The night is billed as Northern Soul - Across The Board. The DJ spins The Sounds Of Blackness - I'm Going All The Way. Is it acceptable? Are we either a 'broad minded church' or a 'narrow minded tribe'? Just a bit of fun...... Col.

I can get stickers done fairly easily. I started a thread a few months ago with suggestions for stickers/T Shirts which was quite funny, but recently went back & tried to find it with no avail. Can any one find the link? I'm going to run a few off & 'sell' them via mail order via post on the basis people donate the money to charity. Col.
  3. Thanks for posting chaps. Really apppreciate mp3s/wavs as I have a really poor memory. Listings of song titles really don't do it for me.......one step away from swapping train numbers Col...
  4. [quote name='STATESIDE' date='Jul 7 2006, 10: I suppose what I am saying is that we are paranoid - and yes they are out to get us
  5. Thats my experience.
  6. It was meant to be tongue in cheek. Thats why they used scooterists, not soulies.
  7. The ring leader Pete Kelross is a mate of mine. But it caused me to re-evaluate everything the day he told me that he got paid for dancing! It was strange experience, similar to the day when due to BSE McDonalds announced they were no longer selling hamburgers.
  8. Would you like your very own limited edition Soul Patrol patch?
  9. Lost Souls SC Bisley Boys!
  10. Not come across this until recently. With such a big catalogue, there must be loads more out there that don't get their fair airing Suggestions pls Under-played, under-rated Motown kim_weston.mp3
  11. Karen, I have to disagree. Its a very silly question. Thats a better question!
  12. Some old mates of mine from Egham went to an all-niter that wasn't on. Slept the night in a public toilet.......or so they say
  13. To be fair it was a well written piece, although a little too pretentious for moi. Yes tribal was the contentious word here. If you are going to use words like that why stop there? Why not try & include herd? Herd - A large number of people; a crowd: a herd of stranded passengers. The multitude of common people regarded as a mass: "It is the luxurious and dissipated who set the fashions which the herd so diligently follow" (Henry David Thoreau).
  14. With your love of the dictionary I'm sure that you could also put up a good reasoned argument for us being part of a herd.
  15. Well if I was marking the paper I'd Fail it. On the sole basis that nobody likes a smart arse. I didn't read it all, frankly the following line was enough for me:- "It is easy to draw similarities between tribal artefacts and the 'tribal' element in a dance culture (all dance cultures are tribal)" I've enjoyed the scene for 25 years. Its not tribal. Its full of nice people who are pleasure to spend the night with. Convince me otherwise. Discuss. Col.
  16. Dave, did you go when it was open? Or did you just go for the parking? Col
  17. Yep. At the risk of being boring I'm adding my name to the list of people who were there. The 5th Anniv. atmosphere was like a cup final. Having said that there were good & bad nights - but the good ones are the stuff of legends......
  18. Frank Dell actually cleared the floor at a fairly recent oldies night. I was gutted for the DJ. And also gutted that it doesn't get the recognition I think its due.
  19. "Paula Durante If he were mine - On the GJM label comes Paula Durante.Driving drums and horns in the opening bars set you up for a great dance beat but then Paula hits you with her dulcit tones . One of Richards biggies for the year but long forgotten now and rarely played. An original copy would set you back around £75 ,beware of those awful green bootlegs Yuk!" Clarky used to introduce this at Yate & play her other track "You're not my kind" And conversely introduce "You're not my kind" but actually play "If he were mine" What a wag! Strange that I can remember crap like this from 25 yrs ago, but can't remember the names of my next door neighbours. Would love to hear how good or bad they sound given the passing of time. Hopefully a little better than Esko Affair. Col.
  20. Disc 2. I'm With You.......is just about perfect. New uptempo rare soul.......I'm well happy. Col.
  21. "Dana Valery - Backtracking as Russ puts it,,that thunderous beat pounds out of the speakers.Going for big money now on Colombia (glad i got mine cheap) also booted on CSP and Pusseycat which I'm told is one the very first Wigan pressing" CSP - Columbia Special Pressings. Were they boots or re-issues?
  22. Esko Affair - Salt and Pepper Any one got an mp3? I had completely forgotten this. Cheers Col.

That probably owes more to a seperate rumour that has also been circulating for some time......that it is in fact a very bad record.
  24. It sucks. Big time.
