Incredibles - Crying Heart - AUDIO ARTS - M- - £10 (classy mid-tempo dancer) Hey up Sebastian - only realised recently that I had this great tune twice on Audio Arts but with different flip sides, "I can't get over losing your love" (701) and "I'll make it easy" (60001). And now here's the really interesting bit - the mixes are slightly different, its not untill you play them one after the other that you can hear the difference. One is slightly faster whilst the other is a much more sparse hollow mix with the vocals to the fore. Much prefer the latter one and please don't ask which is which as I'm at work now....onwards, derek

and what a flip it is "I'll be gone" superior group ballad indeedy. Yes I know its sad, I should get some friends, I'm shit at football and I've got no sex life but this 45 is one of my few claims to fame. Years ago in a rare moment of clarity I thought of a great question which as far as I recall at the time nobody answered it correctly. God it makes me feel so clever and smug. And I have to tell you this again to inflate my lack of self esteem.....It went something like this - "what record came out twice on the same label yet a one letter change on the flip side alters its price ten times". Is that neat or what eh......... onwards, derek think it was mister nice guy Bob Hinsley who I first heard playing "Lazy". Good man.

Didnt Adam Leaver advertise one for sale (or was it offers) in the 'sales' section a few days ago? Havent checked to see if this is correct so I might be muddled up. cheers, derek

Not being funny Rich but phew shifting a few thoussand 12's via Gemm is gonna take you a long long time. I mean even if you stuck 10 a day on Gemm, call it 100 a week it would still take you at that rate 10-20 weeks just to list them all. Then you gotta pack them all up and mail the buggers. What you gonna do with the ones that don't sell? Is there a demand for the stuff you've got? I mean are you looking at a fiver plus each? Obviously they're your records and its your time an effort - good luck. I know a mate of mine had approx a 1000 late 80s to early 90s Chicago house 12's, he collected full label runs of all of those tiny little indies. Legend has it he was buying the only copy that was imported into Bradford at the time. Nobody else was obsessively buying up all the flop releases. Anyway he was wanting to shift them all off in one go about mid 90s and asked if I could help. That big shop in Birmingham (forget the name now) offered him a straight grand for them. He was disgusted - what a quid each? - he was thinking more like a fiver each ie five grand. I said yeah but where else you gonna shift them all in one go, that grand would get you two a nice holiday. He declined their offer and the records are still gathering dust in his spare room. Its just a thought, derek

for those of a yorkshire nature Beatin' Rhythm in Manchester has some funky red plastic dome middles at (wait for it...) 50p each. Being the big hitter that I am I bought 2 naturally. cheers, derek

Hey up Chris - seem to think Des Toussaint from London had a copy of the Bobby Thurston Mainline LP for sale at the Blackpool Hilton weekender early January. Don't know price or condition. 2 killer cuts on it, one dancer one ballad but you know that already hehehe. See ya, derek stick his name in any search engine and it'll throw up his website details I'm sure.
-
Yeah just to follow up what Johnny said earlier - Andy Simpson top bloke used to live just a few miles away from me when I still lived in Bradford. Read any mid 70s fanzine and his name often crops up as a top dancer or big collector. Was a big Mecca boy and friend of Ian Levine. 'Ronnie from Oldham' - always used to see him at the Manchester Ritz allnighters throughout the late 90s, then at Prestwich. Havent seen him recently. Have got loads of names scratched on run out grooves as far as I recall, next time I'm rummaging I'll look for some. onwards, derek

I'm no good at these things and I was really shocked to learn of LJ's death - blimey I was only talking to him at the Wilton last november! He'd been after a record for years that I'd taped for him and I didnt know he was still chasing it. Had a spare in my sales box that I'd just sold earlier that night oops! He was always pestering me to sell him 2 records out of my collection (good man). Struth, its only a few weeks ago that he rang me to play some records down the phone. We would've had numerous chats at the forthcoming Wilton - hell he won't be there! If Boxy/Mouse is reading this can we have a minutes silence or something in rememberance at the wilton on the 20th? derek

