  1. Whilst checking out a few records that I've had sitting around since the year dot, I came across Sandi Sheldon. Ovenchips values at £600 for the version with large 45 on label & £30 for version with small 45 on. I of course have the version with the small 45 on! Is my version a legit re-issue. Its properly stamped up on the run out grooves, but the label is not that well stuck onto the record (looks like air bubbles got in there). Also in the box was Major Lance - You Don't Want Me No More. The guide doesn't distinguish between large & small 45s on this one. So I assume that it was only issued the once? Thanks for help. Col.
  2. Rant?........Sorry if you saw it that way. Sorry if you didn't like what you read. I saw it as an entertaining exchange of views. Although, its fair to say that not everybody did. It was also a good opportunity (the first time ever in print as far as I'm aware) to get a northern soul perspective on Reading. You mentioned "the chance of hearing Jazz Funk, northern and Modern" Every 3 months or so I'm involved with a nite up in Chalfont St Peter that does exactly that. I play some northern, Bomber plays Jazz-Funk & Stuart does a bit of both. And do you know what?........we all have a good laugh, no arguments! I also have fond memories of Frenchies......but please don't tell any one Yes OBJs was Hammersmith, absolutely storming nites. Ever do Sunday lunch times at the Belvedere near Ascot? We've obviously bumped into each other in the past.....may do so in the future? Best regards Col ps my brother & mates are just back from Caister - they enjoyed it!

  13. Just 5......why stop there? Back on thread, noticed a rather fetching photo of Cockney Mick, put up recently by John Buck in the gallery section. Col.
  14. Jamie, You may well be right. Its like living in a goldfish bowl down here. You see the same people every week Col.
  15. I agree with Mischief, but as we are way off topic I'll be brief. If you took all of the people from a mod/scooterist background out of the northern scene......there wouldn't be a scene left to talk about. Col.
  16. There's all sorts of versions there. If you can't find one you agree with, just make up one. Col
  17. Happy days indeed Dave Not sure about the date. Would be interested to know myself. The date has been documented in a few books on Jazz-Funk. and I think Mark Bicknell may know it. Its really suprising how many people are active on the n/s scene today who were at that all-dayer. After the all-dayer I thought the scene would disappear totally down south. Wrong again Smith
  18. Well of course I never went Col.
  19. Ok, my thoughts to follow. But, if you are thinking about going please don't let my comments put you off. Remember in my orig thread 16 other people in our group did go & they all seemed fairly happy with it. So, I'm probably a bit out of step. I didn't like the play's focus on drugs with-in the scene. My memories of Wigan are generally up beat and not particularly related to drugs. Sure they were around, but they weren't that important to a lot of people. You've never needed drugs to appreciate soul. Had I taken non-soulies to see the play I would have been embarrassed about the amount of references to drugs. When I'm watching a play or a film its important to me, to either like or dislike the characters. The actors portayed characters in the play that were a bit thick & superficial for my liking. After a while I just couldn't give a toss about them and their protracted arguments. I mostly liked the bits where the actors stopped ranting at each other & the music started. Would have been nice to hear 1 record that was played all the way through. Col Yes Stevie I did go to to the afternoon show so the theatre was a bit empty. That probably played a part.
  20. On Soul Source home page, there's a thread called Northern In The Home Counties, which has quite a bit of info on that momentous day. Which is now seen as the turning point for the Jazz Funk scene. Although looking back, it seems that everybody now has their own version of what actually happened, influenced by what side of the fence you were sitting on at the time Col.
  21. Last Saturday I saw the play 'Once upon a time in Wigan' There were a few good bits in it, but on the whole I didn't like it. Having said that I don't want to be overly negative & judgemental, as there were 16 other members in our group and most of them seemed to enjoy it. Just wondered if I'm alone! All opinions appreciated, both positive & negative. Col.
  22. Sorry mate 'universally accepted' does not read 'overplayed' The way I'm reading this thread is that the record should be acceptable to both sides of the scene - modern & northern. As we are primarily a dance scene you should be able to dance to it in the modern room (up & down) & in the northern room (side to side) So here's 5 that should fit the bill: Bobby Womack - Home Is Where The Heart Is Lou Pride - Bringin Me Back Home Towana - Wear Your Natural Baby Patrinell Staten - Little Love Affair Buddy Miles - Just A Kiss Away Col ps 'overplayed' reads 'cardinal sin' in my book. pps not a dig at you as you're a top DJ
  23. Played to death. Anybody considering playing this out should end up on a desert island. Col
