. Is the genuine title Watch Out or Watch Out Boy? That kind of thing... Any info much appreciated thanks Cheers Richard
  21. OK - I'm bored of these "I can't pick a top ten" comments - blah, blah, blah Please just choose your all time ever (and forever) top 1 (that's ONE) record. No evasion, obfuscation, procrastination, or indecisiveness please. ONE TOP RECORD EACH AND THAT'S IT - ONE VISIT ONLY PLEASE, SO GIVE IT YOUR BEST SHOT! OK mine is: Jackey Beavers - Love That Never Grows Old (Revilot) Cheers Richard
  22. Try and keep up mate
  23. That is the exact point here. Previously small staggered ARCHER stamped copies were widely considered to be legit and consequently were bought and sold freely as such. Therefore, someone who bought a small ARCHER stamped copy as an original will sell it as an original unless they have access to this up-to-date information. Can't really blame them for that. If in a dispute situation over this, I think tact and understanding, alongside providing the authoritative up-to-date information, will be big factors in resolving things. Cheers Richard
  24. John - there was one went through eBay on 15 April. I contacted the seller and they said it didn't have the Nashville Matrix stamp. Here's a pic - Mike Terry credit. It got 16 bids and went for £104. It was clearly stated as a re-issue. Seller valleyofsouls Cheers Richard
  25. That rawness, roughness, 'off key and all over the place' is exactly what makes it the 'northern soul' legend that it is - the rough and ready approach is key to it. It ain't Mary Wells on Motown, that's for sure Think of the Salvadors, Del Larks etc. - it's the same kind of thing. This superb roughness and lack of polish is the same in many genres - think of the Stooges, Howling Wolf, Velvet Underground. The hard edges of this track are the very essence of it Cheers Richard
