    Now thats funny!
  2. Is or was northern soul a culture, sub-culture or not? I work with a lad that is adamant that hip-hop is a culture. So that got me thinking. The following I lifted from another board - “I don't know if music itself can be a culture, but it's certainly a facet of culture. I can't picture some one saying "I'm reggae", but its a part of Caribbean culture. Country music is a facet of american culture.” Assuming the above para to be correct maybe then northern soul is just a facet of a culture....but which one? Col.
  3. Just played this and thought why suffer alone? Col
  4. Hi Jo Thanks for reply. My info said it charted 74, was then re-issued late 70s after it went big at Wigan. Was told it appeared in charts second time round, but then completely disappeared from charts following week. But it has to be said I was very gullible in the 70s & accepted most things I was told. Regret to say have become a little more cynical as time has progressed. Col Did you really carry 200 copies of Freddie Jackson in stock?
  5. Don't know. Think it charted late 70s, but was removed/banned from from official charts as buying pattern was geographically unrepresentative ie. didn't sell enough around London & south.
  6. Not too sure about Love Ballad, but can remember Dave Evison pumping out 'On Broadway' Strange choice for him, but packed the floor.
  7. Following on from the Candi Staton thread I was wondering what other records went big at the Casino before nationally charting. Heres a few suggestions. I'm not sure if they are correct though. Coffee by Cassanova? Ghost In My House by R Dean Taylor Supership by George Benson? Col.

  13. I don't think Frank Elson could ever be confused with Alvin Stardust
  14. I remember him originally being almost a champion of the NS scene. But he was seduced by the emerging Jazz Funk scene. From then on he wrote sometimes in a disparaging way about our beloved scene. As far as I was concerned he was batting for the opposition. But I think he did later write a column apologising for his lack of faith. Which sort of makes it ok Col.
  15. Have sent PM

  19. You've obviously never heard me moan. If I was ever employed by the Samiratans people would be jumping off buildings left, right & centre. Contrary to your beliefs, "all I want is not here" The first link I get is - The website's certificate was signed by an unknown certifying authority. You might be connecting to a website that is pretending to be "www.yousendit.com" which could put your confidential information at risk. Would you like to continue anyway? The second link downloads a file "VSRS196.rm" that my comp can't open
