Canadian Issues More Or Less Than Usa Issue ?
Rich Buckley replied to stewmac's topic in Look At Your Box
Have got Linda Griner on Canadian Tamla which is quite nice, plus a copy of the letter licence from Motown USA to Canadian Tamla, allowing it to issue it in Canada. It's got the royalty rate on and yes, it's a pittance! Will post up some pics of each when back at home.... Rich -

Yup, same as mine and sounds like Martin's too. Pretty sure it's not a reissue but a French/Belgian issue from when it was released... Rich

Has it got Teacher of Love on the flip?? Was definitely on the Fania LP Acid. I've got it on a weird Belgian/French white demo from when it was released. Couldn't see it on Popsike either... Rich

Ian Levine, Motorcity, Centre City, Blackpool Mecca, And Swons
Rich Buckley replied to a topic in All About the SOUL
Spot on Chalky, as was Reg's earlier post. This has turned into a thread about baiting IL, not about the merits of the DVD whatever the protagonists care to dress it up as. If IL hadn't produced it I doubt they'd have even posted on the subject. How anyone on our scene can knock a project which has brought our heroes onto film whatever the arguments about the production techniques is beyond me. It's a no brainer. Seeing Emanuel Laskey on film singing when we've played and danced to his records for years is dynamite and makes you tingle. End of. In a year when we've lost so many IL should be proud of getting so many on film for future generations and us to treasure for years to come. Get off your arses and do it better if you think you can. I don't see anyone on this site having the guts and sheer bloodymindedness to do that in the near future. Rich -
Another legend gone, how dreadful. RIP Mike and thanks so much for the pleasure you've given us all on a quite staggering amount of material. Sleep easy. Rich

You cheeky beggar!! Now, where did I put that unissued Salvadors white label Rich

Cheers for your hard work Dave, it's been a brilliant and informative read all these years. Hope you have a think about maybe keeping it going in some shape or form via t'interweb, but if not, thanks again See you soon for a beer. Rich

Just How Hard Is It To Get A Soul Bros Inc
Rich Buckley replied to Birder66's topic in Look At Your Box
Me and Jamie also got one each off Althia Brown, must be over 3 years ago now. Our mate Dan Collins is the man to ask though. He tracked George down, told him how big and appreciated his music was and how much the 45 was changing hands for, upon which George broke down in tears. Dan assumed it was George finally getting the recognition for his music that he had always craved. It wasn't; George explained he had recently moved house or had a clear out and had binned about 80 copies - agh! One of the moderators should be able to dig out the old thread. Dan got a demo copy. Now that IS hard! Rich -
I always ask for "used 45" with a value of $5. Most dealers are ok doing it... Rich

Paul, I don't have a bigoted view of you where do you get that from? Me and you have never had cross words. Why are you so aggressive? I honestly don't know what all the fuss is about. If it is crap and inaccurate do you think the scene's going to implode? As Mikey has said, it's going to change nothing; it's an underground scene today and it'll be an underground scene after the film's release. I'm sure most of us will go and watch it. If it's accurate and a good film then brilliant, if it isn't then I'm sure us soulies will cringe and laugh in equal measures at parts of it we view as off the mark. It won't change anything though and I won't lose any sleep over it. You and I both know the legals involved in clearing third party material for any production and of course let's hope the big labels that often ultimately own the rights in our beloved recordings play ball to allow the original songs to be included, which would generate royalties for artists who, as we know, often have only two bob to their name. That would be great wouldn't it? Let's not insult anyone's intelligence here, you called Paul, Liam etc "stunt" dancers in quotes to be totally sarcastic. Nobody outside of the industry would have known that term. I think objectively most people on here would view saying Dave Rimmer's got no personality as slagging too. I know who I'd rather have a pint with. You're so unnecessarily patronising in this thread it's unreal. By all means be passionate about the subject matter but why the aggressive and constantly patronising tone to regulars on here who have no axe to grind with you? Not one of us on here at the moment knows how the film's going to turn out and I think the sane vast majority (people with standing on the scene such as Ted Massey, Dave Rimmer (Willie Rushton )Ady, Jocko etc) naturally hold my view i.e wait and see. If it is crap and inaccurate we can all discuss it on here afterwards and have a general moan. What's the alternative? You've got no right to dictate to anybody what they make a film about nor how they make it. I know you said it's impossible to make a film about northern soul to capture the scene's essence (and I tend to agree), but are you truly advocating censorship? Maybe if you'd injected your passion and energy expended on this thread into advising them or offering a hand, you'd be less angry. It puzzles me why you're so aggressive. As I've said, if the extras were badly treated then a big thumbs down, although nobody forced anyone to attend anything for free. You and I both know about production budgets. Sure, the production team came on here to inform us about the production and to get extras. I personally don't see a problem with that; people are grown up enough to decide whether they want to participate or not. Anyways, I hope it's crammed full of original music, as accurate as possible and a damn good watch! Peace Rich
