  1. Can anybody send me (D.Pearson@bradford.ac.uk) or post up soundfiles of both sides of their AMG release please. Don't know the release myself. I believe its the same group who recorded for Crash, Date and Glow Hill. Thanks, derek Always liked their "Just beginning to love you" apart from that horrible intro 'you're just a dirty dog' what were they thinking?!
  2. If anybody fancies any of these 3 little beauties all in Ex condition email me off list please (D.Pearson@bradford.ac.uk). Donald Height "I choose you" (Dakar WDJ) same flip £70 (are there any issues of this - whats the flip like?); Four Below Zero "My babys got ESP" (P&P) £125; Bobby Wilburn "I'm a lonely man" (Gamble WDJ) same flip £75. P&P extra. cheers, derek
  3. Only ever seen double sided WDJ's of this - anybody got a red issue and whats the flip like? Believe the Del Royals only had 2 releases on Mercury. Great vocals indeed from Willie Johnson I suspect (he's the featured singer named on the credits).
  4. it's an acetate that a friend of mine bought off Pat Brady about 12 years ago, he's still got it and won't sell it. Think he paid about 100 quid for it! Pete - it sounds alot like the Del Royals version on Mercury (see scan) which came out Oct 1969. Havent got time to compare the two maybe its an unreleased different mix of the DR's? cheers, derek
  5. For sale: all M/Ex Keni Lewis "Aint gonna make it easy" (De Vel) £35; Herman George "What have I got" (Bet) £65; Tommy Turner "Lady" (El Bam) £25. P&P extra. Off list replies please to D>Pearson@bradford.ac.uk cheers, derek
  6. played it briefly earlier and you're dead right on your opinion Marc. Surely not £250? Its a dirgy ballad type thing. Oh well.... derek just thought - mines a double sided WDJ "We are together" - does the issue copy have something of note on the flip?
  7. Here's a scan of the front cover aswell. Think it was me that played it as a guest on Searling's radio show a few years ago. I said then I thought it was Joyce Bond only because thats who Pete Smith thought it was and it seemed very likely. derek
  8. Here's a scan of the French Vogue EP which I bought from Pete Smith a couple of years ago for £120 (I think?). Always fancied but never had a UK original of the song which was a favourite of mine from the late Wigan days. So when I saw it on Pete's lists I was curious to hear the duet version, something a little different I thought. He played it down the phone and the deal was done. There's a hand written date on the label which reads 5-1-67. derek On a poignant note whilst DJing at the Notts Union (Fri 5 Nov) Derek Allen came up to the decks for a chat and he commented on the Jackie Edwards EP which I'd pulled out for consideration. Actually played it and name checked him for it. Mister Allen was a gentle soul indeed.
  9. Because blank CDs are so cheap nowadays and copying CDs has never been easier here's Dee Pee in a benevolent mood. I've done an 80 minute CD featuring 29 records for sale. Bear in mind you get the full length not a 1 minute snippet. To get a copy all you have to do is email me (off list to D.Pearson@bradford.ac.uk) with your address, I don't mind if its UK or worldwide. Prices range from £8 to £50 and names include Reggie Garner, Chuck Armstrong, Buck Ram Platters, Lou Ragland, Eddie Horan, Manhattans, Bobby McClure, Masqueraders, Dynamic Tints, Mindreaders, Irene Scott, Village Choir, Eddie Holman, Billy Davis, Dorothy Berry, Jackie Washington, Oscar Mack, Don Hollinger, Joe Haywood, Arthur Conley, Willie Charles Gray, Twentie Grans, Jimmy Mack, Jewel & Rubies, Ollie & Nightingales etc. Styles range from northern/60s/70s/southern/crossover/ ballads/semi knowns - all decent soul stuff in my opinion. My sales CD are for free but if anybody wants to send me a CD or tape in return of their recent plays/purchases/radio shows/sales etc that would be nice. onwards, derek
  10. Said I'd help the company promote their first new 45 release so here goes: Manchester's VoxPop record store has established what promises to be a fantastic new legit re-issue label 'VoxPop45', the first release is the incredible blues funk masterpiece ''Alcohol' penned by the (until now) mysterious Detroit based recording artist Robert Jay, Voxpops Tim Giles interviewed Robert to find out the story behind this obscure gem....On 29th May 1934 Robert Jay, born Robert Brown Jr was born in Lower Peach Tree, Alabama. At the age of 13, after saving up $60 from his paper round he got the bus and headed for Detroit. It was some 26 years later that Robert recorded and pressed 300 copies of a tough, blues influenced funk track with the title "Alcohol"......................... For the full interview see www.soulgeneration.co.uk/robertjay.htm Contact Voxpop if you wanna buy the record www.voxpop45.com Also, the Voxpop45s show on Unity Radio is broadcast live over the Internet every Monday 6-8pm. Check out https://www.unityradio.co.uk or if you can¹t tune in at the time, you can listen to each show when it suits you in the audio section on the Voxpop45s website. cheers, derek

  13. It could be a bit like Eddie Stobbart spotting As daft as it sounds I used to shout out "there's an Eddie wagon" every time I used to see one during our night time travels on the M62. So much that a mate of mine (Big Mick) bought me a model of one. However when Dave came round my house he went mental. Being a big union man he told me Eddie Stobart had built his empire by transporting goods through the picket lines during all the miners strike. Ooops! Its abit like those 'orrible sherry decanters you got as a present from your mum that you keep in a cupboard and only get out when you know she's coming round. I have to put the Eddie wagon away when Dave comes a calling hehehe. derek
  14. Need to raise some £££ to pay for a new bathroom suite and its time for poor old Roosevelt Matthews to hit the road. Backed by Billy Ball & the Upsetters he sings "You got me diggin' you" and "Tighten up". King 6173 is the label and its a lovely yellow demo. Vinyl is Ex so is the label. Can post up a scan if needs be. I know its big ticket item (estimates seem to vary around the £500-700 mark) so I'm more than willing to consider cash and/or trades of well known quality northern originals to keep myself or to resell. Don't want to trade for unknowns/semi knowns at the moment. Contact me off list if interested and we'll see if we can work something out. thanks, derek
  15. A few months ago I spotted a bloke wearing an olive green short sleeved tee shirt with a logo saying soul. Mmm I thought pretty neat though a bit corny perhaps. Then over the course of the next few weeks I saw a few more including several at northern venues. So I stopped a lad in the street who was wearing one and asked him where he purchased it. Asda he replied. Being the snob I am my heart sunk. I shop at the super size Eastlands Asda next to the new Man City ground so the next time I was there I shot round the 'George at Asda' section. They'd all gone. However on Monday night after I'd got my weekly shop I noticed some new 'soul' logo tee shirts. See attached clip highlighting the best bits. Alright they were probably made by 12 year old girls in Thailand but they were only £4 each and great for work. Being the big hitter I am I bought 2 of course. derek
  16. I've got the Buddy Connor 45, infact played on the radio in Milan last weekend with Mark Bicknell. What nobodies mentioned yet is that its double sided with the same song on both sides. So we lose out on hearing those wonderful vocals of mister C on possibly another song. Perhaps there are copies of "WYA" around that have another song on the flip. Whats the flip on the WFB version? derek
