  1. That is sad to hear. Whatever he thinks of this site and some of the people on it is irrelevant in the face of such a blow. Also have a great family friend who suffered one about three or fours years ago. The road to recovery has been a long and arduous one but it's amazing how the body can respond over time. Wish him all the very best for a speedy recovery.
  2. I have the Juana one, dated 1981, 4,31 secs. Listening to it on Youtube, I see there's one on Sho Me, dated 1982 but 4,12 secs... Which is the scarcer of two or are they about the same. Nice Soul record.
  3. Shocking level of literacy. He looks an objectionable sort too.
  4. It's this one! Just paypalled you. Cheers, M.
  5. Nina Simone was definitely a West Hampstead, early 100 Club tune, where it most definitely fit in with other left field stuff R&B and Jazz influenced stuff. Hearing it transplanted to a more Northern event like the Fleet allniter was odd though.
  6. I think you may have got the chronological order the wrong way round Byrney. I've been poised over my keyboard all day waiting for this sweet moment.
  7. The geographical data will confirm that this whole thing has gone way beyond a bunch of beyond middle age codgers in the UK. Well done Ian, Gareth, Elaine and all the others who've worked on this project.
  8. Mike Rollo is name I remember from the posters... He's no longer with us either, I believe...
  9. Seem to a remember a bust for possession of cannabis in America too, back when lots of pop stars were getting busted. Not sure if he went to prison though.
  10. Love that Joe Matthews A side. Beyond my means though, sadly.
  11. Mick Smith plays ANYCD, at least he did the last time I was at the 100 Club, December 2006. Tremendous record.
  12. The very nature of this thread demonstrates we're all a bit two stops before Dagenham, but don't you just love it!
  13. Grim news to wake up to, indeed. Time to reflect and listen to his marvellous legacy. RIP.
  14. Great stuff Pete. An extremely well written piece too. Nice to know we're especially intense. :-)
  15. I liked the book and don't think the drug side was overplayed. Gear was an integral part of the experience for many folk. I remember nights at Peterborough when it was scarce or just bad shite, 80% of the punters would be seriously glum as a result. Agree with everyone else's views on the scene being dragged down years ago, even The Goodies had a pop, ffs. I don't personally know Elaine but you can tell she's committed. Love her enthusiam and eloquence. Looking forward to seeing it!
  16. I'm reminded what a great record this is.
  17. Can't believe this awful bolt out of the blue. He'll be sorely missed. RIP.
  18. I prefer Barranco de Bugalú. Never get stuck up a Barranco in October....
  19. The ghost of Dave Godin has now left the room... Chuntering about coverups...
  20. It's funny, but I always remember it being that way. We've all sneered and been sneered at at one time or another, surely. I'm sure you must have uttered the word "div" at least once on your passage through this "scene" of ours. It's been replaced with words like "numpty", "handbagger" and "non-scene goons" today though. Nice to have alternatives...
  21. Indeed. Gene Chandler spoke of the fellas on the scene treating him and his ex cold and mean. Good for GC, good for us... Movement is more political to my mind. Collective could also be applied... At least in Spain it could. We are a collective...
