  1. I could only stand to watch parts of it. What I saw was was galling.
  2. Best of the bunch? Spare Ribs -
  3. I've actually found a couple of 'modern' instrumentals that actually work for me. Not too sure if there are many many out there, but this is a good start....
  4. It was the seals, it was amazing, they had all been trained to clap on the off-beat
  5. Last time I heard it played out was at Billy Smart's circus. Fits in better with the circus scene than it does the soul scene.
  6. Just playing devil's advocate here............but I can think of one tune that def got re-issued & charted almost certainly from Wigan plays- R Dean Taylor.....There's A Ghost In My House Think it was also excluded from an even higher position in the charts because it was only selling on a regional basis......that was the word on the mean streets of Egham anyway
  7. Strangely enough your positive uplifting anecdote has not cheered me up at all. I bought a record in 79/80 for £15 (which I still have) & according to Record Collector in 2008 its still worth £15. Ho Hum.
  8. Thanks very much for the e-mail Neil. I am in your debt Col.
  9. Two records that you always associate with each other & a reason. (don't think this thread will appeal to Brett ) Billy Watkins Ice Man & Susan Coleman Age Of The Wolf Both pressed up around the same time & really naff lyrics. Associate both with Yate altouigh I appreciate they were played all over. or Kiki Dee Magic Carpet Ride & Helen Shapiro - Stop.... A joint holy grail - out of my price budget as a 17 year old. Now theoretically I could acquire then, but I'm some what indifferent to them - although would still like to own them! I was never confused.
  10. Cheers for reply but def not on the ASHFORD AND SIMPSON Remix CD. Version on there was awful - a disco remix
  11. Marvin & Tammi - Remix Aint No Mountain High Enough Heard this for the first time this week- end. Terry Jones was playing it at Cleethorpes. Remix may have been by Mark Radsom Anyone know where I can get one? Thanks Col.
  12. Here is some info that I've copied & pasted from another site, which may prove helpful Reviews "A really entertaining read -essential stuff for any Northern Soul aficionado"...............Richard Searling "Very Readable".........Ady Croasdell of Kent Records Foreword by John Manship "In the last 34 years I've have had nothing but admiration for a man who is honest, witty, intelligent and sometimes even humble" ....................
  13. Apparently its out in Sweden Trailer looks fun..... Anyone seen the film?
  14. What year mon ami?
  15. Certainly were a bit special. More recently done Chi Soul - a modern type thingy in Chichester which I thought would die on its arse, but was rammed. Quality atmosphere. Then few years back a do somewhere near the south coast (to be precise - middle of nowhere) a do orgainised by Steve C, Russ, Jason & others. Again packed & a brilliant day/night. I remain confused as to why the all dayer is no longer a regular, viable format?
  16. Thanks for the invite
  17. Sad to see only 1 All Dayer on Today (BH Monday) and its more of a mod do than strictly northern. Strange that as we've aged all nighters remain reasonably strong but all dayers seem to be few & far between. When was the last truly great all dayer?
  18. They were about £50, now being offered for £200 ish.
  19. Check out https://www.rarenorthernsoul.com/Unissued/ They have an unissued stomper for sale @ £500

Quality. A piece of social history.
  21. Good Thread! Andrea True Connection or Franki Valli - 1963 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TQO9LNELIKQ
  22. Thanks for asking, truth be known overcooked it a bit. Got caught up in the politics of scene. Now coming out on an occasional basis - now going for quality over quantity. Hope to see you & et all @ Cleethorpes.
  23. Thanks for replies chaps. But is it possible to view your average 12" & work out the speed?
  24. Following on from the 'What's The Best Line In A Record?' thread which I really enjoyed, I was wondering what the most iconic lyrics on the northern scene might be? By iconic I think I mean that if you heard said lyrics used in some conversation or quote away from the scene, you would immediately connect them back to the soul scene. Appreciate Frank Wilson might come to mind, but lets give that one a rest.......
