Attempted some trading deals with these 2 but they didn't work out. I was in no rush to shift them off then. But now I'm in the middle of buying a couple of expensive records so I would like to raise some cash pretty sharpish if poss. So I've reduced both records by another £25 in an attempt to move them on. Reduced grading on Bonnie Blanchard from Ex- down to VG++ due to some slight noise in first half minute. Cash prefered this time. Falcons "Good good feeling (Ex-) /Love like you never (VG++)" Big Wheel £175 now REDUCED down to £150; Bonnie Blanchard "You're the only one" (VG++) CRS £200 - REDUCED TO £175 - now REDUCED down to £150; + postage £5 Special Next Day UK or £1-20 without insurance sent at your risk. Europe/USA etc contact me first. Payment by UK chq fine by me if there's no rush,PO or Paypal + 4% (to D.Pearson@bradford.ac.uk) Off list reples please PM or email. Thanks, derek

File under records I should know at my age but.... Ballads "I can't see your love" first released on Wee (local label therefore the more expensive option), then picked up by Vee Jay for national distribution (more copies so hopefully cheaper). Believe it was also released twice on Wee. Had forgotten just how good this tune is - anybody got one for sale? Would like it to be in VG++ at least, Ex nick if poss. PM or email D.Pearson@bradford.ac.uk please cheers, derek Saw the Wee copy in Paul Harris's sales box many times earlier this year and after reading his glowing sales blurb often wondered what it was like. Now I know. But he's sold it.

saw it myself on Pat's website yesterday and thought "blimey that's cheap". In a weird twist of thinking I wish it was on my wants list so I could buy it and be really pleased at getting it so cheap. derek

When I originally uploaded this photo in May 2007 I meant to add some comments in the next week or so. But little did I know at the time that I'd be virtually homeless within 6 months time and adding words to pictures was the last thing on my mind...... If I could rewind to May 2007 this is what I would have said: I didn't actually take the batch of photos titled unknown club mid 80s and I haven't a clue who did. To be honest I don't even know how I got them? Whilst I recognise nearly all the faces on there I doubt I could put names to more than a handful of them. It stands to reason really as most people take photos of their mates and if I'd have taken this shot I'd have probably named most of the characters on there. As it is, I see Pete Lawson reading the paper, Gilly wearing check shirt in the centre, Gis from Preston with drumstick on the far right with the moustached George Ramonis from Derby stood above him smoking. I have a vague memory somewhere of this photo being discussed before (Erm ??) with several people adding various names untill a complete roll call was achieved. derek hey up Alan - how's it going? -
Found these 3 photos last week undated and with no details on the back. A sure sign I didn't take them...From the people gathered in the photos a quiet voice in my mind says mid 80s all-dayer possibly Derby area? Some well known faces indeed from L-R: Pete Lawson reading paper, Gilly holding record, George Ramonis stood up smoking on right, Gis from Preston 2nd from right. I recognise most of the others but their names have gone. a very youthfull Mister Anderson. Tomo in hand knitted jumper. Note: moustaches were still compulsory on lads during this period. 2 questions? Young men with no shirts on - when did that start? When was facial hair for men outlawed? Where did all the moustaches go? onwards, derek

Have posted up this topic very quickly and at very short notice - sorry - will return shortly to explain more. onwards, derek Derek Pearson 'Shades Of Soul' BCB 106.6FM Sat 26th May 8-10pm So between the hours 8 and 10pm Saturday night (26th) will see me doing another 2 hour rare soul session featuring all styles, all era's,all over the place on Bradford's community radio station BCB 106.6FM. World Web Web people can listen to the show via the real audio live stream - listen on www.bcbradio.co.uk Those lucky enough to be living within a 10-15 mile radius of the transmitter can hopefully listen direct on 106.6FM. However when I've been travelling on high ground like the M62 across West Yorks I've been able to pick it up quite clearly. As per usual I'll be playing loadsa 45rpm records off chunky black vinyl some mint and some scratched and showcasing cuts from a bundle of new Kent CDs. Friends and venues will be getting a mention as per usual.

