Collector Mike Godfrey From Corby Northants
Derek Pearson replied to macca's topic in All About the SOUL
I remember Mike buying and selling records from the Bradford Queens Hall all-nighters late 80s/early 90s period (I think). Great lad - pretty certain he offered me a John & The Weirdest on Tie for £90 and I coughed. Wanted a copy but couldn't afford that. Hey it's only vinyl..... derek -
Consortium Xmas Special Studio Video - Familar Faces And Voices
Derek Pearson replied to Mike's topic in All About the SOUL
thought it looked like Dave Rimmer and John Weston on the right of the picture and when I heard the voice talking about the Miracles it confirmed it was JW. Bloody hell Brian Goucher with a moustache talking about Betty Everett. Top clip will watch it fully through later - well done to the man that posted it up! onwards, derek a mad guess - but was it filmed at the Pirate Radio station in the Birmingham area that those lads guested on? The year 1992 would fit in with that nicely. Revised edit - looks like Dave Rimmer and I were replying at the same time hehe -
have got a copy Tone and if I remember and have time tonight when I get in from Asda I'll scan and post it up. cheers, derek

Derek Pearson replied to Derek Pearson's topic in Record Sales
miranda says she'll take £60 on this if anybodies interested. Derek says now that is a bargain! cheers, derek -
Always quite liked World Column's "So is the sun" in a mental sorta late 70s all-nighter kinda style but never liked it that much to actually purchase a copy. Then I reads that the flip side of this tune is regarded as a deep soul classic. Mmm now I am intrigued/curious etc etc - anybody got an opinion or can anybody post up an mp3 please? derek

Over the last week or so I've had 3 emails purporting to be from Ebay members all saying roughly the same thing: "Let me know your best price on this item - I'm online now and can pay you straight away". Well thats strange 'cos I aint got nothing for sale on Ebay at the moment. So when you press the "respond now" button it asks you to log into Ebay - and once again I don't need to remind you all thats what they're after - your log in details. It's a virtual copy of an ebay page with the laughable line " Ebay sent this message on behalf of an ebay member sent through 'my messages' ". Of course if you open up Ebay through its home page there's no sight of the above message anywhere. I suppose if you're selling loads of items or you're in a mad rush or careless why would you immediately open their link without firstly checking the item number they give to see if it cross checks with anything you're selling? It's the old time honoured lure of a sale quick quick I can pay you now. I'm sure some people must get bored of being constantly warned of bogus ebay happenings bit like government campaigns to always wash your hands after you've been to the toilet and don't forget to fasten your seat belt. Oh well. derek

Mmm now I know this might seem a bit off but here's some 45s out of my collection that to be honest I don't want to sell. And here's the "off" bit - I've written this list at work so havent had time or chance to research the prices I want for them. Aint gonna sell any of them cheap so they'll all be about book price or whatever I'm happy with. Thought I'd post them up and if anybodies really interested they can contact me off list (D.Pearson@bradford.ac.uk). Just bought a few quite expensive 45s and need to raise some money to lift up my bank account. Its doubtfull I'll be dragging these 45s around venues either. See what you think - all are in Ex nick unless stated. cheers, derek Moses Smith Cotillion; Gene Barbour Hit; Paul Smith "Run" Jacklyn; Kirk Taylor KT&Co; Paul Sindab Kasika; Classic Sullivans Masterkey; Marvin Smith Mayfield; King Diamond Powerhouse; Ghetto Children Roulette; Electryfying Cashmeres Sound Stage 7; Verble Domino Toi; Ronnie McNeir Tortoise; JB Bingham or Checkmates "Telephone"; Idris Muhammad Prestige; Stratoliners Federal; Marion Love Capitol; Heartstoppers LP All Platinum; Tommorrows Men Congress VG- (I know I shouldnt but I) might even take trades once I've got the required amount of cash.

I DJ'd at the Prestwich Anniversary a week last Friday and for anybody thats been there they'll know thats an exceedingly large dance floor to move. The 3 records that gave me the most pleasure to play were three I personally havent heard played out for a long long time. Fair enough I don't stop out right to the end of all-nighters these days and I'm not bombing up and down the country like I used to. Maybe it was played and I was trapped in the toilet by some stranger who wanted to be my best friend. Or I might have been that pissed I'd forgotten the name of my mother. None of them are hideously rare or expensive but thats the fun of DJing isnt it - trying to blend in records into your set that people have forgotten about? Maybe I was cheating and being lazy because none of them are unknowns, all three have had some/alot of plays over the years so I'm an easy target to shoot at. Spinners "She's gonna love me at sundown" (VIP); J.J.Barnes "Sweet sherry" (UK. Stax) LP; The Monitors "Share a little love" (Soul) LP. All 3 held the floor and cheered me up no end. Time to walk the dog, derek Was telling Robbo about my 3 choices and he said he always plays the Monitors track - its all good fun innit.

sounds very much like Mike Warburton to me - used to see him down the 100 Club all the time during the mid 90s. derek

Aha its all become clear now. I'm trying to put together a discography of our Patience's work and the Real Soul 45 was on a discog that an American collector had sent me. He'd marked it as a 70s release and because I like her voice/style I was intrigued to hear and find out more about this "interesting" record. Only to find out it was really Edie in disguise, damn imagine how pissed off I'd have been if I'd have bought a copy hehehe. Did you know: She recorded "If you don't come" on Sar in 1961 and was in a group called The Flares in 1962. "Our love" is an awesome slowie Mark. "Waking up to a dream" on Thrush is a nice 45 to have stashed away in the boxes. onwards, derek
