  1. Alright, you've got a couple of good points there Agree to disagree Col
  2. 'WHAT?' .............a touch hard of hearing are we? 'Why would it be so painful to play a set of instrumentals?'................the pain is that I feel deep inside, the wasted opportunity to lay a quality soul vocal over a searing 4/4 northern back beat. So, what gives with all this purastistical rubbish about Soul music deriving it's direction and 'meaning' from the lyrics?................if thats the question you'll NEVER understand the answer. Col
  3. Ref original post:- Difficult question for me. Similar sort of question would be "if you had a full set of teeth, which one's would you like to pull out?" Too painful to contemplate.
  4. Its right up there with the Newbeats. Surely nobody would actually own up to liking stuff like this. Any connection to the northern scene is surely both tenuous & embarassing.
  5. Very good Rod PMSL Would quite happily debate issue further, but appreciate maybe going a little off topic..... Col
  6. Alright there Jerry? Nice tune.....but this ones better Blows me away....... Col Mark, wouldn't recommend palying it in the car - it brings on acrobatics! 11_Deon_Jackson___You_Gotta_Love.mp3
  7. Seedy cyncism is often under rated. At the other end of the scales you have blind obedenice, dutiful & submissive behaviour. I like to think the two balance each other out. Col.
  8. "Diggers firmly distance themselves from the kind of collector who hoards rare vinyl. "It can become pretty much stocks and shares, and that element annoys me," says Goddard. "It annoys me that things I know are good are stashed away like little eggs waiting to hatch and not given circulation. Are you collecting music or collecting money?" Guardian?........More like the FT or Farmers Weekly
  9. I think its actually turned out to be quite an unhelpful tag, but you can't really blame him for that. Although I do have a long list of other things I blame him for..... Col. No, lap dancing is like modern soul dancing....more up & down
  10. Personally I'm up for murdering anyone on TV with a Blue Peter accent.
  11. Hi Roger, Looking at it from a Londoner/Southerners perspective I'd say crossover isn't at all well catered for. Other than Monumental, I'm struggling to think of other venues........? Col.
  12. Hope you're well on the road to recovery. Look fwd to seeing you out on the town soon.... Col
  13. Yep good tune. Strangely unfashionable these days.
  14. Morning Frank, Cheers for reply. Will be having another listen to them later on today. Think I might have had my "just back from the pub" head on in my last post. Col.
  15. Frank, I'm sure you're intentions are sound......and I liked 'a few' of your records. But are you aware how little soul there is in a lot of your record selections? I'm sure somebody is going to comeback & tell me to wise up as 'they're Latin' ........ & then I'm going to reply with something equally obvious like ...........'got any rare soul?' Never have I felt the 4/4 beat to be so under rated.. Col.
  16. Pretty much what I thought. Last scooterist do I went to - 3 years ago, best received record was 'Nelly The Elephant' Not a critiscm of their scene, just not my cuppa T. Col.
  17. What about Scooterist Do's Davie?.......completely different? Col
  18. Quality post I've also heard scene described as a "Youth club for the over 40s" Cue for everyboby under 40 to post up "But I'm under 40......"
  19. Based in the south in the late 70s I reckon that only 1 in 100 clubbers were into northern soul. Although I like to look back on that period as being a bit of a 'Young Soul Rebel' I'm sure that I was probably looked upon as being 'mildly eccentric' Last couple of years I've been extolling the virtues of the rare soul scene to a couple of younger work mates. One of them recently turned to me & said I've finally managed to get a handle on the northern scene........"its like the Masons with talcum powder!" Any other mildly amusing sories out there?
  20. Cheers Ken, Must be something wrong with my boredom threshold ..........................just played it again
  21. Hi there Paul, Cheers for link......sounds like a third version! Assume its a legit re-issue...
  22. Maybe, right now I'm playing a lot in the car................and loving it Even the pan pipes & the baby that gurgles right at the end (not on JM sound clip)
  23. Nicole Willis - If This Aint Love This turned up on a CD last week. Its awesome. Decided to buy a copy from JM, but his version is slower - its still really good, but not as good as the recording on CD. Regret CD image is an AIFF file too big at 32mb so can't post here (I-Tunes should compress it to an mp3 but it doesn't!) But here's the JM link https://www.raresoulman.co.uk/searchartist....IGATORS&Format= Any one know what the back ground to this tune is? Any one care to sell me the quicker version? Cheers Col.
  24. My neighbours cat was called BJ.......I think they were a bit weird.
