  1. Ouch!.......I'm really losing the argument here. You'll be pleased to know that I remain unperturbed. My mission statement remains to inform, educate & entertain.......and sometimes theres very little to work with here It struck me that the Mary Wells track might not be that well known. So I'm posting it now, that will give a lot more people the opportunity of telling me how good it is.......look fwd to locking horns later. Col ps Alan - love to here Jean Carn version pps Tony are you coming to our local new years eve bash at the Duke Of York?
  2. Been playing the wrong version - for years! Just noticed how much better Patti Austions version of 'You Didn't Say A Word' is....... Also currently prefer Margie Josephs version of "Lets Stay Together" over Al Greens. And Mary Wells version of "In The Midnight Hour" is a country mile better than Wilson Picketts.
  3. Its torture! Does you box come with some sort of health warning......or do you have some special licence for it? col
  4. I wouldn't know whether thats correct or not. Sounds to me though, that the chap was making a generalisation and thats rarely a healthy thing to do. Col. Ha ha, just read Simsy comments. Think we might be joined at the hip
  5. Have an mp3 of Paramounts - Girls With The Big Black Boots Not quite the same Col
  6. Feed back is not always good Ken, but you asked for it Ist track, worst thing since "Scratchy".........Jnr Walker on LSD...........now I know what to do with these rusty nails. 2nd Track, excellent......almost has a latin feel to it. Col
  7. Here's my thoughts. If dealer has a 10 out of 10 rating, he isn't going to send out a cracked record. Take it up with the people who broke it, the post office, they must be good it. Col.
  8. Certainly does
  9. [quote name='Simsy' date='Dec 27 2005, 01:38 AM' post='223008' 6/10 try again with horns.
  10. Did you guess the artist? Or was it too obvious?
  11. This is brilliant. I love it 'cos its soulful & all over the place! Most people will remember the George Harrison version, but this just has to be the orig! Don't think its that well known, so anybody care to guess the artist? Col. Dan/Mike....appreciate it is in the wrong section, but every time I tried to upload the file it tried to add it to the Freda Payne thread that I started earlier. Even tried quitting Safari.
  12. Sounds like an out & out Wigan stomper, but I don't remember it! Anybody got any info? Cheers Col.
  13. Merry christmas everyone. Look fwd to catching up with one & all in the new year Col x
  14. Nice one. Someone should have strangled it at inception.
  15. I posted Yo Ho Ho earlier but it got accidently removed.
  16. Posted this earlier in the thread, but it got removed. Probably on the grounds of taste. Its Buddy Guy.
  17. It was a term of endearment. This is the best record that Motown never produced. I think it deservas a shot at a proper release. Personally hate to see boot leggers get hold of it.
  18. Well thanks for your opinion Pete. What a little treasure you are....... My thoughts are that if it gets posted here, it will get booted as a result of it. That will devalue the site. But having said that I'm always prepared to listen to other peoples opinions. Col
  19. As far as I'm aware this record is not in the public domain. If you have one send it directly to Baz, dont post it here. Col.
  20. Cheers Ian. More nominations Best DJ set Taffy at Monumental. Pure class. Best anecdote Heard story of top name DJ who swapped 3 records totalling 6k with a dentist for a new set of pearly gnashers. Six grands worth! No I'm not making it up. Best 7" new release Sharon Jones - How Long. Credit due I think to JT on that one. Still available I beleive off the Daptone Records web site. Col. Best cheesy oldie I've bought Archie Bell - Soul City Walk In. Absolute cheese, but brilliant. Assuming that you're not alergic to it.
  21. Yes Russ I have heard all the arguments several times over. Back in the 70s it was certainly was cutting edge. Now its an excellent social event with a very strong link to a mis-spent youth. I haven't missed one in the last 3 or 4 years and have enjoyed every single one. Col.
  22. 2005 Nominations Feel free to either add or just make up your own nominations. The more the merrier..... Best 20 quid record: Broadways - You Just Don't Know. Best overheard comment: A soul fans dancing ability varies in inverse proportion to the size of his record collection. Col
  23. Well, it wasn't the bit in the middle
  24. Its up to 560 dollars
  25. I'd say Bisley Pavillion, near Woking in Surrey. Also Yate, although I never liked it that much. Col.
