  2. well that's great to hear. nice to know he's still with mary too. so he has a record business in rothwell? would anybody have a phone number/email for him?
  3. I still have faith in humanity I'm afraid. I'd like to think it's all been a horrendous mistake. he has 100% feedback. I think he's made a mistake, in fact I'm sure of it. who would jeopardise a track record of 392 transactions over twenty frigging quid? macca.
  4. I think it would be premature of me to name names at this stage, but yes, he's a uk seller. the record was the mob 'open the door to your heart' on daylight records.
  5. would have thought so. will give him another 7 days & then take the appropriate action. he does say that he will take any record back if you're not satisfied with the purchase. ya veremos, as they say in spain... M
  6. he anybody remember mike? nice chap. used to collect & sell some nice stuff. used to drive a nice MGB around 82. remember going to the fleet all-nighter & he was on his way out saying sod this I'm going to the 100 club. we 'flew' down to london that night. I often wonder if he's still about... M
  7. Hi all, I made my first duff Ebay purchase in 5 years this week. the item in question was listed 'Check Scan 100% original great oldie'. I bid for the record (nobody else did ) & won it. the record arrived yesterday & I stuck it on the deck as pleased as punch. then whilst trawling through JM's list I decided to check the record out. it turns out I've bought a boot. the original is considerably different to the thing I've bought. I feel gutted. I have contacted the seller, but so far no word. ho-hum...I guess the moral of the story is to always double check a record's 'lineage'. what would you do in these circumstances? Mac.
  8. christ I can think of some worse records pedro. I think bobby kline is tremendous. love the gals on backing vocals. nice plaintive lyrics too. all in all, a top drawer sound, whatever that means.

  11. I think some of the guys on the soulful detroit forum have had contact with her 'cos a mate showed me her business card recently. he was over there last summer, meeting tobi lark & a guy from the magic tones as well. I'll ask him for some more info... cheers, macca
  12. I believe Shinjuku is a kind of Kings Cross in Tokyo. How would these records have found their way to Japan? Via US bases/Radio Stations? M
  13. could it be you / I'd like to know - sharon scott - RCA what a record!! when I first heard this, which wasn't that not long ago, I thought, bugger me, this is precisely why I got into this music in the first place. how did it pass me by back then? is it true it was a searling spin? that intro, the horns, the minimalist guitar work & the lady's soaring vocals. I'm rambling... macca
  14. I think mossy's comment was tongue- in-cheek guys, but I know where you're coming from as well. the idea of trading gijon, barcelona, madrid, la coru±a, salamanca, cordoba, san sebastian, bilbao etc, for... peterborough... it doesn't even bear thinking about. I'll be over in december with some spanish friends, but rest assured, their desire to 'take over' the country, admittedly by force, was lost at the naval battle of gravelines in 1588. macca pontevedra galicia nw spain.
  15. I always enjoyed his manic style behind the decks. peterborough soul folk will always be fond of tony dellar.
  16. but don't mr diamond's comments suggest there WAS a re-recording? an overdubbed vocal perhaps? macca
  17. it sounds like cod disco to me, but then again I'm a troglodyte 60's soul lover. what would I know?
  18. the song is masterpiece full stop. billie holiday had a unique voice, languid, sultry, broken at times, definitely awe inspiring. love those photos of her with the gardenia in her hair. a tortured lady by all accounts. rejected by blacks for her almost white looks & also rejected (at first) by white hypocrites who preferred the 'real thing' ie big, loud & 'vulgar' singers like bessie smith. thanks pete!
  19. leave the spanish outta this please & yes, I like cathedrals too, the largest & most spectacular of which are in spain of course. sevilla, toledo, burgos, le³n etc; etc; this thread was interesting at the start, but soon turned into gratuitous blood-letting. shame on you! but say three 5 our fathers & three hail marys & your sins shall be absolved... yours, the pope of eruke.
  20. he admitted he shook a leg in spain this year ( luanco asturias weekender) must've been the cider... macca
  21. why did you guys disapprove of him? 'cos he's white & from scotland?
  22. I don't want to appear chauvinist jo, 'cos I'm not. perhaps I should have used 'mainly a male preserve' instead of 'strictly'. I do think you would have been conspicuous by your presence in record bars back then. & of course, you're right about the grooves. best, macca
