Dust, pigeon shit and tons of old records. This wasn't LA or even Detroit. Beginning of this week just over 10 miles from my house. Can you dig it? Derek

Derek Pearson with guest Angus Oldfield from Barnsley. Saturday 26th April 2014 21.00-22.00pm. Bradford Community Based Radio BCB 106.6FM Fasten your safety belts and buckle up as we welcome back into the BCB studios one of Barnsley’s finest and a long time collector of all things soulful Mister Angus Oldfield. It’s his fourth visit to the BCB studios he tells me — phew how time flies an’ all that. Once more we continue saying it for soul and carry on regardless by playing a weird and wonderful selection of them old soul 45s. Saying it for soul all eras all styles all over the place........hohoho If you would like to hear the show live there’s 2 ways to go about it — if you live within say 10 miles of the BD1 based studio tune your radio to the 106.6 frequency on your FM dial and you should be able to get it. Failing that go through the wonders of the World Wide Web on www.bcbradio.co.uk and hear it streamed live out of your PC. You can also listen to some previous shows (up to 2 months maximum) by accessing the BCB home page www.bcbradio.co.uk then clicking on the Listen Again button (top left corner of the page). Scroll backwards on the calendar to find the relevant dates. Then click on the date and all the specialist shows between 8pm and 4am will be shown. On finding my name you have the choice to either listen to it or download it. Derek DeePee’s playlist possibly includes: The Volcanos, The Velvelettes, Chuck Bernard, Tom Jones, The Dynamics, Jerry Townes, Bettye Swann, The Seminole and Ronnie Walker. More details to follow shortly. Angus Oldfield’s playlist of twelve to include: Don Gardner, Matt Brown, William Bell, Ready Willing & Able, Johnny Moore, Jimmy Soul Clark, Pat Lundy, Jimmie Raye, The Phonetics, Bobby Bland, Jimmy McCracklin and Gene Chandler. More details to follow shortly. My next show is in 2 weeks time on Saturday 10th May, then a further 2 weeks later on Saturday 24th May. One week on one week off, one week on one week off........that’s my schedule. Guests to be confirmed last minute as usual.......

Hands up those that think this thread symbolizes and epitomizes the helpful cooperation that exists on this forum sometimes. Blimey that was quite a tricky thread to unravel - got there in the end - nice one chaps. Derek

many people on this forum are often irritated and/or annoyed by the way northern soul is portrayed through television. If you think we have a hard time of it how do you think Morris Dancers feel about it? We all know how television often portrays them in a none weird, none eccentric light don't we? I bet Morris Dancer forums spit blood at the way mainstream media routinely portrays them. Derek

Ray Pollard 'this Time' (Shrine 0103) Offers Invited On Hold
Derek Pearson replied to Derek Pearson's topic in Record Sales
But that's the point Tony sharing it on Facebook probably would increase my chances of selling it. Summat I'm not too keen on (smile). Hope our paths cross soon - when you next up north? Say hello to Jet for me. Derek -

Ray Pollard 'this Time' (Shrine 0103) Offers Invited On Hold
Derek Pearson replied to Derek Pearson's topic in Record Sales
Of that there is no doubt. I thank you. Derek -
ON HOLD Purchased this record way back in the mid eighties and it's been well cared for with kid gloves ever since. It was never stressed through DJ exertions and didn't receive constant multiple plays in house. There was no need to play it as I knew what it sounded like note for note in my head and it was placed safely on a very high pedestal. So it's a reluctant sale really and I'd love to hint at the reason for selling it was to fund a long time big money want but I can't. I never actually want to sell many or any records out of my collection to be honest really - but needs must some times. So if you're interested please send your best offer via multiple PM's if needs be. I'll give it a couple o' weeks and see what transpires. If I get an offer that I'm happy with there's a good chance Ray will be leaving for pastures new. If I don't Ray will go happily back into his box whistling while he walks. Labels A & B side attached. The styrene has very light surface marks with no hiss and is hard line under graded at VG++. I thank you. Derek YouTube clips added purely for reference (not taken from copy on sale)

Uk Camp And Evolution Record Sleeves Wanted
Derek Pearson replied to Denbo's topic in General Sales & Wants
That William Amos Hunt 45 on UK Camp would look pretty neat I'm sure with a Camp sleeve wrapped around its shoulders. Can't help with any of the sleeves sorry. Derek -

Fresh from winning the Dance competition again (2 years on the trot now) I can be seen impressing nobody with some new moves on that famed dance floor. I'd just done a pretty neat two thirds declining pirouette with a double jack knife half nelson twist. It took me hours to get that green skirt to hang right. -

Only one of a handful of occasions when our gang travelled east - we didn't handle well going in that direction, summat to do with the earth's rotation so I'm told - it was go west, go west and go west young man every time for us. The trains were easier to jump that way and Ince was quite pretty late at night. -

From the album: It was never the same after 1978
In that time period we must've covered hundreds and hundreds of miles wandering up and down the length of this countries motorways in search of loud music and the perfect beat. Our vehicle of choice was Ray North's bright yellow Tree Surgeon's van for that inconspicuous look. We laughed at the mere suggestion of padded seats in the back. 2 bright blue plastic milk crates turned upside down was all we had to share between us if we were lucky. An hour on that and you'd have DairyLea stamped on your arse for a month. You try and explain that in the showers after 5-a-side every Monday like I did for several years. -

Ya can keep all those fancy clubs with their high flying state of the art sound systems with lazers, smoke machines and disco balls that go round and round an stuff. Bah when I wor a lad all ya needed was 2 tiny beer tables and an ashtray. Looks like RW in action. -
