  1. Hey up Chalky - as I'm a borderline obsessive hoarder you won't be surprised to know that I've got carrier bags full of old flyers secreted in various rooms upstairs. Once I've moved all the unwanted stuff I never knew I needed I can pull some old flyers out and give them some air. Probably got spares as well (don't ask....) if I have, I'll post them down to you. Otherwise it will have to be scans I'm afraid. Derek
  2. Got my copy for a couple o' dollars from the floor of a garage somewhere in Philadelphia mid 1990's. Didn't know it but it looked pretty interesting. You wouldn't leave it would ya. Flogged it to an old buddy of mine (Craig Butler of Brighouse) for summat like £30 or so middle of last year. Then only a week or so later Mister Manship's auction ended and the news broke of the figure it realised. Once I'd stopped crying I shrugged mi shoulders and thought nah thirty was a fair price what the hell. And finally Andy Rix once told me that the flip side "If I was an orange" was used in a TV commercial or summat. Derek x
  3. You've gotta be joking eh?.....I can't even jump off the top board at the swimming baths. By 1:25 I'd have feigned injury, turned round and rung a taxi. It's just so wrong. No, No, No, No, No, No............. Derek
  4. How neat is that? What a great historical item. derek
  5. Blimey my mind always told me that there weren't any issues of this 45 (think I read it somewhere years ago). Well ya learn summat new everyday. Nice One. Derek x
  6. Source: Popsike with jukebox strip (file under 'Popular') For the record I can smugly state that I have never owned (or even considered the thought of even owning) the said record. Phew my conscience is clear and I can sleep easy tonight. I remembered it as being bad but couldn't recall what it sounded like. Then YouTube quickly reminded me that my first impressions were correct. About as soulful as a bag o' crisps and as white as the driven snow. But as a pure dance record - at that time - that could move a big dance floor you can see why it went massive. And finally for the record I can state that I have never owned (or even considered the thought of even owning) the said record. Derek x
  7. Hey up Chalky - nice photo but I'm unable to offer any suggestions as to who they might be. I know you're pretty well clued up re IT stuff and more than likely you've already tried this but what about retracing your steps through your Web History? Derek Oh and lets try an' arrange summat re you guesting on BCB soon eh?
  8. Derek Pearson saying it for soul all eras all styles Saturday 30th March 2013 21.00-22.00pm. Bradford Community Based Radio BCB 106.6FM Once more we carry on regardless saying it for soul by playing a weird and wonderful selection of them old soul 45s. Music other stations can’t play or won’t play. On tonight’s show it’s with great pleasure that we welcome into the BCB studios for the very first time Cliff Steele that most well known DJ/Collector from Northampton. In amongst other places he DJ’s at Cliff is currently one of the residents at the influential Lifeline all-nighters. I’ve known Cliff a long time and due to him working on a contract up north I was able to persuade him to venture over the Pennine’s into the studio for his radio debut. If you would like to hear the show live there’s 2 ways to go about it — if you live within say 10 miles of the BD1 based studio tune your radio to the 106.6 frequency on your FM dial and you should be able to get it. Failing that go through the wonders of the World Wide Web on www.bcbradio.co.uk and hear it streamed live out of your PC. You can also listen to some previous shows (up to 2 months maximum) by accessing the BCB home page www.bcbradio.co.uk then clicking on the Listen Again button (top left corner of the page). Scroll backwards on the calendar to find the relevant dates. Then click on the date and all the specialist shows between 8pm and 4am will be shown. On finding my name you have the choice to either listen to it or download it. My regular schedule on BCB Radio is 2 weeks on 2 weeks off so the next pair of shows will be on Saturday’s 20th & 27th April. Guests on those 2 weeks will hopefully be Colin Wood and Matthew Simpson. Derek playlists to follow asap.
