yep you're right Rod - it is a version of that magnificent tune by J.B.Love (aka Jimmy Breedlove) on Kapp 603. However whereas his version is a huge, cavernous piece of 1964 New York - hers is just wishy washy milkshake froth which should only be played in launderettes. onwards, derek Oh and his Congress 45 is "No One Else But You". On replaying J.B.'s Kapp 45 in my mind I suddenly likened it to summat Ray Pollard & The Wanderers would (should) have done.......

Derek Pearson & special guest Craig Butler Shades Of Soul 21.00-22.00pm. Bradford Community Based Radio BCB106.6FM Off we trudged back into studio 3 for the first show of the New Year and our special guest tonight is the bearded Mister Butler from Brighouse. Having known Craig since the mid eighties and yes I know we're all getting older together even though we're different ages - it still sorta freaks me out when I see him, as he's got a beard and it's virtually all silver in places. Craig with a silver beard eh? Despite that, he's still got a mighty fine collection (most of which I sold him) and once again he delves into his boxes. And boy can he delve. I did set him a few tasks though...... Fasten your seat belts and await 60 minutes of the good groove. It could go anywhere and often does. Expect the weird. Expect the wonderful. You can rely on us. And as usual if you're interested in hearing the show live there's 2 ways to go about it - first try the good old 106.6FM frequency on your radio if you live within say 10 miles of the studio and secondly through the wonders of the world wide web www.bcbradio.co.uk Onwards, Derek All Era's. All styles. All over the place. Craig Butler's choice of 12 fine tunes: Val & Nick - Don't You Feel Sorry - Glover Al Gardner - Sweet Baby - Googa-Mooga Irma & The Fascinators - Lost Love - Scepter Connie Questell - Tell Me What To Do - Decca Deana Johnson - The Breaking Point - Wild Deuce Gladys Knight - Queen Of Tears - Vee-Jay The Voice Masters - Two Lovers - Frisco Bobby Hutton - Come See What's Left Of Me - Philips Kenny Sheppard - What Difference Does It Make - Maxx Tobi Lark - Sweep It Out Of The Shed - Topper Roy Hamilton - You Can Count On Me - MGM Harry Starr - Step Into My World - End Dee Pee's varied selection of old 45s: Dramatics "Your love was strange" Volt 4029 ©October 1969; Summits "Sophisticated lady" La Salle 504a; J.J. Barnes "Baby please come back home " Groovesville 1006; Steve Mancha "I don't want to lose you" Groovesville 1002; The Ad Libs "Think of me" Karen; The Holidays "Watch out girl" Golden World 47; Summits "Let's love now" La Salle 504b; Dee Dee Warwick "Suspicious Minds" Atco ©1970; Jack Montgomery "Baby, baby take a chance on me" Revue. Was fortunate to go see and hear this legendary singer at a small outdoor festival type thing one night somewhere in the Pittsburgh area. I got talking to him after the gig over a beer and must've asked him for his set list as a sort of souvenir. -

Hey Mick how's it going? Bet you're one of the few people on here that's got more snow than me hahaha. I say those chaps from Preston were quite a lively bunch what? Even if half the stories I've been told over the years are true - they were still a rum bunch of lads eh? onwards, derek Still think it does looks abit like Gis even though it isn't... -

As the caption says, looking from the stage towards the hallowed record bar. Seem to think the lad in the white shirt, longish hair centre of picture was Carts from Manchester a well known face at the time? derek -

First off let me say I didn't take this picture and I don't know who did. But what I do know is that it was given to me by Denise North; a lady who I regularly see described in local newspapers as "one of the kindest, most caring and generous people around". Picture taken from Mr M's balcony looking over the dance floor towards the toilets at the end. Lad in white shirt with black tie is the well known Atlas from Stoke well regarded as a good lad. Tell you what that tall lad in short sleeve blue tee shirt front of picture doesnt half look alot like Gis Southworth who was part of the Preston Lunatic Fringe at Stafford hahaha. Anybody confirm? Peace. I'm outta here or summat. derek -
Well done to everybody concerned in the release of such a fine double sider on vinyl. My hat is raised to you all. Must admit William Bollinger's "You Can Lead Your Woman To The Altar"** on Chess 1994 was one of the first real soul, deep soul 45s that made my mouth just drop open when I first heard it 20 odd years ago. I gasped. That was then and this is now. And it's still in my all time top 10 deep records of all time. derek ** Oscar Toney also had a go at the song - albeit at a slighter faster pace - on Bell.

