You'll Never Make The Grade - The Sunlovers
Rugby Soul Club replied to Ian Dewhirst's topic in All About the SOUL
Dean's just playing a few tunes and popped this on. "Bloody hell" says I, "I haven't heard this in yonks" I didn't realise the story behind it and I'd probably only ever heard it at home over the last 30+ years. I may actually die trying to dance to it now, but would would love to try -
M People - How Can I Love You More
Rugby Soul Club replied to Ady Croasdell's topic in Look At Your Box

He was a lovely man, who did indeed support Rugby in our younger days and brought many people along with him. Now in good company with Trev RIP xx

Yes, we've been very lucky with numbers. My eldest son did comment when we were running at a loss that my career in accounts wasn't really ringing alarm bells

Len, I don't know if you saw my post re: the rising cost of hiring the Benn Hall and it prompted your thread. Anyway, for those who didn't see it, here it is... We've just paid the deposit for the next year of Rugby Allniters. The council have put our hire charge up by 26% this year, that's another £255 just for the room (excluding door staff) Those who are good at maths will realise that's £1,200 a night! We have to take it on the chin because we love the venue & don't want to lose it just because it's a mental layout. We have had a rise in charges every year (except last year) since we started and have managed to still keep our entry to £10 before 9pm and £12 after. Luckily our numbers have gone up too. So we still don't intend to put our entry price up. And we'd like to thank you all for your continued support. xx It was never about the money for us but covering our costs needs to happen. It didn't for the first 4/5 yrs and we've probably never covered our loses from back then but we've had a great time doing it

Good Angel aka Charlie (Kev) Jarvis
Rugby Soul Club replied to Rugby Soul Club's topic in All About the SOUL
I've just heard that the family would prefer everyone not to wear black As I only ever normally wear black, I'm sure no one will recognise me. -

I hope that this is the right place to post this... I held back until I got the ok from his family but it is with a sad heart that we have to announce the passing of one of our loyal supporters at Rugby, Charlie Boy (Kev) Jarvis. Your spot, right, front of stage, will ever be yours Charlie xx Just a few pics of Kev at our allniter. Dance again without pain Charlie boy. Our Good Angel ;-)

All Because Of You - Northern Soul Portraits - Birmingham
Rugby Soul Club commented on Mike's article in Event News
A well written response BUT, the last statement sends shivers down my spine... Music such as northern soul is central to the lives of many people, and such should be studied as seriously as any other aspect of life. - I hope that helps! The thought that we should be "studied seriously" is really not what I want and I'm sure many others who go out of a weekend to escape the reality of normal lives feel the same too. I feel the world has gone mad. -
Omg, sorry but that me laugh so much Be careful how you put your records in a box or they will get "cue" burn. The clue is in the name
-
He's quite busy at the min and not on line a lot. If you want to pm me your contact details, mobile or landline and I'll pass a message onto him. Failing that, the next Rugby is 11th Feb and he will be there.

Selling for a friend who's not on here but I do have it in hand. I'd say it looks M- and plays beautifully but there is crackling on the run in but stops before play, hence I'd grade it as VG+ £150

We visited Lymm after a Burnley allniter...very scary -
I was thinking of the charity alldayer too. Any excuse to go and bother them Yes, see you on the 12th. My daughter will be there.
-
Matt, that's a really lovely Gesture. I just asked Katie (my daughter) which was the club playing soul and she answered with, it's HiFi club and the night is called Move On Up. Quite well into it for a mere student who will go back to "normal" world afterwards...that'll be allnighters every weekend, not just the occasional one because of uni.
-
Lovely to read your story about your19 year old at Uni in Leeds. Our daughter is at Leeds Beckett. She was at a gig at the student union last week and the conversation got around to where everyone came from. She said Rugby and got the "oh, there's an allniter there". Admitting your parents ran it would have been so uncool a few years back but not anymore. Brilliant to have the young blood taking an interest.
-
Thanks Steve You and your partner would be very welcome at Rugby allniter and yes, the Freestyle Room would float your boat but we also like to think the Main Room isn't your run of the mill oldies room Next one is Sat 10th Sept.

That's a Ken Aitchison play at Rugby

One of the original SSLAAS ladies and a great sense of humour. She did our badges and I, for one, still have mine. RIP Chrissie xx
