  1. thats so heartless Anderson - getting little kids to work for you for nothing - that must be illegal hehehe. Damn funny though! derek
  2. Hi Miles - think I paid £50 (possibly?) off Paul Mc back end of the 90s. So a fiver is a damn fine result. You should give the £45 you saved to charity hehehe. Didnt realise "Gonna forget" was a Womack song and to be honest I've no idea what it sounds like (shame). Actually bought the record for the flip "Don't look back" which is a Temptations song I believe. Homework for the weekend - play both sides of this 45. derek Don't think I've ever heard anybody talk about this 45 before. And I figured out - all on my own - that because of the label name, it was either his own label or part owned.
  3. Was gonna stick this 45 on Ebay this week 'cos I hadn't played it in ages and couldn't remember why I kept it. On playing a minute of 'No hope' I thought "messy, going nowhere, £20 tops, Ebay". However on hearing 'Im gonna win' I thought "Mmm good but just missing something. Could've been much better (sounds like my school report). Worth keeping I guess". Surely no where near a £50-75 touch? Its the Earles Inc 45 on Zudan 5017 that you all need "Just an Illusion" now that is a real nice sound. derek will post up scans tonight of both 45s if I remember before Lowton starts calling my name.
  4. What a great song well sung by mister mancha - have always loved the Mad Lads version released in 1972 on Volt 4080 as well. derek
  5. Hey up Kirsty, I could never forget you and your little sister's visits to my little abode. "It wasn't a house it was a record box with a bed in it" as Chris Holmes once said to me. Been meaning to reply to several of your previous posts but forgetfulness and a lack of time overtook me on the inside lane. Had a flick through your photo gallery (mid 90s) and it made me think "right I've pissballed about long enough thinking about posting up some old photos get it done Pearson". Expect me to start posting some up soon(ish). Our paths do cross at the Wilton so you're never far from my memory however the 2 lads I mentioned I never see any more. And yeah it was Derek T that was deaf in one ear - I'd forgotten about that - and he used to wear those heavily beaded caps that looked a bit like prayer caps. Chuddy used to wear one as well. Hey up Sue - hows it going? I remember coming up to your house in Thorpe Edge on mi motor bike late 70s/early 80s, you were knitting me a petrol blue mohair jumper, remember? I wonder if I've got an old photo of me wearing it tucked away somewhere? take care, derek Tony Smith - I often think about our trips over to Valencia late 90s - actually found an old spare flyer from those days shall I mail you it? Hey up Trevski - bloody hell the Walls Brothers - had some mad times with Alan when he used to come down to the Bradford Queens Hall allnighters early 90s. Recall trips up to Allanton as well (I think?) Recall Jimmy The Hat from the Leeds Griffin all-nighters mid 90's as well - I also heard he'd passed on. Memories are great if you can remember them. Photographs are better. derek
  6. Hey up Sue B I thought that looked like you. How's it going? derek
  7. Following on from the "Where's Derek Riches" thread: You can say what you want and yes I know we're all joined by the common love of music (is that hippie talk?) but if you aint got good people around you things aint happening. Somebody said to me recently "that as we got older, good people that we used to enjoy hanging out with, don't go out any more". I knew what she meant. Here's 2 lads I used to hang out with throughout the 90s at places like Keele & Tony's - great lads with great taste in music always willing to swop tapes. Always hustling buying and selling records. I could and would stand next to them for hours droning on about all things vinyl. There must be lots of others but I think about these 2 quite often. The curtain opened and down the stairs walked Derek Thompson from Bristol and Rob Bullock from Birmingham. Thats not to say I don't greatly enjoy hanging out with the people I currently mix with. I feel a song coming on. derek
  8. Well done John V for creating maximum interest in a recent purchase thats the way to do it. Sadly Len's hype doesnt match up to DC's offering. Now that is a rock solid northern classic no arguements. Never actually owned a copy myself so that must say something. What number is it in Kev's Top 500 book? Stevie Z - see Shades #31 for article on Lou Johnson & his album. Tony Rounce - love reading your memories of the early days & the Mecca. its all good fun innit - derek
