  1. go on Cookie you know you wanna move it up north hehe. derek
  2. "I'll never say no" - thought it had a good backing track, nice harmony support and overall sounded very nice. Not convinced about the lead vocal though... "I can't get over" was much much better. Will post up another track by a group with the same name which I think is rather special. Blimey if all 3 cuts are from the same group that's quite an impressive back catalogue me thinks. derek
  3. that's the spirit Tony & Malc nice one! Never went to Wakefield Unity so would love to see some photos. Think my allnighter career was just starting as the club was finishing (Mmm story of my life perhaps hehehe). I'm sure I visited the Unity Hall one afternoon several years ago whilst passing through Wakefield. The doors were locked but I peered through the windows (as you do...) and it seemed in fine shape. I'm sure I've got loads of old club photos tucked away to flesh out this thread, but they're not digital so I'll have to dig through piles of old photos an' scan them in. onwards, derek I've got a great photo of an old Bradford Coffee Bar that's so evocative of the times that it's worth the half hour I'm gonna spend looking for it this aft. When you see it I'll expect to hear gasps of acknowledgement all round (laughs)
  4. Anybody got a copy of the Perfections "So lonely" on Big B at a realistic price for sale/trade please? Would prefer it to be at least VG++ or better. PM or email D.Pearson@bradford.ac.uk thanks, derek
  5. Come on Rotheram (Pitches, Clifton Hall etc), Cleethorpes (Winter Gardens), Manchester (too many to mention), Chesterfield (Winding Wheel), Mansfield (Swan Hotel), Blackburn (Tony's Empress), Burnley, Preston blah blah blah need I go on? derek Come on London And of course there's that little club in Wigan which must qualify for the most photographed club of all time
  6. If I had the time....I'd set up a website showing now and then photographs of the buildings which have housed soul clubs over the years. They are part and parcel of our history, they need to be documented before it's too late. More often than not these once famous clubs have been reduced to dusty car parks and shabby warehouses selling tatty carpets. The only way to build up this photo library into something substantial and worthwhile would be to invite people to send in their own pictures from their own town and indeed any and every town in the UK. Last Friday when it was sunny I had a quick drive round 2 venues in Bradford city centre which are often discussed on here. This is how Bensons Bierkeller and the Queens Hall look today... Bensons The Queens Hall In a photographic mood, derek
  7. Kept meaning to add in to this but.... Shades Of Soul issue 32 - down to my last 7 copies so be quick. £3 + £1 UK postage. PM or email me D.Pearson@bradford.ac.uk working on #33 as we speak. onwards, derek
  8. Aah the King George 45 - thats the one that always somehow slips into conversations with Cliff Steele. "So Cliff are you erm holding onto that King George record like? It's not for me I've got one it's for my disabled brother in hospital,it's his top want........" derek vinyl makes morals go awol
  9. Fact: Connie Laverne is a wonderful, wonderful tune. Question: Would it be so coveted if it wasn't so rare? Answer: Probably yes due to its exceptional quality. Statement: Yes it was the last release on the label as far as I know. In fact being the obsessive I am I've drafted a piece, albeit a small one, titled "Infamous last releases". It's quite an illustrious group of records. Question: Does an issue exist? Reply: Surely one would have turned up by now? Just consider the scene "New York, sometime 1973, the A&R men at GSF have got wind the label's going down the shute. And they still want us to push this record, I'm putting all my promos in the trash can and hunting a new job". For people that have this record in their collection who acquired said 45 for probably less than £20 20-25 years ago it's comfortinq to hear it go for £900+. But the acid test is - if it was on your wants list today would you pay that for a copy? derek I know it's not a test of rarity but can you remember when you last saw a copy up for grabs either on here or Ebay? Seen to think one from Sweden was offered last year. Quick check on Popsike confirms $710 Feb 06 Swedish origin.
  10. Yes I know you can all throw stones at me but I don't think I've got a single record on Prelude in my collection. Definately nothing on 7inch 'cos I've checked my database though I might have a stray twelve lurking somewhere in the shadows. Oh the shame. derek
  11. I'm sure somebody had one of these to sell in the "sales" section within the last couple of weeks. A bit vague I know, sorry. Derek
  12. been away all weekend and I missed this thread - damn - I'd have bought this Tony if it hadn't already sold. Anybody got one for sale at around this price? cheers, derek
  13. Offered a copy in the sales section on 14 April 07 for £30 complete with sound clip of both sides. Got no offers so reduced it down to £25. Its still sat in my box. cheers, derek
