  1. any idea what this is fetching these days? cheers macca.
  2. comes across loud & clear to me. the only problem is that once the zargrogians have been defeated, there's no guarantee that that unity will prevail. I'm sure that the zargrogians are no worse than the third reich or the japanese imperial army though. does the enemy have to come from without? smokey always speaks sense. that's why he's smokey robinson. america's greatest poet.
  3. I missed the JH Hoot this year, being up in auld reekie for a wind torn hogmanay. I did see it last year though & thought irma thomas's performance a little on the muted side, as if she was holding back or something. I agree with martint that JH is an appalling sycophant, very difficult to stomach indeed, but he's bringing the howard tates of this world to a potentially new & cd buying public & they, I'm sure, must be grateful for that. as far as PW is concerned, just not my cup of tea, then or now. if actually pushed, I'd have to endorse elvis costello, a tremendous lyricist & bonafide soulboy, as revealed on the wonderful 'get happy' album & recent collaboration with alan toussaint. I've also been reliably informed that he's a cousin of mine. blood is thicker than water, oh' yes... happy new year all!!
  4. issue resolved amiccably & satisfactorily. thanks for your nuggets of wisdom guys. macca.
  5. muchas gracias gentlemen. we'll see what happens next...
  6. a weird one this one. I've just bought a record on ebay. the seller states clearly in his item description he accepts paypal. I paid the due amount instantly. the payment is still unclaimed, I send a query asking why. he replies telling me he doesn't accept paypal due to 'past probs' & can I send him a postal order or cash instead. if this goes awry & he continues to refuse payment via paypal. what the ferk do I do? will my credit card already have been charged? I've looked on paypal for info apertaining to unclaimed payments, but I can't find anything. help me por favor!! macca
  7. cheers for that. come to think of it, I think we've spoken before about the record. nice to see the scans though. I've been able to compare them with the record I've just received & all is well. I paid 40 quid for an EX copy, don't know if that's a lot or little, but I wanted the record badly. wooden nickels next. considerably rarer though. I wonder why? M
  8. am I right in thinking this was booted, but as an issue? would original copies be styrene white demos? macca.
  9. isley brothers - tell me it's just a rumour baby - tamla motown jeanette white - music - uk a&m demo try dancing to JW these days. reminds me of st.ives oldies room 1977... macca.
  10. here goes:- sharon scott - could it be you - RCA dushons - you better think it over - golden gate jerry cook - I hurt on the other side - capitol cody black - going going gone - ram-brock darrow fletcher - pain get's a little deeper - groovy all well received here. they're evidently people with taste...
  11. yeah, that's a point, should it be open to baggage laden expats as well as completely untainted 'foreigners'? if so, I'll chip in with my five. macca
  12. dave, that's 'muchas gracias'... :-)
  13. too right. I remember johnny moore was going through hard times a couple of years before he died & someone came up with the idea of the 'lonely heart in the city' CD. a compulsory purchase really. tough times or not.
  14. woe is me. thanks everybody for your help on this one. the moral of the story is to do a search on here first. this one sounds particularly grim though, a rogue copy of a known rogue? I must be a fussy git, 'cos my malibus also bugs me immensely. way over the top bass & chamber pot lead vocal. or maybe I'm just being a bit too pinickitty. as JM says, we didn't give a toss in the 70's. I'll let him send me another, it's already on its way back to the US.
  15. might post up a sound file of it for your perusal. dealer came right back with an offer to send me another copy. said he'd sold 6 of them with no complaints.
  16. Just bought what I thought was an 'unplayed' JC demo. it's looks perfect in every way, the label, the vinyl, the corporate sleeve. but on the deck it sounds muffled & bass heavy. is there a history on these? Excuse me while I weep a while. macca
  17. Roccia, you really must let your no LP's rule go matey. :-) I've just this morning received a pristine, 1968, US duke copy of Bobby Bland 'A Touch Of The Blues'. Sweet Lips Of Joy is simply a fantastic track. You know it makes sense... Macca.
  18. sorry to be the dissenting voice, but I can't stand any of his records, I couldn't then either, they always had me running for a bottle of coke. as an answer to the question, I would say 'ten to one' would have been the biggest of the three. it's to do with the voice I think. I have an issue with danny monday for the same reason. somebody call me a doctor... macca
  19. slightly off topic, but I read the other day that they can be life threatening, particularly to those with pacemakers fitted.
  20. Donner und blitzen! Hande hoch!!
  21. muchas gracias peeps. not ready to spend 200 sovs yet. :-) will check out the other double header though. saludos!
  22. This artist recorded several things for Backbeat, my favourite being 'Something Good's Got A Hold On Me'. But what about her other singles, apart from 'All Of A Sudden'? Anything worth going after there? Also, any idea on the current going rate for a mintyish copy of 'Something Good's'?
  23. ta shane.
  24. will be going down the 100 club on saturday for the first time since 1994. I'm taking a group of spanish friends & wondered if there was a 'feeder' event anywhere, be it a pub or a do in itself. any idea what time the bar in the 100 shuts up shop,? just to prepare myself for the inevitable whingeing from the spanish contingent.