Anybody got a current email addy for Andy Whitmore they could pass onto me off list please. I havent had any replies on the one I'm using - yeah I know he might not actually want to reply to me hehe. cheers, derek

Antwans "Aint no love/You got that right" (Snawtna 1001) Somebody on here was after this record recently and decided to dig my copy out to see what it sounded like. Had forgotten how minimal the label details were with no song writer, producer, arranger credits at all. Check the scan which I've lifted from a previous Ebay sale as my copy's not to hand. Being the grammar school boy I am I also realised the name of the label was the name of the group spelt backwords! "Aint no love" is just an ok song nothing special but quite catchy. The Ebay description says "HARD TO GET NORTHERN SOUL - VERSION of EDDIE FLOYD or (also sung by SAMMY ACUNA, KENNY HAMBER)". Being a bit dumb here but which side are they refering to? onwards, derek

Either PM me or contact me off list please (D.Pearson@bradford.ac.uk). P&P extra. Contact me if you need any more details re track listings etc. If you think my pricing's out make me an offer. Just having an enjoyable afternoon wading my way through mountains of old paper notes and scribblings, stuff I could've and should've used for previous copies of Shades Of Soul. The initial pile was over a yard high and I'm so pleased I've thinned it down to a foot. In the background I'm listening to Keb Darge story tell his way through the 3 part Ducktape interviews. If he was fined a penny for every time he swore he'd probably pay off all of Africa's national debt..Hark at me - swearing it shouldn't be allowed - said in my best Les Dawson busty women voice hehehe. I digress, came across a crumpled piece of paper with the words - find/investigate/listen Jack Hammer "Ode to a discotheque" UK Polydor v.rare speak to Mick Smith - never did follow it up! Now I'm curious whats it like? Pete Smith walks through the door and says...

To be honest I've never really kept up with British stuff and I seem to think both of these 45s have had wildly different selling prices over the last year or so? So can anybody help out with guesstimates (not keen on that word but it does the job...) Lou Ragland "Since you said you'd be mine" (UK Warner Bros); Ernie & Ed "Indication/Beautiful people" (UK Jay Boy). Might be tempted to flog both for extra Christmas cash.. derek

Anybody fancy this for a little Christmas present? The Complete Stax/Volt soul singles Vol 2 1968-1971, 9 CD box set (9SCD-4411-2) released by Stax in 1993. It features all 216 soul singles issued by Stax/Volt during that time and includes a sumptious 60 page booklet written by Rob Bowman packed full of pictures. The outer box, CDs & inner box are all in Ex condition. Long since deleted its now commercially unavailable. Seem to think it was priced around the £100 mark on its release. Too many tracks to list here but contact me off list for more details if needs be. Will take offers around £50-60 if interested. P&P costs extra - might be quite expensive because of the weight, Parcelforce UK delivery for a similar box sold on Ebay recently was quoted at £6. cheers, derek

Don't Think I'd Risk Incurring His Wrath
Derek Pearson replied to Pete S's topic in Look At Your Box
Have never had any dealings with this Bob Ellis aka The Count chappie but I have had dealings with Mr Harris in the past. Don't know if I mentioned it on here or Soul Talk but I won something like a $5 single off him and he wanted $9 (or something excessive) for P&P. When the record arrived it was sandwiched between two 78rpm records, well it would have been it they hadn't shattered into hundreds of tiny pieces inside the packaging. Luckily the record I'd bought wasn't damaged. I complained to him and got no reply. This was the last time I ever dealt with him. Prior to this I'd bought another record off him and seem to recall he wasn't accepting paypal or something so I told him I'd be sending US dollar cash within the next few days. 3 days later he contacted ebay over my non payment of the record. I wasn't amused and complained to him straight away once again I got no reply. Check his feedback if you've got a spare hour it makes for interesting reading. derek
