£127 who are these mentalists! Think I bought a copy off you last year or so for £20 which is all it should be worth. Anybody wanna give me £15 for a copy of yesterdays Daily Mirror hehe. derek
-
Yeah it is a great little track respected by many - whether its got enough mileage in it to become well known in the bigger clubs is anybodies guess. And shame on you Mister Onetrout for not mentioning the simply sensational 45 by Ollie Nightingale 'I don't know why I love you' which came out a few months later on Memphis 105. Now that is pure soul. derek What a great little label Memphis was - great colourful design. There must have been some money behind it as the company sleeves are quite plentiful.

Anthony Watson - I Can't Stop This Feeling (sro)
Derek Pearson replied to a topic in Look At Your Box
just realised I've got a double sided white demo by him of 'Solid love affair' on SRO 231 from 1984. The song you're on about is on the flip side of the issue which I'd be interested in hearing. I know this doesnt help at all..... derek -
Anybody fancy either of these 2? (Off list replies please to D.Pearson@bradford.ac.uk) Both in Ex nick. P&P extra. IKE NOBLE 'Its bad' (Alley) £50 (going rate seems to be about £70 for this awesome piece of deepness that you can dance to). VIVIAN COPELAND 'Chaos' (D'Oro) £60 labels reversed. onwards, derek

I'm thinking about selling my copy of Oliver Christian "Disatisfied man" on Legrand. Sorry unable to do Mp3's and all stuff. Its a tricky one to value as Manship rates it at £1000 due to the price he got selling it to a well known DJ, whilst Tim Brown's puts a measly £250 on it. Bit of a gap there methinks. If I get a decent offer either cash or part cash/part vinyl I'll let it go. Off list replies please to D.Pearson@bradford.ac.uk

Babs Mason'better Stop' Artic Wdj For Sale
Derek Pearson replied to Derek Pearson's topic in Record Sales
Didnt realise it would generate that much interest, knew it was a great tune but thought it was worth about £50. Checked both price guides JMs £50 & TBs 'low'. So decided to float it at £40. Some lucky person would have got it for that but Mister Trouble made me an offer I couldnt refuse. Phew luckily I hadnt agreed to sell it to anyone for £40 as I would have followed through and done the deal. Alternatively I could have withdrawn it and stuck it on Ebay but £75's fair enough. derek Think my own copy and this sale one are both vinyl 45s will post scan later. -
If anybodies interested I've a copy of Barbara Mason's "You better stop it" on a neat little Artic 154 WDJ for sale @ £40. Condition between VG++ and Ex-. P&P extra. Off list replies please. cheers, derek

Danny Moore 'Somebody new' Allrite for sale/trade. Bit of a long shot this really as I suspect most people that have wanted a copy have got them now because the price has dropped so much when the sizeable batch was found. Just got a copy in trades at the weekend, so its up for grabs at £75 and its in ex condition (arent they all hehe...). P&P extra. Off list replies please to D.Pearson@bradford.ac.uk derek tell you what though for such a great record, and it really is, why do we never hear it played anywhere anymore? I can't recall the last time I ever heard it can you? Obviously no prizes for naming the cover up artist.

I've often wondered whats the lowest feedback you can get on Ebay and still remain on list. I'm not talking about fraudsters who have been naughty and are awaiting expulsion I'm talking about people being incompetant, unorganised and/or just plain dumb. And now I've found the jewel I've long been waiting for. Sit by the sewer and eventually a turd will come along..for those who've time at work check this - https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...4067058909&rd=1 Starting bid $1,000,000 for over 30,000 records. Here's his description: "I have seriously collected over 30,00 records (LP's/45's/78's)since 1955. The collection covers every facet of recording - including old time radio shows/film sound tracks -- and rare Elvis 45's with original picture sleeves - but I could go on -- if interested - the price is 1 million dollars for 50 years of collecting. Also, most are in mint condition. I have sold items before and the buyers were overwhelmed regarding the condition of the records". The sellers been a member on Ebay for well over 2 years and has positive feedback of 33% and a feedback score of -1. The buyers can't have been that overwhelmed then eh? 4 days left and no bids - you collectors can be so tight, can't you see a bargain hehehe. derek