  9. Seem to think I've pondered on this question for years and never got a satisfactory answer. Is the 77 release exactly the same as the Impel one, was told the first release is slightly slower? Or is it just allnighter record bar bollocks. And what a truly truly great record is! Sadly I don't think I'll ever own an Impel copy - would love to - but could never justify lashing out that kinda money for a copy when I can get a 77 orig for so much less. Oh well. onwards, derek
  10. Anybody got a copy of the 'Rare Stamps' JJ Barnes Steve Mancha album for sale or trade please. Vinyl must be at least Ex. Don't mind if its either US Volt or UK Stax. Are we talking £30 these days? Let me know condition & price. Off list replies please to D.Pearson@bradford.ac.uk cheers, derek
  11. I'm a bit pissed off that Dan and In Town Mikey beat me to it with their replies of "Ear muffs" ! Aint you lads got work to do? Andy D - that Frank Foster is one helluva beast of a tune. Also recall Guy DJing at a Manchester Ritz allnighter (circa mid 90s) opening with "Michigan Move" - I was seen cartwheeling across the dance floor, perspiring heavily whilst grinning stupidly. Mmm good job video mobile phones weren't invented then eh or else I'd have been on youtube by now. All night instrumentals - just say no - so far we've had less than an hours worth flagged up. Rose Batiste sure kicks bottom in our house. onwards, derek
  12. Saw a US copy in Henry Atkinson's box at the weekend for £100. My copies got a date stamp on it which because of the lyrical content of the song makes me believe it came out just after some of the inner city riots kicked off throughout the states. Just a thought, derek
  13. Hi Dan - I'm also after a copy of the rather wonderful "Sold on you" but I can wait untill I come across it. Check Anglo American's website I'm sure I saw a copy on there this morning for £25. cheers, derek
  14. there's an article on the Musette label in Dave Rimmer's latest edition of 'Soulful Kinda Music'. derek always fancied doing that label in 'Shades Of Soul' and he's beat me to it (laughs)
  15. I've been a long time bone fida obsessive Chalky and I admit to having collected flyers for well over 25 years. Let me have a rummage around over the weekend and I'll see what I can pull out of the hat. cheers, derek
  16. Yeah I know its down to peoples choices how they spend their hard earned an' all that - but £175* for a pretty average UK only 45 - I mean come on! How about this for a game then - what rock solid 100% US original northern 45s could you buy for that amount? At least 2 x Danny Moores on Alrite or a Doug Banks Argo + a Danny Moore. Probably get a Van Dykes on Mala or maybe both Linda Jones's with a bit of argueing hehehe. Can't think of others at the moment there must be tons.Oh well. derek (*thats what a copy went for on Ebay recently) It'll be interesting to see what the next few copies go for on Ebay as there'll surely be lotsa people floating their copies as a result of this recent sale.
  17. Anybody on here got a contact for Killer from Stockport (landline/moby/email)? Traded him a record at the last Middleton allnighter and said I might be able to track down one of his wants. He gave me his number and thought I'd put it somewhere safe - oops. Presume he'll be going to the Twisted Wheel tonight and wanna speak to him first as I think one of his wants is calling his name. cheers, derek offlist replies please - ask him to contact me first if we wants to.
  18. Yeah I always thought "BTY" was only on her UK London 45 as flip to "Look at the boy". I'd only ever seen or heard of "LATB" as double sided demos on US Hi. Though I seem to think Butch turned up a handful of "LATB" Hi issues a few years ago which he shifted at £40 a throw, when asked he couldnt recall what the flip was. So it was always sort of assumed that "BTY" would be on the flip of a US issue - so now we know cheers Colin. Re Quiet Elegance yeah the double sider mentioned is very good indeed but the choice tune is "Love will make you feel better" on Hi 2263. Gasp shock collector alert - on my Hi 2290 demo copy the label says "Love will make you feel better" but plays "Will you be my man". Ah the wonderful world of vinyl, derek Oh and how can we talk about Hi without mentioning James Fry "Still around", Bobby McClure "Was it something I said" & the mighty Masqueraders "Now that Ive found you".
