What a good record that is Gaz - always a bit surprised more people don't rave over it. Flip side "Let's love now" ain't too shabby either. None of the above whilst moderately interesting actually helps you to obtain a copy. But my next line might.... Have a look through the most recent sales posts I'm fairly certain earlier tonight I saw a copy listed somewhere for £30. derek Wasn't this LaSalle label from Chicago or summat? It had nothing to do with the one out of Detroit (Utopias etc....)

Thinking outside the box (pun intended) it could've been a limited exclusive UK promo whoes release then got shelved hence it's inclusion not showing up via Google. Or even a limited foreign promo from Brazil or whatever.. Finally it might have even been some sort of unofficial not fully legit promo? There must be some detailed Bobby Womack discography sites out there somewhere to cross reference. Another long shot is looking for websites that have documented Robbie Vincent's radio playlists over the years. derek You could even wade through YouTube over a cup o' coffee. You could also search Discogs.

Suggestions For Todays Topical Record
Derek Pearson replied to Derek Pearson's topic in All About the SOUL
Ha ha ha you see I told ya... And we're off derek x Mi dog's welded herself onto the radiator and is snoring away happily. Completely unaware of the impending drag round in the snow for a couple of hours routine. I can just hear her saying "if you think I'm going out in all that snow........" -
A bit too obvious I know and I'm sure those with a much sharper wit than I can think of alot more inventive suggestions — but hey I’m just an ideas man..... derek J.J. Barnes “Snowflakes” (Volt)

After reading about Sonny Allen's 45 on Canadian Reo it got me thinking..... Have we ever done a thread on northern rarities that were also released on Canadian labels (as well as in America etc) and also whilst we're on the subject what about northern rarities that were only ever released in Canada. Must admit those Canadian labels do look very nice indeed. I ain't got much knowledge to add to this thread myself but I'm sure between us all we have.... derek Label scans most welcome Released in Canada: Little Charles "Talkin' about you babe" (Decca) Little Charles "It's a Heartache" (Decca) Released only in Canada: Tiaras "Surprise" (Op-Art) as discovered by Andy Dyson just a few years ago; also a Butch c/up at the time Mighty Pope "If you want a love affair" (RCA) his version of the Jesse James song Eddie Spencer (Arc) Mmm could be getting a bit confused with this release?

Vee Allen's first ever 45. Had never actually seen a copy of this before, one of the harder Twinight releases to obtain so I'm told. Not my record (I wish), acquired label scan from an Ebay auction mid 2012. Her version of the classic Al Perkins song. -

Another Gospel CD front cover. Assume it's the same geezer that cut for Audio Arts and Audio Forty in the sixties. -

Front cover of her Gospel CD from a few years ago. Seem to recall her first ever release was on Twinight (as Velma Perkins); she later cut for Lion Records (as Vee Allen). -

Eddie Owen aka Eddie Billups 4 track 12inch LP (Sound Of Gold SG8383) Sound Of N.Y. & Tennessee A: Shake Off That Dream 3:36; Sweet Sweet Love 5:01 B: Dynamite Explosion 4:10; Try Something New 3:25 Run Out Etchings: scratched SG8383A / B Label: clean gold paper both sides - Excellent Vinyl: deep shine & gloss both sides; odd light surface mark - Excellent I play timed each track to confirm duration. Offers are invited for this rare twelve. Looking at £100+. PM to discuss. Aiming to post up a sound clip asap. There have been several threads over the years discussing the various releases by Eddie Billups. I've done a quick cut an' paste of details from these threads which are pertinent to the above twelve. "Two different mixes though - Garpax and Solid Gold are identical, as far as I know.. This is true! Garpax & Solid Gold are a later and therefore more 'discofied' mix with a twangy bass thing going on. He then (some years later) put the remix out on his own Solid Gold label. I got "Shake off that dream" on a four track 12" EP credited to Eddie Owen. Label is Sound of Gold and it's the Garpax / Solid Gold version. I have the Eddie Owen 12" - bought from London's Bluebird records during the early 80's. It's on Solid Gold, not Sound of Gold". Links to previous threads: I thank you, derek

Black Bishop “Hard Times” 3:24 / “All Cried Out” 3:17 (S.O.D. Records) previously unissued 1966 recording re-released on vinyl 45 in April 2008. Listed and described as Heavy Funk which possibly explains why it’s slipped out under the radar by many members on here. Well to my ears it falls squarely in the gritty deep soul category. And as most rare soul collectors love a bit of intrigue with their records this was originally pressed in 1966 on a run of just 3 test pressings and never circulated. Turns out the singer Black Bishop was a Bronx gravedigger. OK to be honest the singers no Eddie Parker and it probably won’t feature in many peoples Top 100 but overall it’s still a pretty good double sider — previously unissued mid sixties deep soul for less than a fiver, depending on where you buy it, what more do you want? Flip side sounds less intense and uncluttered and maybe even shades the top side. Check usual suspects Ebay and Discogs for copies. Colin Dilnot’s blog: 'Hard Times' https://indangerousrhythm.blogspot.co.uk/2007/08/black-bishop.html ‘Hard Times’ full length sound clip: Hear clips of both sides: https://www.deep.hu/catalog/SOD1996 derek

Record Boxes I have owned and loved
Images added to a gallery album owned by Derek Pearson in Albums 2012
Over the years I've had loads of record boxes and never really thought much about them. But now they are getting so much harder to find I see them in a different light. I don't collect them as such though I usually take a picture of them before they say goodbye. -
