  2. What a dick! I goes to all the trouble of adding soundclips to try and help the sales without realising I hadn't included the words "all with soundclips" in the thread title. Damn! Damn! Damn! There isn't a way to add those 3 little words is there moderators? Bolloxs! derek

  4. blimey Garnett Mimms thats spooky Sean! Seem to recall buying "Looking for you" on British for a tenner at a Rotheram 'School Of Dancing' all-nighter in March 1980* and thinking "I was in the big league now" hehe. derek Friday 21st March to be exact.
  5. Thanks for everybodies replies & PMs - Whippet; Mo; Gasher & Barry - the address given rings a bell now! Mags been posted so we're back in business, tagged on all the above peoples comments in a letter to him. Will ring Geoff to apologise. onwards, derek
  6. I've known Geoff since the late 80s when we all used to get together for the allnighters at Placemate 7 (aka Twisted Wheel) in Manchester run by Tim Ashibende I think. Geoff also wrote several interesting articles which I printed in various issues of 'Shades Of Soul' over the years. Didn't seem to see much of the man from Warrington throughout the early part of the 2000's however recently our paths have started crossing again at the monthly Lowton do's and it's nice to catch up with an old buddy. At the April Lowton he gave me some money to mail him a copy of Shades #32 and because I'd sent him some other things a month or so earlier I thought no probs. Trouble is I've looked high and low and can't find where I'd written his address down. So I rings the number I've got for him in my telephone book and it's no longer recognised- damn! Can anybody pass on his land line, mobile or mailing address please off list please. cheers, derek So why don't I wait till the next Lowton on Friday 11th May? Cos sadly I ain't going and I do feel a bit of a heel for taking so long to mail him the mag.
  7. I note the bidding has sorta never got past $20 with 2 days to go - even after all that's been said I wonder if there's anybody on here gonna put in a quiet bid for £20 or so just in case the Ebay record is kosher? Is it worth a gamble for £10-20 or whatever? We could start a collection fund (laughs) twenty of us could all put a quid in and we bid $40 on it. Assuming we win it and a dud record arrives we simply bin it. But that backfires if we win it and a rare oddball Shrine 45 lands in the UK..... Its all good fun watching from a distance, derek And like Boba says "the seller's got 3 different label scans now from the 2 different sides of the record; "Huh baby" blue issue, "Huh baby" white demo & "If I had" white demo. Assuming it is a scam the seller's still working pretty hard to try and convince people the records legit, why doesnt he just pull it to save the hassle now the cat's out of the bag? Maybe the greed in him still thinks he's gonna get top dollar for it?
  8. Bonnie Blanchard reduced from £200 down to £175 cos the sun's shining..... derek
  9. Can any kind person post up a soundclip of said tune please? Been offered a copy and I'm curious - think I might even have had a copy years ago and should know what it sounds like - oh well. cheers, derek
  10. Ooops - Yeah I did forgot to mention that this superb Loletta Holloway track was previously unissued untill Kent gave it life on their CD. That means the only way to get this on lovely 7" vinyl is on this 100 Club special. And you get an extra minute. And for £25 you gets two great sides - can life get any better.... derek
  11. Came across these whilst searching Gemm earlier - are they legit re-issues? Just curious.. Annette Poindexter "Wayward dreams/Mama" (Twinight) Format .. 7inch vinyl single .. Details .. Welcome reissue of a lost 1970 soul treasure - Poindexter had an incredible soulful voice, reminiscent of Ruby Andrews' best work. Both sides are heavy on the strings, but nothing eclipses Poindexter's voice. Sidney Pinchaback "Soul strokes/Remind me" (Twinight) Format .. 7inch vinyl single .. Details .. Limited to 750 copies only - a hard breaking classic from Sidney with the Schiller Street Gang. Snapping drums, fuzzy guitar and trippy soul production - like the soulful strings with george clinton at the desk,... Both $10.55 (about a fiver) from a UK based company. derek
  12. Hey up Bob - always think it's fantasic when I hear Americans say this. Damn it's not often I get a little bit jealous (laughs). I'm curious about the Otis Bush release on Cha Cha 778 "So much in love/Someone to love" - described on Gemm as "earthy late 60s Chicago midtempo; deep soul flip". Here's the Marvello's label scan Mr Manship currently has a copy of Teddy Cash for sale onwards, derek
  13. The Five Du-Tones on One-derful 4818 is nothing really to shout about even on a demo. But for oddball curiosities how about this label scan? Presumably they were given to winners of competitions at various roadshows, fairs and the like that record companies used to promote their acts at. The flip side of the record uses the standard pink yellow striped design. derek Five u-Tones "Monkey see-monkey do/The Gouster" (One-derful 4818)
  14. From the day I got it I always thought this was a pretty cool sleeve - that silhouette of Ray would super impose well onto a flyer or whatever. derek I'd forgotten it was the team of Ashford, Simpson & Armstead that had written "I don't need no doctor" which makes references to his drug habit at the time.
  15. Recently purchased the Teddy Cash single on Cha Cha Records out of Chicago from another member on here (thanks NC). I bought it for the haunting empty ballad "You are so wonderful" - OK there are a couple of shaky moments in it that drop it down a bit but on the whole methinks its a good sound. The uptempo flip "I love the sound of music" is dire. It's a label that hadn't rung any bells with me previously and to be honest a "must investigate their releases sometime" type thought had never crossed my mind. I came across a Marvello's release on the label "Come back my love" on a red design but couldn't find a mention of this release - or indeed label - in Robert Pruter's excellent 'Chicago Soul' book. However a quick trawl through Gemm soon turned up alot more information about the Cha Cha imprint which I'll add on later..... derek
  16. Hi Tony - always thought "The other one" slotted into that "good but not brilliant" section, and like you I can't hear $300 in it (coughs). And don't waste any time wondering what the flip side "Excuse me" sounds like. It's not good. Scan & soundfile added. derek I'm sure this has been discussed umpteen times on here before but on what releases did Brunswick start and finish issuing promo copies on the pale blue label?
  17. Steve - presume you've tried John Manship's 'Rarest Of The Rare' section I'm sure there's scans of most of the records you're after. Only problem is they might not be big enough or clear enough for your needs. Popsike is another avenue. derek
  18. I'm rarely shocked these days but when I heard this sad news on Saturday morning it really did make me pause for thought, it must have made me quite poignant during the day as I even went onto the 6T's website later to look at her photos. My sympathies go out to all her family. derek
  19. dropped them down to £3 issue 5 WDJ + postage. Can't say fairer than that. derek
  20. reduced this down to £25 to help it on its way.... derek + postage £1 UK, £1-20 Europe. Payment by chq,PO or Paypal + 4% (to D.Pearson@bradford.ac.uk) Off list reples please PM or email. Thanks, derek

  25. cos I'm old school I always tend to underestimate record values (ie. famous last words at most venues "it's only about thirty quid isnt it?"). So I nearly fell off my chair when I saw this on a list for £75! Hells bells where did that price come from? Thought it was about £20 or less? Maybe I should get out more or stop in more and study the price guides/Ebay/Popsike blah blah. derek
