  5. Mike, don't feel bad, I know there will be plenty of other opportunities to deservedly kick my back side. Having said that I really did enjoy the balance of the show & quite like your site Col. Looking fwd to next weeks BBC show - "The Motown Review - Starring Dusty Springfield"
  6. Sorry for delay with reply. Belvedere was one of a kind. Actually jam packed on a sunday lunch time - 250/300 people?. Chris Brown was resident DJ and almost totally Jazz Funk. What the hell was I doing there! Having a good time!!.....I loved it. Due to its location between Ascot & Sunningdale it became a victim of of its own success. The locals, some of the wealthiest & most well connected, couldn't understand it and objected to it on that basis - IMO. The writing was on the wall when the police set up road blocks - stop & search etc. Met a guy at Prestatyn this year who went straight from the Goldmine & parked up in the car park at the Belvedere, waiting for it to open. Didn't do Pantiles, but did do Frenchies - both in Camberley. Pantiles seemed for an older set, Frenchies was Chris Brown. Col.
  7. Doesn't stand up too well these days but, It was the right record for the right time Col.
  8. Good news. I've been away for 24 hours & I seem to have achieved the near impossible, in uniting most of Source Scource ......(in disagreeing with me). Tomorrow I plan to single handedly tackle the Palestinian crisis. Col. PS its noted than none of you actually seemed to note the first part of the first sentence in my first post.
  9. Always
  10. Oh did I? Or did the producers of the show stick in 3 mins of the Rolling Stones to make the show more palatable for white people? I think I appreciate how tough it was for black performers in the 60s. But when it comes to showing a concert/performance, it should have been a show case for black artists. Col.
  11. Tuned in half way through & caught the Rolling Stones doing a cover version. I mean how tricky is it?..........filling up a show about soul music using black people! The BBC just couldn't handle it. Col.
  12. The subject was........is it perfectlly accepatable to sell a Mars bar (crafted in down town Slough) & cover it in batter & sell it to Joe Public oop north.
  13. Was that the Water Rats the place with heavy wood panelling on the walls? Bit like dancing in the Adams Family* living room? Col. *anyone know where the 's should go!
  14. 100 club, now you're talking. More reprobates & dysfunctionals per square foot than any bar this side of Mos Isley. Not so much unfriendly as scary. Fancy meeting up there in June? Col.
  15. Good evening Ian. It was a most refreshing cycle ride, but I am pleased to be back to defend the south's honour. Have noticed your comments above & will try not to sound off like a stuck record North/south music divide - regret I'm not qualified enough to comment. North/south friendliness divide - I would say there is no divide. I've done 4 week-enders in the last year, chatted to many southerners & northerners. There is no difference. Convince me otherwise. Col ps Good to read your comments Trifle, although you are of course wrong too
  16. Ian, you've written many a good post on here, but the above is a complete load of old tosh. I just don't see how you can generalise like that. Whether you go out & have a good time and meet new people depends more on your state of mind on the nite. It also helps if you are in confident mode. Geography does not come into it. Have to go out now for a couple of hours (mountain biking) will ad further later. Col.
  17. C'mon Col 2, you must know Bobby Herb, he normally duets with Aloe Vera. I've got some copies out in the shed - mint condition if you're interested. Think about it, sage investment. Col
  18. I think Paul B was referring to people mid 20s not children. Col.
  19. Have the following in my garage Tartan paint Sky hooks Skirting ladders No reasonable offer refused. Drop me a PM Free with all orders - a long weight. Col.
  20. "One to ponder on this. I don't travel up north as much as I'd like to, or as much as I used to (Age, time, family etc). But is there a difference between a typical Northern set (ie played in the North) as opposed to that played at a Southern do? Same dj's travel the length and breadth of the country to do their sets right? So it should be the same. I can't help thinking it's not though somehow." There is no difference IMO "Couple of things made me think this over a period of time. As I know some Southerner's who think that the South is cutting edge in some respects" They must be living in a bubble. The only other thing I'd like to add regarding upfront rare soul down south that hasn't been already mentioned is the Southern Soul Club. Steve C & Molly work really hard putting on soul nites in the Portsmouth area. Col.
  21. Quality post Dan. Personally I'm bored stiff with all the off topic footy stuff. I think Dan's post is now the un-official bench mark. If you want to go off topic & talk about football my request is that you DONT, unless its going to be really witty. Col. ps I don't like cricket either.
  22. Great post Dave, will add to it later.... Dave G, Steve G - separated at birth, soon to re-united.....? Col
  23. You should get out more often Col
  24. Cheers for reply JC, will add a bit more next week. Just found pic of prime suspect from Reading all-dayer fracas in gallery section on s/s Col
  25. Thanks for replies. Just 1 more question... As the Major Lance - You Don't Want Me No More is a 70s re-issue, whats it worth? Thanks again. Col Valuation for my interest only - I'm not selling.