Got a copy of Sandy Wynn's "I'll give it to you" on a Simco WDJ for sale or possible trades if anybodies interested. I'd describe it as in VG nick but plays VG+. There's lots of fine surface marks but last time I played it I couldnt hear any pops or clicks. Perfectly OK for DJing purposes. Labels are Ex. Lets call it £125 ono. TB rates it at £215, JM says £250. Full refund if unhappy. Off list replies please to D.Pearson@bradford.ac.uk derek I'll be at Lowton with it tonight if anybody wants to have a look at it.
-
eh Joan how spooky we were virtually writing the same reply at the same time....... derek

It also got a release on UK red Atlantic but I'm told it was deleted after a week making it a pretty rare item though not that particularly valuable. Anybody seen/got a UK one, presume if they had they'd have already mentioned it. cheers, derek

Confession time - I've got literally hundreds of 45s in boxs marked 'To sort', records that I didn't honestly know what to do with. Hopeful buys from junk shops and car boots. Mad buys at venues from mates telling you "they're the next big thing" (yeah right). Crap sixties dancers, ballads that go no where, average records in VG nick, shit 70s with squeaky vocals. They probably should be worth £3-10 but where could I sell them? I don't want to drag them 'round venues and end up selling 3 for a tenner. Yes I suppose I could make a list and post them up here, that would save a lot of ballache. But I don't wanna waste people's time by sticking up dozens of things that aren't very good in my opinion. (Wish my judgement was good enough to stop me buying them in the first place laughs..). Its not worth dumping them in the local record store, you'd only get 10p each if you were lucky. Besides I'm too tight to do that hehe. And that's where the fun of Ebay come in I guess to a man like me that doesn't gamble. Will it sell won't it? Will it make a reasonable amount? Here's an example: I tried to flog ex condition copies of King Floyd and The Hearts Of Stone both on VIP about 12 months ago through Ebay, starting at $5 but got no bids. I trailed them around venues but nobody sniffed. So I stuck them on Ebay over Christmas starting at $2 and I know what the arguments are. Some would say the time and effort of scanning them, putting them up, selling them, all that emailing and finally posting them off aint worth the measily quid you might get back. I quietly overlook the fees (Ebay 35 cents per record plus 4% Paypal fees) which dents profits hehe. But that's where the gamble lies yes I'd like to get $6 for them but if they go for $2 I have to think oh well at least they've gone. If you add on say $2 postage my Paypal account swells (steady) by $4 for every record I sell. Fortunately I have a long lunch hour and work close to a post office so I can make time to pack them up. I might have paid a couple of dollars for the records years and years ago so I'm only getting back what I paid for them. I go back to time and effort again - what would I rather be doing? Pottering about selling records or watching shite TV like Big Brother. Alright no contest! The argument could be why don't I use my time efficiently selling more expensive items? The crazy thing about Ebay is I recently shifted 3 Midas records at $3, $3.25 & $5.50 a piece making the whopping total of $11.75 whereas 2 of the same records had earlier sold for $11.49 & $9.99 each totalling $21.48 - figure that out? Manships rates the 3 records I sold at £60 (coughs). Maybe I sell them too cheap? Start at $2 and some might think they're too cheap (but is that possible? I'd like to buy every record for a dollar!) I regularly see records that I've sold at $3 not selling at the starting bid of anywhere from $5-9. I'd rather under price and sell. To me selling these records is just one big game, I'm glad to get shut of them to be honest and clear some space. When I had a lot of time off over Christmas I could put all these things on the web. Has it paid off? Well I shifted 18 records for $83 and by the time I added on $27 on for postage $110 went into my paypal account. Richard Branson better watch out eh! £50 phew! I can use this to buy other records either to keep or resell. I pay for the postage out of my pocket so I don't miss the odd couple of quid here and there. Its all good fun I say and hopefully I'll just keep ticking away untill I empty these damn boxes. derek
