  1. Not sure I grasp this Simsy. Too long in exile.
  2. If Mr. Quinvy of Barnoldswick was skeptical before seeing the film and quite unimpressed after seeing it, then that's his prerogative. Aren't we allowed to dissent, ffs? Viva the single mindset!! I'm looking forward to seeing it on DVD and will reserve my judgement till then.
  3. Better be quick! :-)
  4. Little shit's a bit strong, isn't it Drew? Poor bugger's being lynched for being vertically challenged as well as gobshitey?
  5. I only remember skinners being worn at half mast with airwear, so if people started wearing them today they'd look just as clown like as the others.
  6. Mr. Faye's a Peterborough lad. Nearly 40 years since we gathered in The Bell & Oak on Cathedral Square before heading over to the superb niters at the Wirrina ballroom. I hear you have a regular allniter starting soon, in what used to be Annabelle's nightclub in Bridge Street. Wonder if the re-enactment crowd will flood that once it gets going. Enjoy your Soul mate!
  7. They sound absolutely fantastic. I never fell out of love with instrumentals. Tremendous musicianship.
  8. Although many of us are probably too proud to admit it, it was the track the dumbfounded us upon first hearing in 1974 with Solid Soul Sensations. We didn't say 'wtf?' In those days but it was thereabouts...
  9. Benji, I guess if I werr selling myself I couldn't bring myself to put an EX grade on it. He hasn't listened to it and the label is rather fooked, isn't it? If it's worth $300 as a rare Phillipine release then fair enough. I may be wrong but I tend to view record gradings as a whole, both vinyl and labels.
  10. Nice one Kegsy. I was aware of CM being the author of the tune but hadn't got around to listening to it. Not sure I prefer it to Patti Jo, but it's very good all the same.
  11. This guy is having a laugh describing this 'visually graded' PJ as EX, isn't he? $300 too... I'd love a minter of this. Heard it out a couple of weeks back and it sounded amazing, really amazing... Packed the floor too... https://www.ebay.com/itm/Rare-Funk-Soul-PATTI-JO-Make-Me-Believe-In-You-PHILIPPINES-WND-45-06-/111437822022?pt=Music_on_Vinyl&hash=item19f2363846
  12. gadzooks!!
  13. Anthony White - Never Gonna Let You Get Away From Me?
  14. We pay that for records and more! Emailed you mate.
  15. I don't think it will Toad. If you think about how the Mod Revival impinged on the Northern Scene in 1979, a mere 15 years or so after the death of Mod in the south of England. We're 40 years after the events portrayed in this film. If youngsters are attracted, they'll want to do their own thing in their own venues, surrounded by people that lóok, walk and talk like them. That would be what I would want if I were 18 again. I can't imagine beer swillers our age being remotely interested in it to tell the truth. It's abouth youth, something we all lost touch with decades ago, sadly. TIme waits for no-one!
  16. Some might say the same about That Beatin' Rhythm? Both are cornerstones of the scene. Richard Temple on a Mirwood promo looks nicer though. :-)
  17. Sone also have a vested interest in carping from the sidelines it seems.
  18. Bless their cottons. Loved it.
  19. Brilliant. One of my favourite ever sounds too. Well done indeed, Dave.
  20. Thank you guys. Good to know!
  21. When was this first played? As I wasn't on the scene post 85, it's essentially a new sound to me, and one which has blown me away. If I hadn't read Kirsty's (think it was Kirsty) sales post a while back, I'd have been none the wiser. When I heard it at VaVa Voom in May, full whack, in a crowded room full of dancers I kind of welled up, and a mate of mine too, who's known the record a lot longer than me. One never stops learning on this scene.
  22. Surely this is all about taste (and tempos)? I wouldn't give "Don't Be Sore At Me" house room, hated it then, still do. I think Fortson & Scott and Benny Harper are as good as ANYTHING I heard in the 70s, and at the risk of sounding controversial, that funky edged Kings Of Soul thing on Down To Earth too. I certainly don't see myself as superior to anyone who rejects these records. After all, I did buy Bunny Sigler "Follow Your Heart" the other day. To embrace or not embrace, that is the question.
  23. C'mon Geoff, let's be 'avin' them photos of you in your yoof.
  24. Fascinating chaps. Keep it comin'!
  25. Aren't the Skullsnaps popular with Funk collectors..?
