Al Wilson "I've got a feeling / Be concerned" (Playboy 6062) released 1976 Whilst rummaging in a forgotten box of sales stuff a few days ago I came across 3 styrene issue copies of this record all mint unplayed. Listen to the soundclip of this lovely mid seventies floater and think of summer. Only the issues have the socially conscious "Be concerned" on the flip -search Refosoul for sound file. Also found 1 double sided vinyl promo copy of "I've got a feeling" only VG+ though. So issues are £5 and the DJ is £4 + postage £1 UK, £1-20 Europe. Payment by chq,PO or Paypal + 4% (to D.Pearson@bradford.ac.uk). Off list reples please PM or email. Thanks, derek

Ever since hearing Roger Banks play Brook Benton's rather wonderful "Where does a man go to cry" on RCA I've kept an eye out for other RCA cuts by Mister Benton. Mmmm sadly most of the ones I've come across have been forgettable middle of the road ballad type things. Then I came across this little tune and thought that's not too bad in a sorta beat ballad stylee. Whilst rummaging in a forgotten box of sales stuff a few days ago I located 3 black issues and 1 white demo, all mint. So issues are £5 and the WDJ is £8 + postage £1 UK, £1-20p Europe. Payment by chq,PO or Paypal + 4% (to D.Pearson@bradford.ac.uk). Off list reples please PM or email. Thanks, derek

After we had to get our last cat (called Spider aka Spiddy) put down we went to our local rescue centre to chose another asap. Understandably most of the cats in there were nervous, withdrawn and frightened, virtually all of them backed away from us apart from one. This dusty blonde ginger tom stomped up to the door saying choose me choose me, trouble was he still had his conkers and sprayed everywhere and it stunk. Perhaps that's why he was still there? But Miranda went back on the Friday night and picked him up whilst I went to the Wilton allnighter. I rang home at midnight to find her watching the tele with the cat sat on her shoulder and our dog Meg sat next to her on the floor. Knowing that one of Miranda's favourite singers is Marvin Gaye I am positive to this day that I suggested calling the cat Marvin but Miranda still claims she thought of it. Anyway along the way his name got shortened to Marvo and his conkers went in the bin. derek

Some of you may recall a thread I posted earlier this year about the UK street soul TSR label - well maybe not due to response it generated (laughs)... /index.php?showtopic=42410&st=0&gopid=475844entry475844 After a bit of web surfing I came across this rather interesting book 'BRIT FUNK - The History Of British Soul Music' By Andrew Robert Heskins. Originally released in 1993, a special edition was re-released in 1999. A quick search on UK Amazon revealed no copies however it looks like you can download it as a pdf file here www.wholecircleround.co.uk/discovision/spins/britfunk.pdf Onwards, derek

Hey up Sean - meant to mention this a few months ago but forgot. At the Middleton allnighter last January Soul Sam played me on a portable a 7" by Shorty Billups "Shake off that dream" on Solid Gold Records. Mmmm never seen it by that name before I knew the various releases of this song by Eddie Billups had been dissected on here many times in the past so I put a search on it and trawled through the results. In this thread there's no mention of this song as being released by Shorty Billups, so does that mean Eddie and Shorty are in reality the same person? However on the wonderful flip of his 77 single "Try something new" Eddie namechecks a Shorty Billups so is he/she a brother/sister or some other family member? So what I'm trying to say was - was "Shake off that dream" released twice then on Solid Gold once as by Eddie Billups and the other as Shorty Billups? Vinyl eh tut! derek I think a library of label scans would help

I got the UK 45 first and when I picked up the American album which included said track I was quite suprised (and a little bit excited if I'm honest....) to discover the LP cut seemed much smoother and less beefy (if that makes any sense). So does that mean the northern DJ's who first played the track way back on its release did so as an album cut? And then due to demand it was released in the UK as a single. Still a great great track. derek

Yeah still want it Jason. To be honest I thought - Emotions 45 on Volt - bah I'll soon track one of them down (coughs). Note this thread was started on February 20th and I still havent tracked a copy down in Ex/M nick. Seen a couple at VG+ or less but decided not to gamble on them.
