  1. Ooops didn't see Dave's reply before I replied. Regards Alan
  2. Hi Sebastian, I have this record on Japanese London in its own factory sleeve as well. looks great just like your Turkish Decca copy, If I get chance later I will scan it and post it up. Regards Alan
  3. Their other record on Scepter was the brilliant "Waitin' Line". Regards Alan
  4. Hey up Dave, how goes it mate, the Hitsville Weekender is picking up speed now, will be an absolute cracker. Anyway back to Kim Weston like you say it is strange as there must have either some success or potential seen on it's American release because of the subsequent release in the UK and also an appearance on Ready Steady Go (I think) singing 'A little more love', here is a link for thode who would like to give it listen just copy and paste into your address bar. I take your point about the flip side being released on two issues but I think 'Go ahead and laugh' was the flip of both issues. The matrix info you come up with is really strange like you say how can it be released a month or so before it was recorded, a bit of a typo there, I will check my books to see if it throws any more light on it. Will email you later Dave infact will you send by email or personal message your phone number and I will give you a bell. Regards Alan
  5. Cheers Rich so there is the scan but does anyone know why it is so rare ???? Regards Alan
  6. Does anyone know or have any decent theories as to why Kim Weston's 'A little more love' on Tamla 54106 is so very very rare, I know and understand that lots of Tamla / Motown / Gordy etc singles are very rare but I would have thought this was a minor hit on it's release. Does anyone own it on here or even better has anyone got a scan of it. Regards Alan
  7. ...so wot's the strangest thing ya seen on a label? steve
  8. Are you in the queue as well Phil, awesome record isn't it, the you tube footage is very cleverly done as the songers and the dancers are not dancing to this track and the singers are singing a totally differnt song but it's done to make you think it is this track. Regards Alan
  9. I knew it was going to be a long shot but if you don't ask you don't get do you ? Regards Alan
  10. Must get out soon to listen to one of your sets Mark especially if it includes records of this calibre. See you soon. Best Regards Alan
  11. Hi, I am looking for a copy The Sweets - Satisfy me baby b/w Something about my baby on Soultown. If anyone has a copy for sale please pm me with your price and condition. Thanks in advance. Regards Alan
  12. Hi John, Generally what you are saying about it mentioning the release label on the acetate is true, infact most acetates don't even quote the artist just the title, however I have many Jobete Acetates that do have the all the information on. The strangest acetate I have is "Fireman" by Vala Regan & The Valarons on Bob Crewe Productions, it is a single sided acetate with the release label ATCO quoted on the label and even the Atco release number, does anyone have any information on this release, I heard that there were only ever 18 copies pressed on this acetate or demo call it what you like. Regards Alan
  13. I bet there were some fantastic albums there, the one you left is probably one of the rarer ones. Our Woolies along with co-op and other department stores had all UK reggae singles and I do remember LP's in other skips but to tell you the truth I didn't look at them plus I don't think I would have recognised some of the obscurer Tamla stuff I would probably played it safe with Supremes, Temptations and Stevie Wonder etc. Regards Alan
  14. Hi Eddie, Great thread mate, hows things ? ok I hope. Anyway I don't claim to have any really rare UK albums but here are a few that have that I consider quite hard to track down, American Gypsy - American Gypsy - BTM. The Artistry of Brenda Holloway - Brenda Holloway - Tamla Motown (if my memory serves me well there is no USA release of this stunning album). The Fantastic Four - The Fantastic Four - Tamla Motown. Greetings Were The Monitors - The Monitors - Tamla Motown. Bobby Taylor & The Vancouvers - Bobby Taylor & The Vancouvers - Tamla Motown. Regards Alan