thanks for your comments you two. It's quite bizarre really but - and please don't laugh - I never added 2 and 2 together and realised just how many people featured on my photographs were linked together. A careful study of my albums will reveal the same sorry looking faces cropping up with frequent regularity hahaha. All that changes is the states they were in, the fashions they were wearing and the pages of the calender. It wasn't untill I started laying out my photos in this gallery that the picture became quite clear hohoho (pun intended). Because of my obsessive nature I know I'm gonna have to work really hard try to stop myself cross referencing every bleeding photograph on here...... Here's an example (No. 1 in a series of 125 to be continued): This picture shows Julie Marshall at a venue unknown in August 1980. Trawl this same album and locate the photo called Tod Bar 20Oct80. Front row, green shirt, right of Jackie Green, infront of Gary Rushbrooke. derek -

A cover-up Mister Howard? You little tinker you. Please don't tell me it's that Fast Eddie thing hahaha. derek x Quality varied set as per usual as expected there Mick. Nice one. -
Flippin heck every record thats getting slated on here I've got in my collection. Demo's as well. Think I need to re-evaluate laughs... And if you think I'm coming on here, telling the whole world my sordid little guilty secrets, you're sadly mistaken. Look it was 1979. I was on the run from Approved School. I had a moustache. It was only The Newbeats "Don't Turn Me Loose". On a white demo for £4. Mint. I'll never forgive Dave Withers for making me buy that. Never. I keep the record outside in a shed at the bottom of the garden. It never shares company with my other records. My head is permanently hung in shame. Please forgive me oh Lord. derek And another thing - even to this day I can't bring myself to even play it, just to remind myself how bad I remember it to be. And that's true. And here's another truth. I'm so guilty I haven't even included said record on my record collection database. Now that is guilt of a major kind. .

Just When You Thought It Couldn't Get Any Tackier
Derek Pearson replied to paultp's topic in All About the SOUL
There you go again - picky picky picky - you record collectors are just so obsessive (big sigh). Hey up Sutty how's it going? Now I can fully understand the mockery heaped upon this mountain of tableware - but I tell you what - if those delicate fine bone china items had been made in the sixties many on here - myself included - would have been soiling themselves** to get hold of 'em. Pretty sure I'd have been picking up the odd piece here and there on the quiet. Ebay would've been getting trawled every night and I'd have been the first to out bid ya. And then 10 years later on forums just like this we'd all be going "yeah I remember getting my first Motown teapot, a special limited edition one with glazed silver trim on the lid from a sale in Woolworths for a couple o' quid. Tried to buy a few more but they only had the one. Even now I still wonder what they had left tucked away in the backroom". Time to walk the dog. In the snow. Again. derek x & ruby woof ** Must make it clear I wouldn't have soiled myself 'cos mi nappy takes care of that sort o' stuff. -
Nice one Kenny trust you're well. Tell you what - whilst I was having a mad one sorting out a carrier bag full of old photos recently, what should pop out but an old photo of you looking rather svelte at a Bradford Queens Hall all-nighter sometime circa early 90s. And nothing you can say or do will stop me uploading it soon hahaha. But then again I could be open to offers of bribery and corruption. take care fella. derek

thanks Baz but under cross examination my lips always stay sealed. Mancha trivia thread? - oh bubbles - please no - you're winding me up aren't ya? Don't say somebody's already p*ssed on my bonfire. Gonna have to seach the whole site now just in case. Double Big Sigh. derek Love Alan Coney hahaha but - we always used to stop off at his house on the way back from a soul night somewhere in a field 20 miles west of Bishop Auckland. No street lamps, no petrol stations, no map. Think I was late for my DJ spot every time. Oops Right Alan we'll have a quick coffee, play half dozen records and then we'll be off. What I should have said was 500 records and 4 hours later...

Crazy World - Kenny Thomas (Just Found A Box)
Derek Pearson replied to Neil Rushton's topic in Record Sales
Bet that's just what the old owner of that closed down Record Store in Detroit said recently........ It's a bugger when you laugh at your own jokes. T' Four Tracks on Mandingo perhaps? That was another paper thin attempt at being ever so witty and topical. Bad English as well. Time to walk the dog (again) in the snow. derek -
I'm being a bit of a silly billy I guess - I'd drafted summat dead interesting about Mister Mancha and was gonna tag on a couple o' sound clips to explain. But seeing as Refosoul is down there's no point me posting up the words without the sound. So I guess there was no point me opening this thread. See. I told you I was being a bit of a silly billy. Nowt on tele. Borrocks. Think I'll take dog out in the snow again. Sigh. derek