Here's a couple more exterior shots of Bradford Bensons I found yesterday. Left: Taken June 1986 looking up the road, before it was boarded up for safety reasons; note the roof -looks like evidence of a fire which either closed the club down or occured when the club was derelict. For a laugh can anybody name the 2 cars on view? Alright yeah Mini on the right I know what's the one on the left? Right: Taken last week looking down the road (forgot to upload it in the original post doh). See how much the trees have grown in the foreground. You can see that the one storey building on the right of the club, which housed the Bierkeller, had been redeveloped by the NHS into offices and a Pharmacy at the rear. derek Wonder if I've got any exterior pics of Bury, Hyde, Burnley Bank Hall, Droylseden tucked away? -

Nice one Malc - over time as I wade through my pile of photo albums I'll scan in any interesting ones and send them your way. To my shame I'd promised to get involved with another different photo project many months ago and up to date hadn't got going on it. So this will drive me on and it will nicely kill two birds with one stone. How about slightly stretch this project Malc a little bit wider by including flyers/posters from the various clubs to show which DJ's were on etc etc. It quite saddens me that there seem to be so few exterior pictures of other iconic important clubs like The Torch and the Blackpool Mecca. Also has anybody got any interior/exterior shots of the Leeds Central? Guess that the passage of time factor has diminished the number of personal photos in existence? They simply get thrown away or lost in house moves? derek -

Hi Karen how's it going? Know what you mean about photos of people inside venues rather than exterior shots of the building itself. We all want to take pics of our daft/excited buddies hehehe. Many many people myself included took exterior shots of that club in Wigan but it never occured to me to photograph the outside of other clubs like Stafford's TOTW, Manchester Ritz, Warrington Parr Hall etc etc. Maybe because that club in Wigan was held up as such an iconic important club by everybody (and more importantly we knew it at the time) we all took pictures out of pride because we belonged to an underground family. derek -

Hi Kirsty - we used to frequent the Astoria at the all-nighters Phil Dick ran. Remember the TV clip? Also saw several Acid Jazz type groups there so it must have been around the early 90s. Don't think I've got any exterior - or indeed interior - shots, but who knows what's buried in my photo albums.... derek -

absolutely fascinating photos Malc! As I started allnighters in 1978 (not earlier as I'd previously thought) I missed the Unity Hall by a couple of years so I find these photos really interesting as I know alot of Bradford Soulies travelled over. Did anybody promote nights there after you Malc? Didn't realise the building had been empty for years - presume the council and/or a developer had big plans for the site which fell by the wayside? When I peaked at the Unity Hall I seem to think I just thought it was closed for the day. derek -

set up a new thread to show these Coffee Bar - or to give it's correct title Coffee House - pics: /index.php?showtopic=49037 onwards, derek -
Following on from the thread re now and then photos of old soul club buildings /index.php?showtopic=48820 here's a couple of pics of an old infamous coffee house in Bradford. I don't know what it's history was or is - sixties mod hang out perhaps? - or maybe it was simply one of the first new breed coffee houses in town where all the cool young folk could gather - I don't know, all I do know is that it's always mentioned with reverance by older Bradford lads. I realise technically it's not a soul club and because I wanted it to attract some feedback I posted it up in a seperate thread so it wouldn't get submerged in the original one. (Quote) I've got a great photo of an old Bradford Coffee Bar that's so evocative of the times that it's worth the half hour I'm gonna spend looking for it this aft. When you see it I'll expect to hear gasps of acknowledgement all round (laughs) (Quote) The sign reads Continental Coffee House but it was always known as the 'Hole in the Wall'. Note the 2 single doors boarded up; entering through the left hand side one took you into the ground floor cafe; however the right hand door lead downstairs to the basement coffee bar which is -I guess-where the action was. These pictures were taken by me in July '86 and I can't honestly recall whether I actually ever went into this establishment for drink or whatever. In my time I don't even know if the downstairs bit was ever open. What wins it for me is the signage, 'Drink Coca-Cola' above which is a boy passing a mini-skirted blond girl a bottle of coke through a hole in the wall. If I took the photo's mid '80s how come the sign had lasted so well? Because it had been boarded over with a cheap very basic sign for many years. Just taking the photo was all about seizing the moment, opportunities an' all that. Seem to think the cafe had been damaged due to a small fire and was boarded up for security. It stayed like that for several months but one day whilst walking past I noticed all the rough boarding had been removed in readiness for a total refit. Luckily they'd also removed the nasty modern top sign to reveal the Coca-Cola pair underneath. Thought Mmm better bring my camera into work tommorrow and take some pictures pretty sharpish before they get covered over again. I returned to take these photos the following day and within 24 hours the builders had returned and the refit started. derek
