  1. Are you sure you heard it correctly.....sure it wasn't Washed Ashore? Or maybe......Time Will Pass You By.....ahem......hope thats not being too predicatble
  2. What a crock of sxxt. Truly awful, terrible lyrics. Reminds me why I got into the Northern scene - to get away from stuff like this. Col.
  3. Apologies if we've done this one before. Whats your best double sided record? Mines currently Towana - after recently refinding it! A side - Wear Your Natural Baby......sublime early 70s crossover* B side - Help Me Get That Feelin Back Again......late 60s northern dancer A side got 3 plays at Soul Essence last week-end so its obviously back in vogue. * Not sure if this would qualify as modern. If it does then Pete is obviously wrong with 1 of his major theories Col.
  4. 2 of the best Cds I've picked up recently have been freebies. Bidds Rare Soul Nite Capitol Soul Club - 5th anniv. The latter was put together by Kenny Burrell Both Cds are awesome. Thanks. Col.
  5. Johnny Howard - The Chase Is On Bashie Records (issue) Ovenchips 2nd edition has this priced at £25. Tim Brown has it priced at £150. Some difference. Whats a fair selling price? Was it ever booted? Cheers Col.
  6. That sorts that one out then!
  7. Anyone know if this was ever booted? If booted, is it easy to tell from the original? Cheers Col.
  8. "i was just interested in other peoples views." I know. And you probably didn't deserve that smart arse reply* But there again maybe you did. Trouble is you are asking the million dollar question & I don't think any body will be able to answer it. Its all down to personal preference. Here are a couple of examples: Dean Parish shouldn't have been able to cut the soulful records that he has. Ian Levine has struggled to make soulful records with all of Detroits finest behind the mike. Its a state of uncertainty & perplexity. *I'm expecting usual castigation from Karen.
  9. Dan - you stole my post! Was gonna stick this one up at the week-end. Track came courtesy of Rich above - Thanks Col.
  10. isthatwhiteboygotsoulanddoesn'tknowhowheacquiredit? Col.
  11. Have decided (in general) we are not worthy. Case to point - Ebony Alleyne. Whole Lp recorded & in the bag. Nobody now interested in releasing it. Col. ps In Love With A Stranger is my wifes fave record. Actually, thats a bit worrying.
  12. "Its not designed to be in the HMV shelves next to George Michael, just like it isnt designed to be played in the same clubs." In Town Mikey Fact: Last time I was HMV Oxford St., the northern soul section was situated next to the gay section. Most unsettling for us out of towners. I'm not sure how, but its got to be that Levine geezers fault. Col.
  13. No, the maths are good. But I said originally that we were including people who only went out once a month. I think you area assuming that the same people go out every week-end, We need to work out a way to average it out. Now I do beleive Chrisseo is ok with quadratic equations. Maybe she can help? Col.
  14. Blimey. I wasn't expecting a sensible reply. Just decided last nite (for no apparent reason) it was open season on Londoners! It still is today See you later
  15. Take the M6 toll. Works for me everytime. Col The Toll.
  16. I went on a new diet in January. I called it the Rocket Fuel diet.
  17. 47 posts & one half decent stab at a reply! I love you guys Seeing as you've all got your lateral thinking hats on - work this out. 6 million people in London - how come we can't get a second 'regular' all-niter up & running. Personally I blame Londoners. I think London is too good for 'em Col.
  18. I'm sure when you wrote this you knew what you meant. But, if you could be a little more specific for us mere mortals it would help. 'Go back to basics' is a rubbish statement. 'Just play dance music' is almost meaningless. Col.
  19. Hi chrissieo, whilst you're in light hearted mood though I'd add that your fave record Queen Of Fools almost got entered twice under 'Records That could Never Make A Comeback" & 'Records That Should Never Have Been Played' But as I was in semi - serious mood I never got round to it. Now what are we supposed to be discussing? Oh yeah......I'll come back to it. Col
  20. Its really fashionable to attack the Futures & Gayle Adams. I'm not sure if its either jumping on the bandwagon or a sort of pack mentality. 2 years ago they were absolute floor packers & appealed to the once a month crowd. Whoever introduced them made a lot of people happy. Surely you don't begrudge people that? Personally they are not favourites of mine, but I don't think they are bad records either. They both have strong lyrics and are surely 10 times better than any instrumental ever played. I await the onslaught. Col.
  21. Formed in late 70s by a bald headed geezer who looked a bit like Kojak. He DJ'd under the not truly original name of err.....Kojak. I think the aim was similar to one of Soul Sources - putting people in touch. "Networking" - thats 2 things I've said tonite that I regret ! Does any one have any info on the club? Any stories? Did it actually work? Col.
  22. Masters At Work 12" They do a lot of remixes & veer towards soulful garage. Generally more garage than soulful.
  23. Whoa........I'm not gonna argue with that! I simply dont know enough to start telling people whats northern soul and whats not. So my post was generalised. However, when the dance floor empties & people start complaining loudly I know something is a miss. Dave Rimmers post above illustrates the point well. Col.
  24. I'm not sure there's any real need to draw lines. If you're DJing in the northern room at Plinston stick to northern soul. When you're getting in right the dance floor will fill up, when you start going 'off message' the dance floor will clear. I dont agree with your earlier views but I respect your love for the scene. And you're a damn fine DJ. Can't believe I said that in public. Col.
