  1. I'll second that "When I'm in your arms" is a awesome tune, great taste. Also check out her other tune on Verve "Straighten Up And Fly Right" backed with the brilliant "Everythings wonderful". Regards Alan
  2. Sorry to hear that Mark, it has been a great show over the years, setting up a show like yours must consume alot of your time and I can understand that must be difficult at times, any good luck in anything you decide to do in the future you know you will always have soul sourcers supporting you. Seasons Greetings to you and Jacqui, Regards, Alan
  3. Hi, I think I'm right in saying that J.J.Barnes was on at the same all dayer at The Heavy Steam Machine, can you remember if I'm right. Regards Alan
  4. Right where do we start, there have been some brilliant acts over the years but the highlights for me were, Detroit Emeralds - Heavy Steam Machine. Maxine Brown - Cleethorpes. Dean Parrish - Cleethorpes. Betty Wright - Wigan Casino. regards, Alan
  5. Hi Philippe, I paid $75. Regards, Alan

  7. Hi, As well as this happening on these Karen releases it also happened on many other labels where they had local releases and national releases, another one which springs to mind is The Four Sonics "Easier said than done" on Sport 111 and The Appreciations "It's better to cry" also Sport 111. Regards Alan
  8. Yes Harry they are one of my favourite groups. Regards, Alan
  9. Hi John, Thanks for that, in all honesty I never read the notes as there is some right idiots on there, I was had an argument with a guy on there who was adamant that The Four Tops "Ask the lonely" and "Where did you go" were recent discoveries and had never been out on singles. Looks like I'm after the Fabulous Ronettes then Thanks again, Regards, Alan
  10. Hi, Does anyone know if The Ronettes version of "You baby" was ever released as a single ? I'm aware it came out on an album or CD. I have checked Dave Rimmers excellent discographies on Soulful Kinda Music but I can't see it on there. This is the same tune as Len Barry and Jackie Trent recorded great versions of. If you haven't heard The Ronettes version check this out. https://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=_0wFm9DPs8U Regards, Alan
  11. Stunning track, stunning album, Van McCoy at his very very best. Regards, Alan
  12. There are many great instrumentals but the ones that stand out for me are:- Boogie Man Orchestra - Lady Lady Lady - Boogie Man. Earl Wright Orchestra - Thumb a ride - Capitol. Bob & Earl Band - My Little Girl - Mirwood. Sidra Strings - Sidra's Theme - Sidra. 5 of Kind - The Other side - Sidra. Regards Alan
  13. Hi Roger, Extremely sorry to hear about your sister, 42 is no age, Judi and my thoughts are with you and your family. Regards Alan
  14. Hey up Gary, I'd love to be able to sketch like that, very good. Regards Alan
  15. I think Nems was the label it was released on commercially. I think most of Ian's early stuff was promo'd on Tomorrow. Regards Alan
  16. I would say Tomorrow but I'm not 100% certain. Regards Alan
  17. In my my humble opinion it is Lamont Dozier. Regards Alan
  18. I think the rarest or one of the rarest NZ release must be The Belles "Don't pretend" on NZ Action (a grey label) I had a copy till recently when I sold it for a mate. Regards, Alan
  19. Hi Roger, Hope you are well mate, I agree with every thing you say which doesn't justify it's exclusion froom John's book, I have never had a Bronco copy, just my President copy which I bought as it was played at The Pendulum. if the President copy books at £30 then I would put the Bronco copy at about £50. Regards Alan
  20. Great tune, was a particularly a big tune at the Pendulum Club in Manchester in the early 70's, a personal favourite of mine, like you I think it would be worth a tenner but demand dictates price and I would imagine there's no demand at the moment but if a DJ got behind playing it again who knows !!! As far it coming out on President, well President was responsible for releasing in the UK the Bronco label. If you looked into the stuff President put out it 's quite remarkable, stuff like The Belles 'Don't pretend', Jimmy Robbins 'Just can't please you', nearly all thr Felice Taylor catalogue etc etc. Regards Alan
  21. Definately the Darlene Love version. Regards Alan
  22. I found this out with the Donna Loren track "It only hurts when I cry" on the LP Beach Blanket Bingo it is totally different to the You Tube video, as far as I know there isn't a single. I realise that it's not a soul record but it's a nice pop track. Regards Alan
  23. Beautiffuly said Dave and every word spot on. Best Alan
  24. I suppose ever since we viewed the clip of Levi in his wheelchair with the rest of the Tops and Aretha singing 'I believe in you' we knew then that his health was extremely poor and news of his death we have been expecting every day since, the fact he survived longer than I thought he would is a bonus. The world is a better place for having Levi in it for 72 years and for me through all the sadness the greatness of this man hits me today just the same as has done for the last 41 years since the needle settled into the grooves of 'If I were a carpenter' and a moment for me that I will never forget, and then the next exciting few years discovering the rest of the catalogue. Last night I was DJ'ing at The Greatstone Hotel in Manchester and my tribute to Levi Stubbs was incredibly emotional, so much so I could hardly get my words out through the microphone when annoucing the 3 tracks I had elected to play in memory of the great man. The dance floor was rammed for every second of the 3 records, due respect to everyone for remembering the guy. The 3 records I elected to play were:- Baby I need your loving - Stateside. Just as long as you need me - Tamla Motown. Is there anything that I can do ? - French Tamla Motown EP. For a group to get together as school friends and form The Four Aims in 1952 and still be together all these years later, only death seperating them shows the loyality between each other. I remember very clearly the night we heard of Lawrence Payton's death we were at The Sportsman on Macclesfield and Ginger did a similar tribute which was again extremely emotional. Unfortunately this type of event is going to become more and more regular as our heroes reach a certain age. I think it's Dave Moore who always looks on these sad events with a positive job well done quote, well Dave I couldn't agree with you more, I will be getting my Four Tops 'forever' CD box set out and playing it this week just to remind of this job so well done. RIP Levi and thanks for the memories such as:- "Then" "Just a little love" "Do what you gotta do" "Where did you go" "Ask the lonely" "Still Water Love/Peace" "Helpless" "There's no love left" "It's all in the game" etc etc etc. Regards Alan
  25. Hi Chris, I picked up a demo copy about 15 years ago for £15, and then I found an issue about 8 years ago for £15, I would value you it today at about £30, cracking album, McKinley Jackson at his finest. Regards Alan
