The Four Seasons Nightclub (later Rudies) In Scarborough N,yorks
Derek Pearson replied to a topic in All About the SOUL
I seem to remember DJing quite often at Rudies during the early 80's, were they just on at Bank Holidays and never strayed past the 2am barrier? I've got some old photos of Rudies from this period tucked away somewhere, and fortunately I stumbled across them a few weeks ago whilst moving some boxes around. As I'm now starting to claw some time back I'll try either post the pics into this thread or into My Albums. Hey Harry C don't laugh I've got a picture of you wearing a V neck wooly jumper you're Mum bought you hehehe..... derek -

BCB Radio 106.6FM Shades Of Soul with Derek Pearson and guest Mick Howard, Saturday 26th July 9-10pm. In tonight's show we welcome the return of Heywood's DJ and collector Mick Howard who made his guest debut on the show a few months ago. Unfortunately I had a blank stare into space moment and somehow introduced him as Michael Smith which sorta set the tone for the show. Oops sorry Mick. But we laughed and carried on to play around 10 records each - here's my selection. I'm sure Mick will add his choices later today. Bobby King "Thanks Mr Postman" Federal; Johnnie Taylor "Changes" Stax; Cody Black "Going going gone" Ram-Brock; The Masqueraders "I don't want nobody to lead me on" Wand; Little Samson "Don't take your love" El D; Robert Sanders "What I don't see can't hurt me" CVC; The Illusions "It's just an illusion" Freedom; Gene Barber "I need a love" Hit; Audrey Royal "Come on playboy" Alston; Charles Brimmer "Don't look back" Brimco. As per usual a good laugh was had and some decent tunes were played. I'm sure Mick will be guesting on BCB again in the very near future. Me thinks it's about time we got Mister Paul Harris down to the studio for a guest set. onwards, derek

Most record packages received in one day? Let me explain - about a year ago at a mate's house half a dozen of us were sat about playing records, smoking, drinking etc. During the conversation somebody said something like "I once got 4 packages through the post one day" said in a mixture of pride and shame. Proud to show they were a serious collector and shamed thinking now they'll all know why I couldn't afford new shoes for the kids. That triggered off a chain of replies - "Four? I once had six" and in every reply the number got bigger. Untill amongst much amazement and laughing somebody said "Most I've had in one day is 13 (thirteen)! " Mouths were seen to drop open. Phew anybody wanna add their top number? And please no fibbing. Not sure if John Manship should be allowed to reply either (laughs)....... And to clarify I don't mean the most number of records received through the post in one day (you could have 200 in one box...). Lives of the obsessives' revealed. onwards, derek
