  1. Chuck Jackson's "Waiting In Vain" is the killer track off his 1980 EMI album 'I Wanna Make Love To You' which seems to have completely evaporated off the planet. Seems like after years under the radar collectors are starting to pick up on it and more modern DJ's are featuring it in their sets. A wise man would sit on it for a bit longer and hopefully watch the price rise. But I've never done wise. Only recently found out that it does exist on an EMI 45 but that is even more trickier to locate and which we all know that translates into being a lot more expensive. A 45 copy went through Ebay last month at a shade under £100 (coughs).. The vinyl & cover are in Excellent shape yet another Pearson fair deal - £25 SOLD PM or email pearson544@btinternet.com to reserve/discuss blah blah. I thank you, derek

  3. Mavis Staples "Love Gone Bad" (US Phono) released 1983. "Building relationships takes alot of time, alot of your heart, much more of your mind". Pure soul real soul call it what you want. derek https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jN3VCOs1QAA
  4. Gotta agree "How Can It Be" is real nice. But surprised nobodies yet mentioned their little beauty from 1972-3 ish "My Sweet Baby". Came out over here on UK Action 4618 (grey) which seemed to pop up alot more than its stateside release on Hotline 103. Seem to think it's the blue issue you need as the white demos have the flip "Henry Ralph" double sided. The issue always used to be a solid £40er. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSh9jfeuinU How good is this.... derek
  5. Shades Of Soul Derek Pearson & special guest DJ Dave Guiry Saturday 4th February 2012 21.00-22.00pm. Bradford Community Based Radio BCB106.6FM Tonight's guest across the airwaves of Bradford and beyond is local DJ / collector and long time buddy of mine Dave Guiry who's last visit into the BCB studios was several years ago. He proceeds to go where no other guest has gone before by airing an eclectic selection of some weird and wonderful jazz funk & disco 45s. All Era's. All styles. All over the place. As usual I'll fill in the gaps with some crackly vinyl and witty chit chat (yeah right). Fasten your seat belts and await 60 minutes of the good groove. It could go anywhere and often does. And as usual if you're interested in hearing the show live there's 2 ways to go about it - first try the good old 106.6FM frequency on your radio if you live within roughly 10 miles of the studio and secondly through the wonders of the world wide web www.bcbradio.co.uk Onwards, Derek All Era's. All styles. All over the place. Dave Guiry's eclectic selection: Dee Pee's random selection of eight crackly vinyl 45s: Charles Spurling - She cried just a minute - King Don Hollinger - Cruel World - Atco Lou Rawls - Dead end street - Capitol Jimmy Delphs - Almost - Karen Flame and the Lovelights - The way I want our love - Jaber The Enticers - Calling for your love - Cotillion The Commands - No time for you - Dynamics Magnificent 7 - Never will I - Dial
  6. Magnificent 7 "Never will I" (Dial) The way this 6 man group sing "So close a breeze can't blow between us, so tight you couldn't part us with a tommy gun" is just brilliant. Turns up about 1:45 mins in. Dedicated to Tony Livesey. derek
  7. By jolly michael - I believe you're right! Never heard the album cut before - didn't even know there was one. Stumbled upon it whilst flitting about YouTube at random derek
  8. I remember me and Paul Hamer going over to Warrington one Saturday* to have a look through Geoff Whitfield's collection when he was selling up. Pulled out The Ivories and nearly had a fit when he told me the price. Sixty quid eh you're joking. Put it straight back and stomped off huffing and puffing. derek *date unknown possibly early nineties.
  9. aah so that's where I got my Danny Woods from. Nice one Harry. derek
  10. Cos I'm such a loose lay and have a high tolerance to nutballs especially when looking for vinyl I'll quite happily wade through overpriced stuff all day long. Been to lots of places in the states where every record's $20 but that just seems to make me look harder 'cos you know sooner or later you'll find summat thats $100 and with a sweet innocent smile you ask the price. His reply gives you that warm glow inside that makes it all worthwhile. derek
  11. I nearly soiled mi panties when I saw all those pictures of records all over the place - there are some things which just get us records obsessives frothing. I was all set to jump in the car but then I read Glyn's assessment. Oh. derek But you know right in the back of your mind there's a little tiny voice saying "Mmm I wonder if...."
  12. Struth alot of people are very busy but come on - that's lazy selling at it's worst. He's got 650 records to sell starting at £5500 and he's hoping a couple of pictures of the record boxes will stimulate a mad rush of bids. If you're interested you've got to contact him - blimey he's not making it easy for himself is he? Oh well. derek
  13. Vinyl makes even friends do some very strange things. Ain't that the truth. derek
  14. Seem to have a vague recollection of dealing with some sort of latino bloke out of New Jersey mid eighties I guess. He would send me a hand written list every now and then of 45s he'd picked up to resell. On one occassion I got a bundle of 13 or so records from him - there was 1 tasty original** and the rest were oddball semi-known sort of cheapies. Me being me at the time - it was the mid eighties remember, Stafford was in full flow, tape swopping was a full time job and every collector seemed to be chasing mad semi-knowns - I decided to flog the original** to pay for the dozen cheapies I was keeping. In the end I think I got £35 for it which meant I'd got a dozen free 45s and summat like £15 to spend. Result! Move over Alan Sugar the big boys are in town.... I do chuckle to myself when I think back - but ultimately it's only vinyl and if that's you're only big regret in life, well done, me I've dropped a lot more bigger boll*cks than that in my time..... derek x ** GB "CLMH" (Smoke) ouch
  15. Such a pretty sleeve that makes me think of sunny days on the beach derek x Watching/listening to the film "The Thin Red Line" as I type.
  16. Rarely find this UK sleeve derek x
  17. First done by The Del-Royals on Mercury in October 1969 then 10 years later Tyrone Barkley's version caused much excitement across dancefloors in the north of england and beyond. Seem to think Lou Rawls had a go at the song on Capitol - he might have even done it first - but haven't heard it or know where it fits in the timeline of releases. Before you die you need to hear The Del-Royals superb rendition. derek x
  18. Nice, real nice. derek x
