Slightly off centre of this topic but still Queens Hall related so I guess it's ok. I'll swear blind that years ago somebody posted up a clip of a particular DJ doing a live Northern spot upstairs at QH. Anyway I listened to it and purely by chance it included the next DJ taking over the decks. Who just happened to be an old friend of mine - Nigel Parker. Seem to think I meant to download a copy of the clip but didn't and time rolled by. I've scoured the forums and Refosoul with all manner of combinations of the words Bradford Queens Hall but had no luck. I know it's all a bit vague but does it ring any bells with anyone? If you never ask.... Ta, derek x You wouldn't believe how long I've kept meaning to post this question.....

Billboard - Did You Know You Can Read Online?
Derek Pearson replied to Pete S's topic in All About the SOUL
Good post Pete. Got told by Craig Butler, early part of last year or before, about being able to read old issues of Billboard online - great news I thought! And just like Pete says it's packed full of fascinating information about current/new releases, background info on record companies, what's hot and what's not, the list is endless. It's like reading a time capsule; if you ever wondered what it would be like to go back in time to America in the sixties and read about music being then currently released - now you can. Just read Billboard online. But I did and fell into a black hole where I emerged about 3 hours later hahaha. It scared me so much I dare not go back to Billboard online as it sucked all my life away (smile). Be aware. derek x -
Unable to add anything re the UK release of Barry Smith. However as I'm sure you know, it came out stateside on Shane 1301 which was a blue label. Look out for the much better female version by P.J.Smith also on Shane this time on a yellow label S-100. onwards, derek x

This Record Definitely Doesn't Exist, (Or Does It) ?
Derek Pearson replied to 45cellar's topic in Look At Your Box
suprised nobodies yet asked - are there any issue copies of Judy Freeman's superb "Hold On" lurking about somewhere? A label scan would be very nice indeed. I'm fairly certain Mister Manship once auctioned a copy probably well over 20 years ago; I remember it because he asked the question 'Where are all the collectors' ? (or summat along them lines). Actually that would imply it didn't sell or didn't fetch no where near enough money considering its proven track rarity. Er Mmmm? derek -

Have always meant to chip in with threads like this but I get so easily distracted these days. Every now and then I think of a record and play it and hear myself saying "Cross Over! now that's what I'm talking about". A perfect example of a tune to fully outline what crossover sounds like (to me anyway). Then I forget again. But I did remember a description of many female crossover tunes that I regularly use in the house - A slightly strained vocal over a fractured beat. I'm glad I said that. derek x

The Man That Lived In Wigan Toilets
Derek Pearson replied to Derek Pearson's topic in All About the SOUL
Yeah but can you imagine what his shoes must've looked like in the morning? Wading around in a toilet for 8 hours must play havoc with the leather. And can you imagine what they must've smelled like? Oh Lord... And what about his socks..... derek -

From the album: It was never the same after 1978
text below copied from 'All Our Yesterdays' thread The Man That Lived In Wigan Toilets Some say he never existed. Some say they'd only seen a fleeting glance of him, swimming off into the distance.... What did he actually do all night? Did anybody ever see him outside the confines of the toilet? Where did he get his hair cut? Several months ago a thread started with a question about this poor chat that was always spotted loitering about the toilets in Wigan. Was he mythical, was he just an all-nighter myth, an urban legend of sorts? I had only ever seen him in the downstairs toilet to the left of the stage. Did his duties require him to patrol all the toilets? I never joined in with the original thread. I kept quiet. I had a guilty secret. I knew somewhere deep within my files, boxes and folders there was photographic evidence of that man - the man they say lived in Wigan toilets. Legal Disclaimer: But let me make this clear, despite what many people may say, I'm not in the habit of going around taking pictures of old blokes in toilets. It was not I that took the photo (honest guv). T'was a friend of mine who shall remain nameless that pressed the shutter on that fateful night. Out of curiosity I once did ask Big Mick why he'd taken that particular shot and his reply made me smile, "Nobody ever took a picture of him". Some viewers may find the image distasteful as it contains elements of toilet debris, filth and evidence of highly unsanitary conditions. Expected and standard conditions of most club toilets then and now eh? derek x -
