  1. Paul, you've lost the plot mate. Your venom and bile on this thread is unbelievable. The film is a fictional drama, not a documentary. I'm nothing to do with the film, but will watch it out of interest in case it's any good. Ian Levine's nothing to do with the film, so I don't know why you keep trying to goad him as well as others on this thread. If the film's crap and inaccurate then so be it, but let's give it a chance and not forget it is a fictional drama and not a documentary or reconstruction of an historical event. If people have got involved (like Paul and Paul) then good luck to them. They're good lads who are well into the music, end of. If the production team treated the extras poorly then that's obviously pish poor. You just come across as deeply mean spirited and spiteful. Stop goading people. If you think it's going to be a pile of trash, don't go and watch it. I also don't know why you keep goading the production team as if they should be on here every day to rebut your constant snipes and insults. If others on here had written some of the personal insults you've dished out today they'd have been chucked off the site by now. All a bit sad and unnecessary in my book. Rich
  2. Here you go Steve - here's a link >LINK< to it!! Wasn't my bag so didn't attend, but didn't hear afterwards..... Hope you're good matey and see you soon, Rich
  3. I take it you're being ironic with the "pop" remark given your avatar is Bonnie Herman? Nice girly tune, but clearly out and out pop (indeed she later went on to record with the group Singers Unlimited - all easy listening, pop and jazz). Think Duffy's singing has more "soul" in it than Bonnie's effort. Given Bonnie is clearly blue eyed, I do wonder whether the people on here slagging Duffy would equally have dismissed Bonnie as "pop drivel" if they'd been around when she released Hush Don't Cry. Just a thought. Here's a LINK to an article on Singers Unlimited and a pic of Bonnie Herman (and the group). Apparently they were originally formed to record tunes for commercials! Rich
  4. Great times!! I actually chose to go to uni at Keele ('90 - '93), having been to the nighters previously! It was great; I had a flat on campus so when the nighters were on everyone used to pile back to mine. It was carnage!! There are 2 pubs opposite both entrances - the one in Keele Village was the Sneyd Arms, the other at the other entrance was the Golfers. Spent an awful lot of my time in the latter during my 3 years there! Will have to scan some of my pics from then. Mossy (who's on here) is spouting a marvellous 'tache in all of them Rich
  5. Whooops - double post - agghh  R
  6. I think you're talking absolute cack to put it politely. It's a northern record and he's got one for sale; why not put it up in the sales section? As has been mentioned earlier, his other post was alerting us to an ebay scam, so he's hardly a bogus member. And how is it "monetary greed" if he wants the going rate for it? If you sold some rare records you'd want the going rate wouldn't you? And would you have the same morals and principles if you were in a thrift store in the U.S and found 5 copies of the Del Larks at 50 cents each - would you say to the shop owner "actually this goes for big bucks in the UK, I'll give you $1,000 for each copy" (and that's obviously below market value at that price) and not 50 cents each. Of course you wouldn't, so get off your ridiculous high horse. He's just being honest and he has a northern record for sale and people on this site want to buy northern records. End of. Christ, what's he got to do; fill out a survey and join the northern soul masons before he's allowed to sell 45s?? And your comments about "flooded with sales that mean absolutely sod all" is equally irrelevant as he's trying to flog one 45 that is a northern oldie/standard; he's not attempting to sell anything else. I don't think Mike or anybody else has a problem with people coming into the Sales section and flogging northern records, as clearly people on this site want to buy northern records. Some people really are too precious. Rich

  8. Yup, Jim Russel's has racks of 45s and racks of good LPs. You will deffo find bits in there (although unlikely any biggies). I've just called them and they are still open. It's on 1837 Magazine St, New Orleans, tel (504) 522 2602. I spent a day in there last time going through all the racks and spent a couple of hundred dollars. Great shop! Seem to recall another shop in N.O. - was it House of The Blues or summat similar? Nowhere near as many 45s as Jim Russel's, but a useful rack or two of 45s. Good luck! Rich
  9. Nice one chaps, will be tuning in! (ok, so not technically correct as it's a website, but you get my drift!!) Rich
  10. Don't really see what all the fuss is about and not sure why people are slagging him when he's actually trumpeting the music of the legendry Bobby Bland and possibly bringing Bobby's music to a wider audience who will go on to buy Bobby's music and dig a little deeper. Hucknall's not everyone's cup of tea, but why slag him/his product when he's giving Bobby deserved exposure? Totally illogical and balmy to slag it and as Rod said, Hucknall'sl ove of soul music is well known and not a flash in the pan, whatever you think of Hucknall's take on "soul" music. Rich
  11. Yup, was played a fair bit at Soulsville too, here in Leeds a few years ago... Rich
  12. Nah, my good mate Mossy's told me you're a bit of a wind up merchant Whereas you were doing it in jest, think I "bit" as there are quite a few on this site that knock things willy nilly when they're works of fiction and not meant to be northern soul documentaries and similar when mainstream radio stations put on a soul/black music related show e.g Craig Charles on BBC Radio, which are not aimed per se at the northern crowd. I think most of us who've ever been on the mod/scotter scenes still have a soft spot for Quadrophenia, but that wasn't exactly accurate, especially in relation to the music on the soundtrack, but it's still a great watch. Let's have a proper review when this thing does come out! Rich p.s if Mossy has got dodgy pics of you, I've got tons of him in various states of catatonia!!!
