Well known lad from Stoke - Atlas - in the middle. Over the years you've probably heard people talk about Oldies nights at WC and how the walls ran with sweat. Bear in mind, throughout the late seventies smoking was simply what many young people did, it wasn't outlawed then as it is now. Tales of nicotine dripping off the ceiling weren't urban myths. If you look carefully at the cream/fawn wallpaper in the background - what do you think those orangey trails are? derek (coughs) -

Mick from Burnley** in foreground. ** In another example of how everything is linked together - he also appears in front of the DJ decks wearing grey jacket in photo captioned Searling Todmorden 20 October 1980. Other 2 lads unknown. derek Am I right in thinking the yellow objects in the bottom of the Coca Cola bottle are pieces of discarded chewing gum? And it's a glass coca cola bottle as well. derek -

What a great club the Holgate in York was. Run by Chris and Sue Holmes, we travelled over religously every month during the mid nineties. During discussion recently it was a toss up between the Holgate and Lowton as the best ever monthly soul night' we regularly attended. Great people, good music, nice club and an hour from home. That's how we remember it. Lowton shaded it in the end 'cos of its record bar...... When the music's stopped and the lights go on there always some stragglers that just don't wanna go home.... From left to right: Bob Hardy in white; Dave Guiry in stripes; Pele with grey top; Bev from Doncaster in dress; Me in Salmon Sea Island Cotton, John Smedley Discount Shop, Doncaster; Ronnie Pedley denim jacket; Mick - Big; Chris Holmes in blue; Pino in hoops; Fire Extinguisher in red, origin unknown. Sat on floor in front: Saus from Doncaster; Ian from Doncaster (RIP) sporting his favourite red shoes. Now that's what you call a shiny dance floor. I look back on these times with great affection. onwards, derek -
all five in car park @york holgate club, july 1995

Whilst it's great fun carrying a camera around - the major drawback is if you're the one taking the photos all the time, you're the one that's in least of them. So it was nice to find a rare shot of all 5 of our gang out an about on our travels. We'd just arrived at the Holgate Club in York and were striding across the car park in anticipation. Seem to think I collared a complete stranger and asked them to take a shot with my camera. Turned out very nicely. l-r Big Mick, Dee Pee, Pele, Bob Hardy & Dave Guiry. derek -

bill cosby little ole man rear cover + address
Derek Pearson posted a gallery image in Scans of Soul
From the album: memorabilia, record stores and stuff
Rear sleeve stamped with the shop address: Hurley, 10 Taff St, Pontypridd. I'm assuming this shop address was from the shop that initially sold this 45 as a brand new release in 1967. I think it's pretty neat to have a timeline like this. derek -

Front cover faintly stamped with the shop address: Hurley, 10 Taff St, Pontypridd. The stamp is much more readable on the rear cover. I'm assuming this shop address was from the shop that initially sold this 45 as a brand new release in 1967. I think it's pretty neat to have a timeline like this. derek -

Where it all began....... a young soul boy in the making. Aged 8 he was already becoming a snappy dresser. derek Love the shot of the teacher on the left and the clothes she's wearing. 1965 and bang on the button. -

Derek Pearson & guest selector Mick Howard Shades Of Soul 21.00-22.00pm. Bradford Community Based Radio BCB106.6FM Tonight's guest across the airwaves of Bradfordland and beyond, is the man from Heywood, Mick Howard, this time accompanied by his delightful wife Karen. I know I say this every time, but one fine day I will try and work out which DJ has done most guest spots on the show over the years. What I do know is that the top spot is between tonight's guest and Mr Brighouse Ritz himself, Craig Butler. Once again, the lid will be lifted and we'll see what delights Mister Howard pulls out from the depths of his box. As usual I'll fill in with some crackly vinyl and sharp, witty banter (sort of). Fasten your seat belts and await 60 minutes of the good groove. It could go anywhere and often does. Expect the weird. Expect the wonderful. And as usual if you're interested in hearing the show live there's 2 ways to go about it first try the good old 106.6FM frequency on your radio if you live within roughly 10 miles of the studio and secondly through the wonders of the world wide web www.bcbradio.co.uk I shall endeavour to include a soundclip of the show into this post sometime early next week Onwards, Derek All Era's. All styles. All over the place. And you know it. From out of Mick Howard's box of tricks came these twelve: The Rotations "trying to make you my own" Mala J B Troy "live on" Musicor Little Rose Little "you got the love" Roulette The Festivals "checkin' out " Blue Rock Joe Bataan "special girl" Fania The Intentions "I'm losing your love" Up Tight Gene Redding "I got soul" Bell The Debonaires "stop let's be united" Galaxy Eddie Parker "body chains" Prodigal Spencer Wiggins "I'm at the breaking point" UK Kent Select Natural Impulse "we're gonna make it big" UK Soul Junction Daddy Maxfield "I've always been in love with you" United Artists Dee Pee's random selection of eight crackly vinyl 45s: Lou Johnson "You better let him go" Big Top; Lou Johnson "Magic Potion" Big Top; Billy Butler "Sweet darling" Brunswick; Marvin Smith "Love ain't nothing but pain" Brunswick; Eddie Holman "I'll cry 1,000 tears" Bell; The Voicemasters "You've hurt me baby" Bamboo; Willie & Anthony "I'm tired (of a one way love affair)" Blue Candle; Ike Strong "I owe my life to you" Bama. with guest DJ Mick Howard - Bradford BCB Radio 106.6FM 9-10pm - And on the 8th day the Lord made vinyl
