Well spotted Ged - using Canada Dry in the topic title wasn't as snappy as using Schweppes hahaha. For those that aren't aware record collectors used to use these old wooden crates to store and/or carry records around in. Various drinks company's used these wooden crates to distribute their product around to a variety of pubs and clubs. Their measurements were ideal - 7.5inch wide, 6inch deep & 16inch long meant the box could hold up to 150 singles. Even though they were light they were very robust and certainly built to last to withstand the rigours of pub life. Dove tailed joints both ends with metal wire strengtheners, cut outs at each end and down the sides for ease of lifting. At the time I guess everybodies dad, grandad and/or uncle had the odd box or two in the cellar, loft, shed or where ever. Guess the majority of them ended up on the fire as I rarely seem them about nowadays on my travels. What I can't recall was - was there an insert or summat in the box to stop the bottles rattling against each other? And finally, over the years Rob Smith could be regularly spotted humping hundreds of records around in these crates. derek

In the sprit of re-using and recycling this is a request going out to anybody that knows me and sees me out an' about quite regularly. Does anybody have any old 7" and 12" Record Mailers and assorted cardboard stiffeners lurking about in cupboards or gathering dust in the cellar that they want rid off? Well I'll take them off your hands gladly. Likewise does anybody on here in the course of their work or home life regularly receive those loose void fill polystyrene packing chips or summat similar? without being picky it depends on what you define as "hard to find". Have you any examples of things you're after or is it just a general bit of advice? Very true Gareth - but there's a massive difference between those that have got the record and those that want to sell it (laughs). You took the words right out of my mouth Bob. The 3 best sites to find records I can think of are 1. Soul Source - gotta be the best starting point, keep regularly checking (daily if possible) the sales section. You could put a wants list up but you run the danger of alerting other collectors to desirable records that they may or may not know which increases competition to find the very record you're after. 2. Ebay - whatever record you're after has probably been through Ebay before or will do in the future. Again check daily if possible or set up an email alert for a specific want. 3. Google - just bang all the details into this search engine, press enter and see what pops out. Hope this helps, derek

Anybody got an original copy of Kenard "What Did You Gain By That" on Dore that they'd be willing to let go? Cash is tight my end so my only payment options at the moment are trade and/or part cash part trade. Originals are single sided (had one in the mid 80's and sold it for £40 or summat). Mmmm think you've a fair point there Kris - I knew next to nothing about this label apart from the odd 1 or 2 releases and then over the last 6 months or so I noticed some oddball funk things on the label fetching big figures on Ebay. There's more to this label than meets the eye I thought, wonder what else is tucked away on there, hence my suggestion. But on digging about a bit I did come across a fair few - as Kris states - cajun accordian shredfests which did sorta dampen my enthusiasm to start compiling a listing for the label somewhat.