  9. Probably one of the few occasions when I've actually gasped out aloud when looking at a record label. Courtesy of Popsike one seriously naughty scan. RARE Northern Soul LARRY CLINTON She's Wanted End price: USD 6767 End date: 2010-05-21 Start price: USD 10 Start date: 2010-05-14 Number of bids: 14 Auctioned at: ebay Country: USA derek x
  10. Stumbled upon this lot last night.. Ideal for anybody that collects or wants to look at some great original promo photos from the 1960’s & 70’s. Most have been seen before but still.... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Cody-Black-1967-10-x-8-US-Agency-Publicity-Photo-/171009098107?pt=UK_Music_Music_Memorabilia_LE&hash=item27d0efc17b And have a look at their completed listings as well. Derek Can't recall seeing Little Gi Gi on Decca before though
  11. Hey up chaps - which side are we talking about? Presume/assume it's "Found Someone"? Had forgotten just how good this side was. Can't even recall which side I first bought it for. derek
  12. Mmmm it's interesting you say that - 'Move On Up' was before my time and I always sort of assumed it was initially a big underground northern hit which then crossed over into the pop charts. So wasn't 'Move On Up' played much as a new release then on the northern scene? And the reason this thread caught my eye was that only a few days ago after I'd been out walking mi dog near Shipley I called into a co-op in Saltaire on mi way home for some bits n bats. As I was bending over to examine the fresh bread 'Move On Up' came on over the in house radio. It still sort of shocks me somewhat to hear it in places like this but I do feel an element of pride knowing that our scene helped to make it the classic it is. And just like The Beatles its the sort of track you'll hear every now and again on the radio or where ever till the day I die. To be honest I could never dance to it as it's so bleeding fast - does anybody know what its BPM is? Still love to hear it though - uplifting is such a great word to describe it. And from a collectors point of view - it wasn't a hit on release in America, that's why US copies are pretty rare and a lot more expensive (seen demo's @ £50 last year). Derek
  13. Phew I thought that only happened to me...... I distinctly recall having this mad month sometime back end of last year where I suddenly remembered and thought about searching for a particular record. A record that I hadn't looked for before so it wasn't in my saved searches. I stumbled upon at least 4 records I would have eagerly bid on and wanted to win. One record I rated at £50+ went for £30-ish whilst another I thought was about £125+ just scrapped above £50. This weirdness hasn't happened since. And NO it isn't good fun 'cos I wanted them hahaha. Derek
  14. Blimey that was lucky Adey as I was just playing the record last night so have it to hand. James Wayne deadwax markings My last letter (scratched 90880-A QCA) / I found someone (90880-B QCA) And finally as we say up north get ya bolloxs round these My Last Letter I’ve found someone Hey up Tony nice to chat albeit briefly last Friday in Wigan. derek x
  15. I just want to publicly praise and thank Joe Torquay via this forum for all the time and effort he put in to make a successful and very satisfactory transaction. Nice One. Derek
  16. Just checked Popsike to find only one Sussex original documented. BILLY WOODS "Let Me Make You Happy" (Sussex 213) End price: USD 5750 End date: 2007-07-11 Start price: USD 100 Start date: 2007-07-04 Number of bids: 19 Description/Condition (from the seller): Here's one of the rarest NORTHERN SOUL 45s from the 70s - Billy Woods' "Let Me Make You Happy" b/w "That Was the Love That Was". I found this record in a box of exclusively BUDDAH label related 45s that I uncovered while cleaning out one of my record stores' storage areas. There were hundreds of records on the Sussex, Buddah, Kama Sutra, Cobblestone and Smobro labels, 95% of which were promos and none of which appeared to have been used. They probably were from a label rep who retired in Virginia Beach, Va. I recall winning them at an auction there years ago and simply must have forgotten about them. This record is in beautiful VG+ ('a' side') to VG++ ('b' side) condition, with the important 'b' side being the cleanest. It appears to be unused, but does have a few very light sleeve scuffs. It's a "DJ" copy that is clearly marked "NOT FOR SALE", and has bright, clean, centered labels. It comes with the original Buddah label inner sleeve. And also at the risk of answering my own questions (hahaha) Popsike made me reckon the Billy Woods on Verve is the same geezer we’re on about — check the label on “I don’t want to lose your love” to see Sussex Productions Inc. It's all good fun innit. Derek
  17. Has anybody ever seen a discography of the label complete or otherwise? Where about's does the Billy Woods 45 fit in time wise? Is there anything else on the label which suffered the same or similar fate as "Let me make you happy"? And finally is this the only known release by him? Where did he come from? And where did he go? Derek
  18. Word was and I don't know how true it is that JA picked up a finger full. When he went back the rest had gone ... but where? I've said it before and I'll say it again.....of all the people who need to be interviewed at great length for a book John Anderson is top of my list. He's probably found, seen and looked at more records than any other person dead or alive. He's probably forgot more than everybody on this forum put together knows. If he said yes - I'd switch the tele off, lock the front door and set off to Kings Lynn now. Derek The scene that we're all a part of was built on and around that man.
  19. Hi Mark - sorry haven't got either copy of your want for sale however if you don't locate said 45 you're welcome to use the scan of my copy which I sold earlier this year. derek
  20. To assist you in your search - and for anybody else that's interested - check this website out which archives old radio shows from Radio 1 & 2 www.radiorewind.co.uk Keep it 45 Derek
  21. It's impossible not to agree with everything that's been said about Mister Dale. Amazing how he turned up on a major label like Atco without being recommended on the strength of some sort of local release first? It's possible he was in a group that Atco was already familiar with so consequently they knew the standard of his voice. After a little bit of persuasion they convinced him to ditch the rest of the group and go all out solo for the big time that beckoned... Who knows? Derek Derek

  23. pretty sure you spotted them on Ebay recently but there was a geezer from Turkey selling quite a lot of UK Sue 45's all in Excellent condition - flogged at least 10-15 as far as I recall - Jackie Day & Kelly Brothers spring to mind. Got good prices for them all as well. Derek
  24. Every time I look at this photo I can hear myself going "got got got - not got - got got got". And sorry Harry I beg to differ re 'Rod's hand with cigarette'.....a closer inspection of the cigarette revealed the name of Lambert & Butler and I know for a fact he never smokes them....... Was there the night a friend of mine bought a Cecil Washington off them for £100 (gasp & gulp) . A photograph was taken to record the event. derek
  25. It certainly is a very nice record Jim. Blimey £10 eh? - these days you'd struggle to buy a box of matches for that...... derek x
