Ian, thanks very much for that explanation it is much appreciated, like I say the money that Jeanne & The Vallamonts cost me is history, it doesn't bother me anymore as I have had alot of satisfaction out of the record, I featured it in my dj sets for a good 2 years and it became a very popular record with people always asking me for it, I only dropped it from my set when the copies flooded the market and I became suspicious all over again and by that I don't mean I wouldn't of played it if I knew it was an 'Ian Levine Production' because I would have done and still will play if I am asked. By the way I never suspected that you had anything to do with Jim Gilstrap and David Rhodes. Anyway thanks again for that Regards Alan -

Hi Ian, How are things with you? Ok I hope, we haven't spoke for a few years but last time we did speak the real identity and origin of The Four Vandals and Venicia Wilson records were still a mystery to us but of course not to you, but now we seem to be able to discuss who they are, what year they were recorded and even videos of them which is great as I think they are good records and it's lot easier to appreciate them if you know who they are. However there is still one record who's origins is still a mystery to me, as you can possibly remember I paid a hell of a lot of money for Jeanne and The Vallamonts - Change my destiny - Maximum and within a few months there were copies all over the place for £10, now I am thick skinned enough to accept that dropped a major bollock, who hasn't in the years they have been collecting, but I would like to close the subject so would you please let me know what you know about this record. Incidentally I think the videos by Bobby Hebb, C.P.Spencer, Mel Britt and Freddy Butler are awesome. Regards Alan -
Can anyone give me a link or tell me how to get to John Manships finishing prices on is auction, by that I don't mean just last weeks, there is a way of seeing all his previous finishing prices. Thanks in advance Regards Alan

Like Dave says I do have a minter of Fireman on Bob Crewe Productions, I have had mine for about 15 years and I bought off a well known UK dealer for £200, I was also told by the dealer that my copy was probably 1 of a maximum 18 copies in existance, where he got the information from who knows but I'm not in a position to question it. In all the years I have owned it I have never seen or heard of any of the other supposedly 17 copies until today that is. So yes I believe it is avery rare record, the only negative about owning this copy is that you don't get the wonderful B side on the Atco release as this Bob Crewe copy is single sided. Anyway it's nice to see another copy, can anyone conform how many copies could be out there, is the quote of 18 likely to be right. PS Dave I rang you this evening and left a message on your answer phone, is your spanish number the number at the bottom of the back page on There's That Beat Issue 8. Speak soon mate, Things are starting to move on the Hitsville front re treatment in Spain. Regards Alan

Hi Harry, this one on Ebay looks like a boot to me, no address at the bottom of the label. Regards Alan

Best record thats come up for sale today on Soul Source, stunning crossover track that I have been championing now for about 12 years since I got my copy off John Manships sales CD for a few quid. Regards Alan

I have a copy for sale if you haven't managed to get one yet Regards Alan Pollard

Fantastic tune i bought it as a new release on UK Warner Brothers, Track of the cat is also a brilliant tune. I have tried unsuccessfully to get it more popular on the dance floors but we seem to have this reluctance to allow ourselves to get behind records that are brilliant but unfortunatly not in the slightest bit rare but you get a record that is dog rare and sh**e that gets everyone talking and dancing to, it totally baffles me. Same Song, Same Artist, Different Version
Alan Pollard replied to Blake H's topic in All About the SOUL
What about:- Big Al Downing - I'm just nobody - Columbia & Polydor (2 totally different records by the same artist, same title). Last night I heard a totally different version of 'Don't bring back memories' by The Four Tops now it was definately The Four Tops singing so it wasn't the unreleased Shrine Version by Tommy somebody or other but it was different than my copy, I have it on UK single anyone know what it is. Regards Alan -
Purple Hearts - Hopes Dreams Tombstones
Alan Pollard replied to Sunnysoul's topic in Look At Your Box
It must be fairly rare as John does have it on his auction however it is an awful version in my opinion, nothing whatsoever soulful about it but then Jimmy Fraziers/ YOPS version isn't soulful either, again just my opinion. Regards Alan -

Hi Mark, Hows things mate ?, Geary Street - Bill Purcel is in my opinion a brilliant instrumental, I may have a spare copy if your interested, to be certain I would have to check which I could do over the weekend. Regards Alan
-
Hi Dave, You know my feelings about how good that weekend, having such esteemed guests as the Harthon guys, if it wasn't for you, Bev, Judi and Joanne there's know way I could have made it. I have the photo you talk about and I still can't get my head around the way Weldon, Johnny and Luther treated us as though we were the guests they had come to see. I know your other treasured moments mean such alot to you especially meeting Sammy & The Delarks, remember the first Hitsville Weekender where there was a Delarks demo on both decks, great memories. I wouldn't have thought it will difficult to get There's that beat signed by the guys. Regards Alan

Hi Pete, Great thread, I have always loved instrumentals and my faves are:- Bubblegum Breakthrough - Mike Post Coalition - Warner Brothers 7 Arts (just love the way this builds up). Bella Delana - The Marketts - Warner Brothers (awesome laid back, feel good music). Six O'Clock - The Total Eclipse - Imperial (I think, can't be bothered looking for it to check, oooh those strings are out of this world) Geary Street - Bill Purcel - Dot (popular spin for me in Stockport in early 80's). Earl Wright Orchestra - Thumb a ride - Capitol (The master of all instrumentals). Don't pretend - Soul Fox Strings - Soul Fox (its a boot I know but I love it). Astral Trip - Mystic Moods - Warner Brothers (I had quite a soft spot for this again beutiful production) Regards Alan

I know there is going to be alot of people saying that the artist autographing direct on to the label de-values the record well I personally wouldn't have it any other way, I have got all my Harthon, Arctic, Argo and all the Dynodynamic records autographed by Weldon, Luther and Johnny directly on to the label, I also have many others like Hoagy Lands, Willie Tee, The Dells, Bobby Paris, Dean Courtney, Maxine Brown and Sidney Barnes some signed on the record and some on the sleeve, the truth is these records aren't going anywhere as I will never sell them and even if I did the autographs do not affect the playing of the record. So my vote goes with either signing the record or the sleeve but I can also see why some people will only have the sleeve signed. Regards Alan

Hey up Dave, did you have to show this fantastic slab of soul music, indeed my all time want, seeing this label scan just reminds me why I love the rare soul scene, it would appear that regardless of how much you are prepared to put up for a copy that copies remain firmly in the collections and don't turn up for sale, I know there was one on the bay about a year ago but it looked absolutely knackered, I did actually buy one about 12 years ago, it looked mint but it had needle burn from start to finish, damn styrene. Nice one Dave, will speak to you shortly re the Hitsville Weekender, having mega problems trying to sort out a way of getting there. Best Alan

It's a bootleg out of New York and as far as I know there's just one release A Brothers Guiding Light "Getting together" b/w The Aristocrats "Lets get together", two absolute top sides which as separate release would set you back close on £500, this bootleg it self is now quite rare, I had a copy close on 25 years ago but I got rid as soon as I knew the origination of it. Regards Alan

Didn't Billy Eckstine record a version for Motown ?????????????? Regards Alan

Awesome spine tingling brilliance. There is another version, beach music version by The Counts I think, quite rare, the last copy I saw or heard was John Phillips copy. Regards Alan
