  3. well done Mal C for starting this thread - I know the word 'legend' is thrown around the entertainment business like false tears but Roger Eagle really does deserve that title. His involvement in 2 of the most influential clubs in the North tells you all you need to know. Great link as well Neil. For those that require more information check a rare interview with the man at Pool Of Life - Roger Eagle the godfather of British soul https://freespace.virgin.net/penny.kiley/eagle.htm onwards, derek

  8. Was strolling through town one dinnertime last week and bumped into a lad I haven't seen for a few years. We used to regularly play 5-a-side football together and I remember him around town as a punk with a mohican in the late 70's. He was and still is a big Leeds fan and got into a few scrapes and adventures along the way. During the conversation he says those golden words all record collectors love to hear; "are you still collecting that soul stuff? I've loads of bits to get rid of". Not wanting to appear over eager 2 hours later I was banging on his front door. Over coffee we chatted about music, football, clubs, life in the 70s blah blah blah whilst I flicked through piles of sevens. It was mainly British stuff, a lot of oddball things, some 70s reissues but sadly few import 45s. Right in the middle of all this stuff was a UK Vocalion copy of Joe Hinton "You gotta have love/Funny how time slips away" - eh? Best bit was it was mint un-played with a company sleeve. Catalogue number V-P.9224 for those that like that sorta thing. What I want to know is how the hell did it end up in his flat? I'm not saying it didn't have a right to be there I'm just so curious how it did. If only records could talk. I'd love to know what tortuous route it took from its year of release in 1964 to me locating it in 2007? Why can't records be fitted with webcams, tracking devices or something? Also in his possession were 3 different Kiki Dee records on UK Fontana all mint, turns out one of his best mates is somehow related to Ms Dee whose a Bradford born girl. As I turned over her Fontana records to see what the flips were he commented "Magic Carpet Ride's not in there". I laughed internally so he couldn't see or hear me. Interesting fact: Google tells me Kiki Dee had 11 releases on UK Fontana between the years 1963-68; "Magic Carpet Ride" was her last release on the label. Its all good fun innit, Derek If anybody fancies the above Joe Hinton 45 contact me as I wanna sell/trade it off. Think its worth about £10-15?
  9. Ooh a DVD - I just love watching footage of the dance floor and people in clubs. Club Culture and documentories tick my box. Has anybody got any copies of this DVD left for sale or can kindly do me a copy please. Money waiting. cheers, derek
  10. Thanks for posting this up Kirsty, Ali had texted me the sad news a few hours earlier. Hung out with the 3 Theresa's quite a bit during the early-mid 90s and on glancing through my photo albums at the weekend (looking for something completely different) I saw her smiling face on several photos. Can you send me the funeral details as I'd like to try get over for it. thanks, derek In time I will post up photos of Theresa in respect and as a memorial.
  11. if you can remember who had it Ken let me know and I'll purchase it. derek
  12. Of course you would. Me thinks those Fred Hughes' Demo's are quite tricky to locate and very desireable indeed. Tell you what I think are rare are white demos of Cody's "Going going gone". I'd never actually seen one untill I came across a copy in a sales box at a Stoke all-nighter a few years ago for £15. I was sorta umming and aahing whether to buy it when Dave Welding swooped in from behind and purchased it. Oh well. Up untill then I'd never even wondered if there were any white demos of it or why I hadn't seen any around. It's all good fun innit. derek
  13. absolute top record indeed. I'm not collecting the different label variations of this release, I'm picking up as I go along the different coloured vinyl releases. How bizarre? I'm sure I've got blue and red vinyl copies tucked away somewhere. Anybody got any other colours? derek
  14. Hey up Dospan - really enjoyed looking at the mid 80s photos from the Queens Hall in Bradford; I used to go all the time but don't think I took any pictures of the dance floor (doh). Think mine are all of the shady characters that loitered by the records boxes blocking the entrance steps. When I get chance/time I'll upload a bundle. Infact it's been fascinating looking at all the photos you've uploaded. Nice one! Onwards, derek
  15. Updated with additions Fri 27th July 07. onwards, derek

  17. would agree with you there Gareth. Ballad lovers should check out their "Woman come home" on Indie 91 a missing Lamp number me thinks; well my inner lazy detective reckons so, at least it fits the numbering system Lamp used and there's no known release on 91. Two plus two equals..... derek
  18. 'Shades Of Soul' is on the Bradford based BCB 106.6FM tonight between 9-10pm, Dee Pee playing northern in a northern accent..... 1 hour rare soul session featuring all styles, all era's,all over the place (ho ho ho) on Bradford's community radio station BCB 106.6FM. As per usual I'll be playing loadsa 45rpm records off chunky black vinyl some mint and some scratched and showcasing the most famous cut from the just released Tempests CD. Friends and venues always get a mention. Thanks to Mike Hughes for streaming previous shows. onwards, derek will try post up play list within next hour or two however it's tea time and there's Bradford v Salford Rugby League to watch at 6pm on Sky Sport.
  19. Blimey Garv I've been intending to post a thread about this for months and never actually got round to it. I seem to recall a few years ago I investigated buying some videos of old "Soul Train" shows. After using Google's search engine the only place that I came across which sold them was directly from the website of Don Cornelius, the man who kicked off the whole soul train legacy. But I never bought any as I couldnt be certain that I was buying videos that could be viewed on UK/European video machines. I tried contacting them about this but got no reply. This official site gives great background historical information on the shows www.soultrain.com but sadly it appears there's no where legit to buy them from. derek
  20. Ooops yes I did mean the Appointments on De-Lite not Redd Coach (DP makes note to himself-in future check facts before posting in haste) very well double guessed Simon. Thanks to everyone who sent me the label scans either by PM or via email. Chalky I'll send you the Appointments scan by email. derek Top Tip: To view label scans of some very rare records indeed investigate the website of a very well known record dealer based between Nottingham and Leicester or thereabouts

  25. It's been all change on the radio front at BCB Radio in Bradford, all specialist presenters with a 2 hour slot have had an hour clipped off to allow new shows and DJ's to come aboard. Not too happy bout losing 60 minutes but I understand why they are doing it and overall it can only be a good thing. So 'Shades Of Soul' is now on BCB 106.6FM between 9-10pm every fourth Saturday starting tonight Saturday 23rd June. Dee Pee playing northern in a northern accent..... 1 hour rare soul session featuring all styles, all era's,all over the place (ho ho ho) on Bradford's community radio station BCB 106.6FM.