  15. Hi Ian, Rick Cooper is still around, I see him quite often he is a good friend of mine, he lives in Stockport which is where I used to live, I now live in Denbigh, North Wales so I don't see him quite as often as I used too. Like you say Rick is very shy and if you didn't know better you wouldn't have a clue of his contribution. Anyway it has been said many times on this thread but this is seriously the best thread I have ever read on Soul Source and great repsect to everyone who has contributed with their great stories about record hunting, my hunting has been restricted to the UK so is nowhere near as interesting as the USA trips that have featured. My finds in the UK have been The Chants "Baby I don't need your love" nice RCA issue plus lots of other RCA stuff but none of the major stuff from Mazels in Manchester, I also found 20 copies each of Eric & The Vikings "I'm truly yours" Gordy demo's, 10 copies of "Hurt" by The Victors on Philips Issue's and 20 copies of "The Penguin Breakdown" L.J.Reynolds on Avco all from the same junk shop in Ardwick, Manchester all for 5p each. I also found a Chuck Cockerham "Have I got the right" on Mala on Ashton market for 20p. I also had a fairly nice find whilst on holiday in Axminster a few years back, I found this music instrument shop whilst I was doing the usual good husband routine of waiting outside the shop that my wife was looking in,anyway I popped in to have a look at the guitars which I have always been fond of being the only instrument I could play a few chords on anyway while in the shop I noticed some racks of LP's and next to them singles, there was some great UK Tamla Motown issues all in pristine condition for £1 each, stuff like "You" Marvin Gaye, "Why when love is gone" The Isley Brothers, "Some things you never get used to" Diana Ross & The Supremes, "One way out" Martha & The Vandellas, "My weakness is you" Edwin Starr and many more including some nice Reggae which is still a major love of mine, infact in my apprentice collecting days I used to spend my school dinner money on reggae tunes that where in massive skips in the main Co-op store in Mersey square Stockport, there was very little soul in there except for the some of the obvious soul records that came out on regaae labels such as Jimmy James "Help yourself" on Trojan, Jackie Edwards "I must go back", Glenn Miller "Where is the love" on Doctor Bird and Laurel Aitken stuff on Nu Beat. Finally I wish I had the contacts and spare cash I have now 30 years ago I would loved to have a crack at trying to find stuff in the states. Krep this thread going I love it, there must plenty more stories to come yet, your own stories Ian are amazing you certainly have had some fun and some hair raising moments but i suppose you have get into the dangerous areas to find the shops or bizaars that have the records. Regards Alan
  16. It was recorded in 1990 for Ian Levine's Motor City label, not sure if there was anymore than just the one version. Regards Alan
  17. Hi Eddie, hope you well mate, Looks like I'd better get my fire extinguisher and get back in there to rescue Little Jerry on that lovely Spanish Picture Sleeve, top tune, always been one of faves and I totally forgot about in my original list, Regards Alan
  18. Great choice with the Jackey Beavers track Dave reminds me very much of the first Hitsville Weekender in Orlando. 5 LP's to save from the flames, not so easy but here goes, 1) What's going on - Marvin Gaye - Tamla Motown. 2) Extensions of a man - Donny Hathaway - Atco. 3) The show must go on - Sam Dees - Atlantic. 4) California Sunset - The Originals - Tamla Motown. 5) American Gypsy - American Gypsy - BTM. Regards Alan
  19. Having read lots of posts this weekend there were lots of reminders thatmade me realise why this music we all means so much to me which prompted me into thinking that if I had to rescue 5 records from my collection before they all went up in smoke which would they be. 1. Belita Woods - I just love you - Epic (soul perfection, this track has every quality that makes me realise why this music means so much to me, if it were a £1000 instead £15 I would saving up now). 2. Marvin Gaye - What's going on - Tamla Motown (my green & white demo is probably my most prized demo in my collection next to my Stateside red & white demo of The 4 Tops of Baby I need your loving). 3. Junior Walker & The All Stars - What does it take (to win your love) - Tamla Motown (the Carlsberg version again another lovely green & white demo). 4. Betty Willis - Take my heart - Rendevous (very early haunting crossover soul music, thanks to Pat Brady for putting me onto this many years ago). 5. Tower Of Power - So very hard to go - Warner Brothers (just truly awesome, from my early days as a collector). What are the 5 records you would rescue ???? Regards Alan
  20. Mecca monster, top quality tune not a sign of disco. Regards Alan
  21. I have seen a promotion copy of it many years ago, so it probably didn't get as far as being issued but demo's exist. I'd like to throw another of these do they or don't they exist records and that is The Volumes on Pama ????????????? Regards Alan
  22. Just a couple of hours to go
  23. Absolutely stunning soul record, always reminds me of The Orwell but I heard it again on Friday night at Prestatyn, worth the cost of the weekend alone. Regards Alan
  24. Just over 24 hours to go before the end of the auction.
