  1. No worries. I think I was just having a sensitive 5 minutes. That's when I need to see everything through rose tinted blinkers. Col.
  2. Thats amazeing, you,d never guess what I do for a liveing Col
  3. I would refer the honourable member for Rushden, Northants to the statement made earlier in the debate -"Its only supposed to be a bit of fun" The poll was a retrospective and fond look at some records that most of us enjoyed at the time. It wasn't meant to be an opportunity for the self-righteous to hijack it with high minded and overly negative comments. Col.
  4. Billy Butler - My Heart Is Hurting Had it since the early 80s when Manship was knocking out Okeh as cheap as chips. Hardy ever played around here. Phylis Hyman - Baby I'm Gonna Love You Never heard it played anywhere. True diva & what a soulful voice. Feel free to add... Col.
  5. Changes every other day. A couple of local DJs play Home Is Where The Heart Is for me, without me requesting it. But, I like stuff like that. Col.

STOP PRESS........new photographic evidence confirms who really ate all those pies :secret: Col.
  7. Yeah I know they're all played out oldies. But, just for a laugh lets poll the definitive northern soul record. The record that encompassed and epitomised the time. Feel free to add your own suggestion. Its only supposed to be a bit of fun. If anybody wants to post a pre 85 poll, please crack on. I can't comment post '85 as I was on a break.... Col.
  8. Bit of history being made around this record/time. Correct me if im wrong. Sousan then went on (that year?) to launch Shalimar's career with 'Uptown Festival' Les Mc Cutcheon (Colin Bee Pressings) was Sousan's apprentice in waiting at that time. He picked up all tricks of the trade & then went on to launch Shakatak's career. The rest as they say is history...... Col.
  9. Fair few dos in central/east london these days. Don't think I've ever seen one do in West London. Some sort of soul vacuum?
  10. Cheers Col.

  13. I had never heard of Charles Walker up until last year. A few of my mates had, having seen him previously in sleepy Chiddingfold, Surrey. Approx 10 of us went to watch him in down town toxic Aldershot. Happy to confirm Sam's findings, that CW has an amazing voice & is a consumate performer. A good time was had by all in our group. Col.
  14. After Moody Woman, might I suggest "Nothing Can Help You Now"
  15. One to avoid - Yvonne Fair - "It Should Have Been Me" Col
  16. Here's a little line of thought for you. People have paid there money to listen to Northern Soul. They have also travelled a long way & parked up their motor in a slightly worrying part of town. Its Friday night and they're really up for it. You start playing Leo Price & others.....people start getting a bit narked. Then you go back to playing soul records.....but you've lost the crowd. Am I wide of the mark? Col.
  17. Are you really thinking here......or just assuming? Col.
  18. Appreciate your reply Andy. All things being equal I hope to be there in July. Col
  19. Fair comment. Just for the record I didn't go to the re-opening of the Dome. But I heard from 4 different sets of friends that it played way too much RnB. 1 DJ way playing stuff closer to doo-wop & rockabilly. They said they wouldn't go back to the Dome & suggested I wouldn't enjoy it. So I haven't bothered. As far as i'm concerned the Dome now has a reputation for playing too much RnB. If things have changed & I'm now wrong, I would love to hear about it. Sorry for being a bit on the blunt side. But I am just writing what other people think. Col. PS - I'm off to Nottingham for the week-end
  20. Fantastic nite, absolutely rammed in there, top tunes, brilliant atmosphere. Shows whats achievable. Col.
  21. Regret all the feed back I have on the Dome has been negative. The main issue being music policy - way too much RnB Col.
  22. Good post Steve A. I've been considering the issue for some time. I did originally think that it was Londoners inability to manage a trip of more than 3 steps on a red bus that was the problem. These days I think there just aren't very many soulies in London. Yes, I know there are 8 million londoners but they just aint interested in soul. I don't know if anyone else has noted but an awful lot of the people at London soul nites are from outide London. Col.
  23. The Commitments.
  24. Don't see how people can rely on Manship's auction prices. The whole system is open to abuse. Its too easy in theory for Manship to bid up the price of a record. He can't lose as he's on commission. Col
  25. News just filtering through of a 'Rare Soul Trading Post' opening up soon in Aldershot. It will be located in 'shop' premises but wont trade like your average shop. It will not be open to the general public as such. You'll need to phone first. The idea behind this is to exclude the general public - who as we all know are a pain the arse. I'm not aware of anything similar down South. I like the idea and hope it pays off for all concerned as it might lead to similar ventures elsewhere. More details when I get 'em. Col