  19. Up for grabs: Steve Mancha "Friday night / Monday through Thursday" Groovesville 1004 REDUCED IN PRICE Mmm bit tricky to grade, lots of light scuffs, couple of pops, plays fine, definately VG+. Both JM & TB 2003/4 guides rate a minter @ £300. Lets call it £225. Money back if not totally happy. Lower offers considered. Star-Treks "Gonna need magic" Veep 1254 WDJ mint £125 SOLD. TB £75 JM £50 2003/4 guides - demand & price has gone up alot since then. Squires "Don't accuse me" Gee WDJ mint £100. TB £150 JM £100 2003/4 guides All enquiries, questions off list please to D.Pearson@bradford.ac.uk P&P extra insurance recommended. UK buyers can pay by UK cheque. Paypal is fine but because of the high vinyl cost buyers must pay the 3-4% paypal fee I incur. Overseas buyers must pay by paypal. Keep it 45, derek
  20. phew George think you'll be lucky to get hold of any photos of the above groups -here's a clip of a Precisions photo I nearly bought recently. Sorry its so small but thats all I got. derek
  21. Ah yes but what about that alternative version of a Deon Jackson Carla song tucked away on the B side of his UK Contemporaries 45. As is standard practise I can't recall the exact details - song title etc, seem to think this version has added girls and a different intro. I'm sure somebody will post up the correct details and help an old burn out. And whats worse is after all these years I still don't think I've actually ever heard this different mix. Can anybody post up a soundfile please? cheers, derek
  22. Does anybody know why there's been a steep increase in the number of soul 45s for sale on Ebay? Up untill a few months ago if I went through the Records To Buy section untill I'd got down to 'Ending today soul 45rpm 7"' there'd be anywhere from 400-700 in the frame. I could crack through them in half hour and still have time for a sandwich at dinnertime. Now there's up to 35 pages ie 1500+ records? Is it because Ebay has merged all the auctions from each different country together, previously they were seperate and bargains could be acquired from the French, Italian & Spanish sites so I'm told. Is it because Ebay has those 'list everything today for 5/10p' offers which encourages more people to list stuff? Anybody else noticed this? cheers, derek
  23. First heard this maybe 2-3 weeks ago on The Rev FM out of the ghetto they call Oldham. Liked it immediately. DJ said they were playing it off a download. Not often I feel compelled to buy a chart record but this makes me wanna. Peace or summat, derek
  24. been meaning to join in with this thread for a week or so now - sorry - I've got this record as well but its in such poor nick I rarely play it, I just keep it for completists sake. Found it on the floor of a garage whilst rummaging for vinyl in Philadelphia mid 90s. Gotta be damn obscure but can't see it being worth that much - who knows? Like you say "Madness" is the better side. The only other record on the label thats talked about is the Butlers "Laugh laugh laugh" on PH1836, the Jean Wells release is PH1835. Of course there might be other releases out there on the label waiting to be discovered. cheers, derek
  25. Anybody want/need any of these? All M/Ex condition. P&P extra. Paypal is fine. Off list replies please email D.Pearson@bradford.ac.uk or PM me. cheers, derek Dells "Run for cover" Cadet £40; Reuben Howell "Can't stop a man in love" Motown WDJ £40; George Perkins "I'm so glad you're mine" Royal Shield £40; Jackie Day "Whats the cost" Speciality £25; Carla Thomas "Never stop loving you" Horaces £25; Debra Johnson "To get love you gotta" 100 Club Anniv £20; Butlers "Laugh laugh laugh" Phil La £25; Jimmy Richards "I'm not responsible" A&M WDJ £30; Magnificent Seven "Never will I" Dial £25.