  13. Ker-chung! The sound of Trevski realising he's slightly gullible!!! Think you've been had mate Jocko, marvellous win on Saturday (ok we stuttered a fair bit, but got there in the end!). Not looking too good for you boys. Still, you've got England at home... Rich
  14. Total load of bollox, but that did make me smile I must admit Rich
  15. Me too. Definitely noticed things are generally taking quite a bit longer than usual (although one or two have arrived in the usual quick manner...) Rich
  16. I don't know Chris, I'd not even heard of it before this thread, so I'm as much in the dark as you. Hopefully someone knows something as I'd certainly buy it (ex mod and all that). Looking at the Myspace link <HERE>from the review, the chap who made it seems to be suggesting he's trying to get the DVD out (in the U.S at least) by summer 2008, so it appears we'll have to wait a few months. Cheers, Rich
  17. Really not sure how you can make such judgmental comments on the back of a 3 minute trailer - I assume you haven't actually watched the whole film, other than the 3 minute trailer?? In case you've not bothered to read the review, it's not about the British mod/scooter or soul scenes, it's a drama about the mod scene in the U.S. (which has been thriving since the 80s), not a documentary. I suspect you've never been on the U.S,. mod scene either. I also haven't seen anything other than the trailer so can't comment on whether it's a decent representation or not, but given I've never been on the U.S. mod scene, I'm not sure I could comment. Barry Norman you are not, so cut the barbed comments when you haven't even watched it. Some people on this site are so quick to knock anything that has a subject matter remotely interesting to most of us, when we really should be grateful when projects like this do appear, given the scarcity of films with any relevant subject matter to the soul or mod/scooter scenes. Get a grip. And if you do watch it and come back on moaning how factually incorrect it is, buy some filming equipment and get off your ass and see if you can do any better. People are far too quick to knock things down. Rich
  18. Went to see him last night and happy to report he appears to be on the mend. They're still doing loads of tests but apparently he's a lot better than he was. His mam was there amongst others. He's sitting up and we left him a CD player and some tunage so he's happy. Comedy ward though. Including a senile very old dear from an adjoining ward who came in the previous night and sat in the old boy's chair opposite (he's about 75 and hilarious) in the middle of the night and thought it was a commode and left a brown deposit . She wandered in again when I was there, sat in the chair and asked the old boy "can I have a piddle" He rang the bell and she was escorted away before she had the chance for a repeat performance. Good comedy writes itself... Rich
  19. Will do Kirsty Rich
  20. Shocked to hear this. I've actually just managed to speak to him and he sounds like he's on the mend, although he's obviously been pretty poorly by all accounts. I'm going to pop in to see him tonight, so I'll pass on your wishes Ady. Cheers, Rich
  21. Here you go, Mr Hatcher and "Sweetest Girl" at the bottom.... Rich
  22. I've got the original Excello advert for this at home (from memory it's an Excello advert with a few other releases too) and "Sweetest" was indeed the "b" side. Will dig it out and post when I get home tonight.... Rich
  23. That's taking me way back to a CCI rally in the 80s Rich
  24. And Do I spy young Liam Quinn in that video (Toodarnsoulful on here) amongst others??!!! Rich
  25. Think I'd be vary wary!!! I suppose one way is to ask him for scans of the flipsides of the 45s, that way he'll be stuck if he's just pinched old scans from other people's auctions... Rich
