Derek Pearson Viaduct 10th Playlist 27 May
Derek Pearson replied to Derek Pearson's topic in All About the SOUL
aah Mark this is a bit embarrassing - think I've got a mental block with Alan's surname (it must be mi age hehe). Texted Alan Barnes last Friday to ask for directions to the Viaduct then saved his number under the name of Alan Pollard. When he rang me back I called him Mister Pollard which resulted in much apologies from me....Then I go and do it again on here. Sorry Alan B. derek -
Following on from my comments and playlist re Bury Town Hall 17 April here's what I played at the Viaduct 10th Anniversary bash last Friday 27 May. Played 9 records at the Viaduct that I'd previously played at Bury - Mighty Marvelows, Dickie Wonder, Admirations, Metroes, Jesse Johnson, Four Tracks, Moses Dillard, JJ Barnes & Four Tops plus these - can't recall the order Darrow Fletcher 'My young misery' Groovy; Tony Hestor 'Watch yourself' Karate; Shirley Lawson 'One more chance' Backbeat; Deletts 'Look at me' Bluerock; Jackie Wilson 'Ive lost you' Brunswick; Johnny Robinson 'Gone but not forgotten' Okeh; Marjorie Black 'One more hurt' Sue; Ellusions 'You didnt have to leave' Lamon; Caressors 'I cant stay away' Rujac; Gambrells 'You better move' Carla; Kenny Carlton 'Lost and found' Bluerock; Vanguards 'Good times' Lamp; Bernard Williams 'Focused on you' Harthon; Nat Hall 'Why' Loop; Robert Parker 'Caught you in a lie' Nola. A most enjoyable set I thought. Phew that room was hot hot hot. Respects to Alan Pollard for steering the ship for 10 years, he's moving on but the club will still keep going. I wish them well. keep it 45, derek

Seem to think, not the last Lifeline allnighter but the one before, I was stood chatting at the bar to Mick H when the Eric Lomax c/up came on. He said that Butch had just found another copy but it was on a different label. Guess it sounds plausible anybody know? And no I don't know the real identity of the said 45. derek Also it is possible Mick H was wrong and I/we both heard it wrong and I've got it mixed up....

flogged a copy on Mica at the Stoke Stafford bash a few weeks ago for £40. Presume they're all golden issues anybody seen a DJ copy? derek
-
Its my sweeties birthday coming up in June and I want to get her a copy of "Let me love you" by Claussell on 12". Can't recall label and yes I know it came out on 7" but they're even harder to get. The twelves used to be about £40/50 but could be double that these days. Cash waiting (obviously depending on the price), might trade some northern for it. Fraser Dunn don't read this (in joke). cheers, derek If all else fails could anybody CD-R it for me please - don't worry she won't play it out in a club.

what a great record this is - think its on Spiders Web or something? My ears tell me it blends perfectly into or after Teddy P's "Believe in love". Bought my copy off Big Deannie for £25 mid 90s - about a week later he got his copy nicked and tried to buy my copy back. Of course I refused oh how we did laugh hehe. derek Listen to the record carefully has he got a slight lisp somewhere or does he sing way off key in one part? I say that because last time I listened to it I did think 'aah thats where we went wrong'.....

and suprisingly quite hard to find on US Curtom, have seen a few copies recently for £20-25. Most Brits have only seen it on UK release. And what a great track it is - played it at Brighouse Ritz last November to good response. People seem to have forgotten just how good/great this track is. derek

seem to think I saw a Vanguards in Butch's sales box at the last Lifeline a few weeks ago. Don't quote me on it as it was late. ..... derek

Derek Pearson Bury 15/4/05 Playlist
Derek Pearson replied to Derek Pearson's topic in All About the SOUL
thats true I did give Mick a list of records I didnt want him to play before me in the style of an ex Blackpool DJ. Ouch! derek -
You know it's a weird thing posting up playlists - those that want to nobble might say its all about showing off or bragging about what you got. Friends might say you're being informative and helpful. Many like to see what others are playing as it gives them an insight, ideas and inspiration. However it leaves you wide open to criticism as some will say the set was too safe and not adventurous enough. People can also compare your sets with previous ones to see if or how your playlists have or have not changed. Remember DJing isnt all about beer and skittles, more often than not its putdowns that come your way rather than praise. Given the number of DJs on here it's easy to see why more playlists aren't posted up more often. I mean why leave your self wide open to attack and abuse? But hey if you're gobby enough to be a DJ I'm gobby enough to post up my recent playlists. Besides I'm old enough and ugly enough to take it hehe A mixture of over played rarities and underplayed cheapies - 23 in total Bury Town Hall playlist Fri 17 April 05 Jesse Johnson 'Left out' (Old Town); JJ Barnes 'Please let me in' (Ric Tic); Peoples Choice 'Saving all of my loving' (Palmer); Metroes 'Since I found my baby' (RCA); Tommy Neal 'Going to a happening' (Pameline); Larry Davies 'Hurt so many times' (Kent) Tobi Lark 'Sweep it out in the shed' (Topper); Just Bros 'Carleana' (Garrison); Van Dykes 'Saving my love' (Mala); Bobby Willaims 'Only got myself to blame' (Sureshot); Leon Haywood 'Baby reconsider' (Fat Fish); Jackie Wilson 'You brought about a change' (Brunswick); Celeste Hardie 'You're gone' (Reynolds); John Edwards 'How can I go on' (UK Kent 12"); Four Tops 'Can't seem to get you out' (UK TMG); Four Tracks 'Like my love for you' (Mandingo); Al Kent 'Way you been acting lately' (Ric Tic); Temptations 'Come on back to me' (unissued); Admirations 'You left me' (Peaches); Dickie Wonder 'Nobody knows' (Sound Of Soul) Danny Woods 'You had me fooled' (Correctone); Moses Dillard 'Pay the price' (Mark IV); Mighty Marvellows 'Talking 'bout you baby' (ABC). cheers, derek

Last week I got a copy of Joe Frazier's "First round knockout" on Motown in a trade. Think it was a late Wigan sound and when I played it again it was so very evocative of that period, fluffy white towelling socks, swirling spencers and polyveldts. Originally released in 1975 it hasnt aged well, Joe was a major boxer but a singer he aint. Bet you didnt know it was written by Van McCoy! £12 and its yours. VG+ P&P extra. cheers, derek

Has nobody got one for sale please i,ll resort to begging this is the record you're after Paul - RCA 47-8228 released in 1963 so the book says. Not sure what the value is, saw it on a list last week (Phil K's) at £120 don't know if he sold it at that phew! Email me off list with an offer. cheers, derek oh and its mint

Hey up Trev - must confess its one record Ive never liked - its that spongey bouncy white northern beachy type sound that turns me off. There I've said it go straight to Rome! Luckily for me I got hold of 4 copies whilst in Alabama mid 90s and sold them all off asap. Think I flogged one to Pat Brady for £250 and he probably shifted it off for £500. Touted the others around at the Grifffin allnighters in Leeds. Its all good fun innit, derek The label Norala stands for North Alabama.
-
Its one of those records thats good without being brilliant, seem to think there's a couple of dodgy moments in it somewhere thats lets it down..... Would agree with Les' valuation of it and yes I've seen it with a picture cover seem to think it was more like a black & white shot of a black mans head (possibly Chicago Pete's?) derek

The Jamaican Glen Miller release is on STAG, a beautiful purple label with cool white logo. and here it is -
