the idle few's version will always be my favourite. nikki hoekky is a fun r&b record, if that's dross, then I can think of a pile of others that might warrant that description. micky lee lane? bob kuban? the newbeats? john fred & the playboys? the vogues? the outsiders? or any record by b j thomas or the magnificent men? it's all white poop then, innit? we can safely say they played a lot of poop at the torch & yes, they were all off their ferkin' heads. let's not get too serious guys, we might lose our widgets.

what I find strange is that certain folk, who I remember looking quite cool, back in 1976, with proper shirts, tailored jackets, waistcoats, ties etc; have taken to wearing baggier strides that don't look 'bespoke' & the inevitable black t-shirt & white belt. when we were 18 with a bullet, there was no stopping us, & some of us took the dress thing more seriously than others, I guess it's the same in 2007. we all have different ways of 'expressing ourselves'. beauty is in the eye of the beholder I guess...

Very ugly. yate - a lot of people from my area started to flock to yate after st.ives closed. I heard lots of good reports but couldn't be arsed to make the trek. I regret it.

yep, mac, macky, mackie, maccy, macca, adey, ade etc, etc. I used to sing a rousing version of the dambusters theme in the coffee bar of the fleet with a guy from bedford called martyn. haven't seen rhyder for about 15 years & kate rudd has just put me back in contact with johnny barr, so I'll be contacting him pretty soon. I'll be doing the DKOF at christmas, so so if you're the martyn I know, get your dambusters theme dusted down!! saludos from spain! M

angie, I'm in regular contact with kate davis (formerly rudd) & you're right she was one of the best, if not the best of the peterborough area dancers. there's a nice shot of her dancing at a recent st.ives reunion, all blazing red hair & navy blue & white polka dot dress. cheers, macca (ex peterborough)

Steven Duke or Dukey (pronounced dooky). He died a few years back, I believe. Steve used to go out with a girl from the Market Deeping area called Shona McPhail. Can't help on the date of birth or address though.

I'm just wondering if the 'Loveman' ever knew about his 75/76 Turbo Records monster in the UK. Frankie, by all accounts, was a mega-star on the US scene. Trawling through Internet as you do, I came upon this bio of him. Sounds like really wild character. Read on: Frankie "Hollywood" Crocker (December 18, 1937, Buffalo, New York - October 21, 2000, North Miami Beach, Florida) was a famous New York radio DJ. (Coined "Hollywood" for his keen sense of showmanship and self-marketing tactics.) According to popeducation.org, Frankie began his career in Buffalo, then moved to Soul station WWRL New York before being hired by top-40 WMCA in 1969. He later worked for WBLS-FM as program director, taking that station to the top of the ratings during the late 1970's. He sometimes called himself the "Chief Rocker," and he was as well known for his boastful on-air patter as for his off-air flamboyance. When Studio 54 was at the height of its popularity, Crocker rode in through the front entrance on a white stallion. In the studio, before he left for the day, Crocker would light a candle and invite female listeners to enjoy a candlelight bath with him. Crocker was once linked to actress Jayne Kennedy after she divorced first husband Leon Issac Kennedy. At his peak, Crocker was the most famous black DJ in the world and the first to command and receive a six figure annual salary. His popularity was so immense, he worked in NY six months and worked the remaining six months in Los Angeles for a short time. Crocker died of pancreatic cancer in 2000.
