Linda Griner - Goodbye Cruel Love / World - Motown

I've got this on Canadian Tamla. Also have a copy of the Jobete contract allowing them to issue it over there. Will post up scans of both when back home tomorrow. Top tune! Rich -
Yeah, it's a mono photocopy of both sides of the promotional sleeve with the 45 in it and inside the physical sleeve is the following flyer.... I would have scanned the whole sleeve (not just the inner) but it's cellotaped (20 year old!) to the inside lid of my first ever 300 record box with other flyers attached to it with tape and it'll rip if I do. Just out of interest the other flyers were for The Raven in Whichurch (Jonny Beggs and Pep on - happy days!) and the North Wales Soul Club's New Years Day alldayer 1990 with Roger Banks on and the usual N.Wales suspects - Mark Bicknell, Chico, Mark Speakmen, Chris Fenny, Phil Blacknell etc. Happy days! So what year was Clacton?? Rich
-
I remember a certain Mace using the sleeve design as a flyer for one of the R & Soul set rallies in late 80s/early 90s. Mace, get it up chief! Rich

Good luck Stefan. Sounds like some opportunistic scrote who probably won't know what they are. I'd have thought he'll either dump them once he's seen what's inside the box or offload them at a record shop/flea market. Get the Hamburg soulies to keep checking all the known places for you and as daft as it sounds, have a good hunt around the area where they were taken from in case he dumps them thinking they're worthless. Good luck. Rich

Alcohol At Allnighters...is There Really Any Need For It?
Rich Buckley replied to a topic in All About the SOUL
Total utter bollocks. I've been doing nighters since I was 16 in '87 and beer and other stuff goes hand in hand with the record bars and chatting with like minded normal everyday folk. Sometimes on here it's like the nanny state gone mad.. Rich -
1987 I was in the sixth form in school and worked at Kwik Save a couple of nights after school and on Saturdays. I'd been buying cheapies from the likes of Mick Smith, La Beat (Rob Wigley), Richard Domar (remember his wonderful telephone manner?!) amongst others. Doug Banks I Just Kep On Dancing was massive at the time, both on the mod scene and northern scene. Mick turned up a boxful (90 copies I think?) and was banging them out on his list for £30. My take home pay (this was pre min wage) was less than this per week but I agonised for days about whether to blow my dosh on this then major want (which would leave me skint and unable to go out). Of course I bought it and I remember being up the ladders at Kwik Save the day after I'd bought it thinking to myself "what have you done" and "you're working here all sodding day lugging stock onto the shelves for nothing as you've blown it on one record"!!! Happy days The guilt didn't last long however and as has been said earlier in the thread, once the seal is broken, you're knackered!! First £100 one was Freddie Houston - If I Had Known (£120) also off Mick... Rich

There has been a lot of tosh written in this thread! Simple answer to the original post is that nobody, no country, no scene has any inalienable right to the physical records or the music in general. Thankfully it's a free world (for the most part!). As a side hand grenade I would add that the scene in most of the European countries is on the whole of a younger age. No doubt, when their scenes are ageing the plastic will flow elsewhere although the vast bulk is still in this country in my opinion and probably always will be. So you see, we're one big happy recycling northern soul scene Rich

Don't ever give up. Issue a claim via www.moneyclaim.gov.uk if you have to, but first you need to notify the happy couple in writing that you propose to do it. Give them 7 days to send you cleared funds and then issue against them (it will cost a small fee but you would get it back when the court makes an Order against them. They would have no defence to the claim so it would be straightforward. They wouldn't want any County court judgments against their name as it would destroy their credit rating, so they would pay up sharpish. Rich
-
PMd ya..
-
Yup, in the absence of a script commissioning agreement the court (not saying it'd ever go that far) would look to evidence - it may well be you end up with a joint writing credit if you've contributed (maybe not 50/50, but a joint credit nonetheless) unless the actual script doesn't use any of your contribution. Normally whoever commissioned and paid for the script would acquire the format (subject to the usual turnaround provisions) but I guess if it was all done verbally without any paperwork then it's all up for discussion. Anyhow, PM me if you want any help as this is my day job. Rich
-
Isn't in Mick's script though Paul? Otherwise he wouldn't be able to exploit it in any form would he? If so, just curious as to how come you didn't take a full assignment of rights (maybe subject to him receiving the usual backend revenue streams) if you commissioned the script from him and paid him? It was your baby wasn't it i.e he didn't bring the idea and script to you did he? Rich

As a total neutral (didn't buy a ticket and none of my friends did) following this thread I think my first reaction, probably along with most people, was one of sympathy for a non-promoter of big events trying to pull something brilliant off and when it went pear shaped struggling to to sort refunds due to the machinations of the banking system (cheque books etc). Had it taken a few weeks, nobody would have really minded I don't think. That sympathy soon evaporated and turned to disgust when it became clear that they weren't paying people back in a timely fashion, but even worse they were not keeping people informed about what was going on and not replying to emails. That was the biggest kick in the teeth. If they'd held their hands up and said hey, we're trying to pay you all back as quick as we can but it will take till x date in all likelihood, people would probably have cut them some slack, but the total wall of silence was deafening and naturally made people angry when their hard earned money had gone and didn't appear to be coming back. The totat lack of information/updates caused most of the resentment and was obviously totally unnecessary. The post by the said couple beggars belief in terms of attitude and tone when they've purposely ignored so many people asking when they were going to receive a refund. More front than Blackpool! Rich

I've got exactly the same thing with a record I just got, but there is absolutely no mark/scratch/or blemish on the styrene (it's detroit!) where the stick is. Have tried winding back etc but still the same. Grrr!! Rich
-
Yeah, I've got it on a yellow Blue Beat reissue!! Rich
-
No, but one I got off Ebay last week was the same and normally they're easy to fix, but this one won't budge either I've never personally had them "develop" on a record that was previously ok. Are you sure your stylus doesn't need replacing mate? Rich

Oi oi Gareth! I used to spin this in Telfords in Chester with Carl circa '96, when we did Cat In The Hat. Remember those nights?! I went to see Joe Bataan in Leeds on Saturday and he was absolutely AWESOME!! His first UK appearance, the place was full and he did a brilliant set, opening with Gypsy Woman which got the crowd going and he didn't look back after that. Great band backing him too. Very glad I went!! Rich

I know, I can't believe how anyone could bid over $1,000 for it. When you play the soundclip it's horrendous; you could never even DJ with that it's way too noisy. Baffling!! Rich

I've got one of these too, but like Ged haven't really played it out at all. First heard it on a Tim Ashibende tape many moons ago... Rich
