  1. Picture of the overgrown Kop End terracing at Bradford Park Avenue's old ground taken by me 07.09.18. Also the bricked-in recesses where the turnstiles had previously been installed. Note the five shilling entrance price painted on the wall assumed to be dated from early 1970. Probably from the final ever Football League Division Four match against Scunthorpe United at the old Horton Park Avenue ground on Saturday 4th April 1970 (attendance 2,563). A young Kevin Keegan helped Scunthorpe to a resounding 5-0 win. A few months later the club was voted out of the football league.

  4. Carved into the rocks high above the moors at Ogden Reservoir (inbetween Bradford and Halifax). Derek
  5. Iconic piece of old Bradford 7 graffiti circa 1970. Long gone I'm afraid. Original photograph not taken by me. Derek Immediately behind and running parallel to this big stone wall was an old single track railway line that serviced some old goods yards. In the middle of the picture you can just see the top of the old metal footbridge which crossed over the railway line. A few hundred yards away to the left of the picture was the old Bradford Park Avenue Football Club ground (still in use at the time), a club I used to support as a young teenager due to living nearby.

  16. San Francisco TKO's 'Make Up Your Mind' (Kent Anniversary) 1998 Anybody got a copy of said tune they would be willing to let go of? Current price paid depending on condition. PM to discuss, Ta. Derek
  17. Phew Cecil Washington! a record I always wanted but never had the money at the right time. When records were big this was absolutely massive. It's hard to imagine the impact this record had when played at the time. These days it would probably cause barely a ripple. Dx No excuse needed to tag on a YouTube clip eh?

  20. The one incident that immediately springs to mind that still to this day makes me smile in a mad bonkers sort of way. I've always sorted my 45's collection by label alphabetically of course and probably about 15+ years ago (at least?) I stumbled across a record which I'd inadvertantly miss-filed. "So that's where it is" I heard myself say, I wondered where it had gone as I hadn't come across it for a while in my DJ box either. To my shame I'd put James Fountain's classic "Seven Day Lover" not in the P section as you'd expect but tucked it away in the R section. R for red Peachtree. Shortly after I decided to cut back on smoking dat herb type stuff. Dx
  21. There's awesome and way way beyond that is this. Dx
  22. For those that like the background information of those little 7" records we so avidly collect. Stumbled across this blog post https://homeofthehits.blogspot.co.uk purely by chance whilst reading other articles on the web and luckily it co-incided with me just having looked up the Little Flint release "Pain" on Beast Records. Derek Rick “Bam” Powell ‘The Funky Drummer of Cincinnati’ By Randy McNutt Singer-drummer Rick “Bam” Powell has soaked up plenty of soul in his long career in music, most notably while working in two river towns that have contributed heavily to America's roots-rock and soul--Cincinnati and Muscle Shoals, where he worked as a sideman. Add to this the experience of forty years as an active musician, and you'll have the story of one of the few remaining authentic soul-rockers who is still out there singing his songs. "I'm a singing drummer,” Rick Powell says with a laugh, “and there’s no category for me. Guitarists get most of the attention. How many drummers do you see out there singing the songs?” He has a good point, and a minor problem. People don't usually associate vocalists with being drummers. But Powell doesn't mind so long as he's singing. He grew up in Lebanon, Ohio, and began playing drums as a kid. “A guy up the road had all the records, the 45s by the Beach Boys and other groups, and I fell in love with harmony and all those old sounds,” Powell says. That influence can be heard today in the harmony he places on his recordings. By the time he was in high school in the early 1970s, he was playing and singing in a garage band called The Chamberly Kids. Singer Wayne Perry discovered the band, and joined it. Powell ended up in the studio working on a blue-eyed soul record as the drummer and second lead vocalist. On Perry’s independent sessions in suburban Cincinnati, Powell became the drummer and co-lead vocalist with Perry on “Gonna Have a Good Time,” which was released under the name Little Flint. It was a studio band assembled by Perry and his production group. Little Flint recorded only one single, but it gave the young Powell a chance to record with some veteran musicians. The experience was invaluable, and made him long for more..... https://homeofthehits.blogspot.co.uk/

  25. Glad you and Shelly liked the show Baz. Re the last record - I'd forgotten I was being all mysterious (laughs) - it's Ural Thomas 'Pain is the name of your game'. He first cut the song on Uni in May 1967 (which is a great deep soul ballad in itself check YouTube) then re-recorded it with a younger band and released on Pres Records in August 2015. I've read only 500 copies of the 45 were ever made and have long sold out. I only stumbled across it purely by chance when following a link on Youtube (as you do) back end o' last year. Went straight onto Google to track down a copy and ended up buying one of only 2 copies on sale through the web. Paid about £40 from some bloke in Russia. Woukld you believe I was actually talking to the lad who bought the other remaining copy off the web only last week end. check this for more info https://www.45cat.com/record/prs45805 Derek
